rct
It was on the guy's bench for weeks and he got tired of asking his manager what he was supposed to do with it so he tore open the vaccuwrap and put it on the next guitar that came by. Don't any of you people work for a living? rct

rct
The original post: "I just purchased a 2019 Gibson Memphis 335 ...my dream guitar. QC is spot on but I noticed the truss rod cover looks to be the basic version rather than the stepped 2 ply with the f hole engraving that I āve seen on these guitars. Iām wondering if itās simply an error at the factory. So I contacted Gibson to orderĀ the proper partĀ and they didnāt seem to know what I was referring to. I contacted Sweetwater. Same thing. I did a thorough search on the Internet and came up with squat. So my question is this: does anyone know what the deal is with this elusive little piece of plastic?" My answer: "They have a bin.Ā In that bin is the truss rod covers they are using today.Ā They reach in, grab one, put it on the guitar.Ā That's it." There's the answer.Ā That's how it works at guitar factories, even Gibson. Much deep speculation, part numbers, "QC sheets", etc. There is no quorum of long bearded gentleluthiers stroking their beards and deciding which guitar will get which mystical truss cover.Ā There is no guy with a monocle ensuring that all QC parameters line up, including which of the aforementioned truss covers have been assigned to this particular piece of guitar art.Ā It's a job.Ā The guy reached in the bin, grabbed a cover, put it on, probably didn't even look at it.Ā OR, like I said, that one had been on his bench for weeks with no answer from his boss so he stuck it on the next one that came by.Ā Hence my question about having jobs, because we all know how it goes. If you don't believe me, visit the factories of these guitar makers, I've been to two out of three.Ā I'm quite certain that Gibson is not very much different from the other two in that stuff happens all the time. rct Edited April 3, 2021 by rct
Sgt. Pepper
You might have to buy this to get one. https://reverb.com/p/gibson-memphis-es-les-paul?hfid=33017589&utm_campaign=US-Shop_unpaid&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google
Bobby B.
I have a 2015 Memphis 63' reissue with that f-hole truss rod cover. Gibson told me mine was a Wildwood spec guitar. I wonder if that could have anything to do with the truss rod cover.

All the Memphis models had those TRCs at the time.

Ā My 2018 Memphis-made 335 has one but I don't have a close up photo of it and I've reached my limit here. Can't post photo links from google photos for some reason.
Grog
I have an ES Les Paul guitar & Bass, they both have the āFā Hole TRC. One is a 2015 & the other a 2016. A friend bought a 2015 & it has a plain TRC. Sounds like random part supply issueā¦ā¦..

So my question is this: does anyone know what the deal is with this elusive little piece of plastic?Ā After reading your post I was seriously concerned about the the sustain limitations and tonalĀ quality of output of your guitar, based upon your description of the instrument you received. I reached out to numerous engineers I know, and they all state the same. Your guitar may lack the tonal capabilities and mean sustain potential associated with correct 2019 Gibson Memphis ES-335's equipped with the stepped two ply truss rod cover with the standard F-hole engraving traditionally included with this type of Gibson ES-335 model from the Memphis factory. Per said engineers, it is recommended that you immediately replace said deficient truss rod cover with the traditional two ply truss rod cover available from multiple vendors, engraved with specific lettering stating, "Sheepdog is King", which will ensure appropriate market value and increase sustain and tonal output exponentially. Please note: I am just kidding!
