The 2016 Gibson Models are out...yet there is no mention on the Gibson website except for the forums. Hey Gibson admit you F*#Ked up with all those so called upgrades. I'm selling my 2015 SG Special and buying a new Fender American Standard Stratocaster or Telecaster.

Why did you buy a guitar that you don't like? And why do you care what Gibson thinks? You loved your SG special back in May, but now you don't?

It's clear to me that someone F*#Ked up.

Amen. I love reading comments from guys like "Those guitars suck!! They sound like Crap! They look like Crap! And they play like Crap!! I should know I bought one!!"

Makes me laugh every time.

Still loving my 2015 SG Special.

That's a nice guitar there. You did very well with that and making it your own. I'm glad that you opted to keep all the knobs. It's hard to read the letters in the photos, but it looks like you're getting 3 times as much tone from your bridge pick up than I am.

Searcy has been around guitars long enough to know that one can never have too much TONE.

True, it doesn't have the TONE stick shift like a Les Paul Recording but there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Well getting back to the OP, I think there is a valid question here. Why are the 2016's not on Gibson's website yet?

I mean to be fair about it, if I was considering buying a new Gibson right now, I'd want to know the differences between the 2015s and 2016s...

Gibson's PR team has never been ahead of the curve. They blow the opportunity to announce new models every year.

In Your word's:

So I did it, Got my hands on a new 2015 SG Special in Translucent Ebony. Fit and finish on this guitar is perfect. The fret work is flawless. The best finished fret board and frets I've seen on a new guitar for around $1000 in a long time. So here's the run down on the pros and cons.
PROS:
Fit and Finish, '61 Zebra P/U's, Excelent fret work, zero fret nut, satin finished hardware.
CONS:
Creme colored P/U rings and togle washer, cheap top hat knobs, cheap pebble finished black plastic control cover, G-Force tuner, plastic case (just not proper for Gibson, Fender maybe).
So what did I do almost imediately? Swapped out the creme colored plastic parts for black, real black and silver top hats and white togle switch knob. Right away the guitar looked more elegant. I kept an open mind with the G-Force but the damn thing is too complicated and the guitar is never really perfectly in tune. It was a boar just to check the intonation. So after a few days, I swaped the G-Force out for some Gibson Deluxe Vinatge tuners. Very easy swap but you have to clean up the peghead holes and carefully drill 12 mounting hole or at least they are pilots so as not to split the headstock. Strung it up with D'ardario's 10's, reset the relief, action is as low as 3/64 and spot on intonation and the zero fret nut keeps the action super light up top and bright on open strings. The guitar is awesome now. One more thing I have to mention is the slightly wider neck. I adapted right away but it definately feels different. I suppose if you have smaller hands this might be a problem. Lastly I have a proper TKL case on the way for this beautiful guitar. All tolled the tuners, plastic parts and case all come out to about $200.00. Gibson could have left the G-force as optional and shipped it with a proper case and kept the price the same or even lower. One more thing, the Les Paul logo and hologram...well I can live with them. I guess they can be chalked up to that oddity on 2015 model year, that makes it somewhat charming...maybe.

Well, you spent a good amount of money and time into a guitar that you didn't liked from the beginning.

Why didn't you buy pre-15?

When I bought my 13 LPJ I knew from the first moment that I would change some thing's but I already liked most of the guitar.

When I first held a 15 in my hand's I had to admit that it was a really well built instrument, it was in tune so I didn't even touch the G-Force.

Awesome finish.

Neck width was strange, but I think after a few day's I wouldn't even have remembered it.

Removable pickguard and with case where nice features too.

That was a few month's after they where out.

I looked at the pricetag and asked myself do you wan't autotuning?

Do you like the neck?

Can you live with that ugly headstock?

Then I walked out of that store and never looked back.

Later after searching with patience I found a great deal on a 14 Traditional.

I knew the specs it was exactly what I was after, and it had the nicest sounding pickups I ever heard.

Ordered without seeing it and loved it.

If I had tested it for a few day's and didn't like something about it I would have sent it back.

I wish you luck with your next guitar purchase.

Most players who bought the now legendary and sought after Gibson 1959 Les Paul took the original tuners off and stuck on Grovers.

Did Gibson f**k up because they didn't put Grovers on in the 1st place? Was Henry involved in the disasterous decision to not use Grovers on the 1959 Les Paul? Did every OCD guitar player in 1960 walk around whining all day about Gibson not putting Grovers on the 1959?

There are a ton of these over in the Tech Guitar section of the forum. This guy actually even claimed that the finish on the guitar was so good that he didn;t notice all the other problems the guitar had till he got home. The neck was unplayable, the tuners didn't work, the nut was crap. He even made a "cons" list of just about every single thing on the guitar.

Hilarious.

You just have to wonder if people that are this incapable of knowing what they like are ever really happy with anything. [scared]

I don't think Henry cared much about tuner's when he was 6 yerar's old.

But I get your point.

People in the sixties had no internet, and whining in public wasn't the peoples favorite pastime.

I think they bought those guitars to play them, if there was something that worked better they changed it.

I remembered reading that thread. The guy said if he has to change tuners then it's not a good guitar which I laugh at.

I'm one of those guys that will put the Gibby Vintage Pearl button tuners on their Gibson because I think they scream Gibson. I hate the look of Grovers. If I have an issue with the Gibby Vintage Pearl Burton Tuners I ust change out the one that is bad.(sometimes they have vague adjustment areas). The ones I've had trouble with had been bent and straightened by me.

But the main thing that irked me about his critique was the signature complaint. He saw it before he bought it.

Some whine about the holograph. This is woth putting up with because Chibsons don't have the holograph. I think Gibson has every obligation to fight forgeries because the forgeries are very good. Even a fairly knowledgeable guitar picker can be scammed in the used guitar market. Forgers are a real worry when you are looking at buying a used guitar off the net.

Maybe Gibson can come up with peel off stickrs that hides the under-the-lacquer holograph.

Even paper money uses holographs now to fight forgers. If you do nothing to fight forgers you aren't protecting your customers very well.
