Got some slight GAS again

Recommended Posts

No.. Not after too much curry but from looking at reverb..

Lets put it this way. If this guitar had a TOM and tailpiece I probably would have bought it by now. Not only cos I dont like the look of the wraparound but they never intonate as well as a tom I dont think.

Still very tempting though..

Very tasty Rabs!

you know, in all the years I’ve been going to gigs and all the (mainly local) bands I’ve seen or played on a bill with, I don’t think I’ve EVER seen anyone playing a Les Paul Special. [confused]…and yet they are always there in the Gibson catalogue. Maybe they are mainly a US based desire, or maybe most folks can only afford one Les Paul and go for a carved top model, or maybe they are great guitars at home/recording but not quite what you would want for live, or…something?

Nice guitar.  I don’t remember seeing any Gibsons from the factory with a mini-HB in the neck and a P90 in the bridge before.  Then I noticed it was an M2M model.  Interesting combination.  But like you,  I too have a thing about wraparound bridges.

Plenty have over the years... Donno, I think they are something that has a look but if you have never played one you dont quite realise how good they are.. A sort of basic rock machine as they call it. It does what it does really well. They were really meant as like student level guitars originally but have kind of become their own thing now. You cant get a DC Special any more without it being a custom shop.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone play a double cut live in person either. I know people did back in the day and occasionally on YouTube videos but not round here in the past 35 years [mellow] . Oh well….

I wasn’t there sadly - what I’ve tried to say (maybe not well) is that I haven’t personally ever been to a gig and seen them being played by anyone. 🙂

Nice indeed, the necks are usually satisfyingly chunky, but the price is way too high IMO.  The seller must be expecting an offer...?  I'm not into wraparounds myself, either.

Yeah, I think its cos its a custom shop so sort of a one off. But too much for a Junior for sure... They say its officially got a 60s neck but feels thicker than that.

When I bought my first guitar (a Gibson LP Faded Special w/humbuckers) back in 2003,  I was also considering  a SG Faded Special w/humbuckers and also a LP DC w/P90s (in both Cherry and TV Yellow.  Love TV Yellow).  The LP Faded Special was the only one in stock and there was no indication when any of the other models would be in stock.  So as the saying goes, the rest is history.

In a perfect world, I will eventually have a LP Special or LP Special DC w/P90s in TV Yellow in my collection someday.

I own a Gibson Les Paul Special with P90’s & TOM Bridge.. It is an outstanding Guitar that does everything well.. Among many others Glen Grey of the Eagles played one on their early Desperado period.. Later as well. He could Rock his *** off on Rock n Roll Leads on songs like “Out Of Control” & many others.. But, he really Rocks on that tune..

I also have several great Casino’s with P90’s, including a USA,  that are fantastic Guitars that do everything extremely well.. As do these LP Specials with P90’s..

Keith looks like his body got way smaller and his head got way bigger over the years. In that second pic his head seems to make up about 40% of his overall mass

For guitars with the angled wraparound this compensated tailpiece works super well

https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/mojoaxe-compensated-tailpiece-un-aged-15331?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpZWzBhC0ARIsACvjWRPoresju8m0bOWAnKddSq4SglDF5q200TbZmniyr-AdpUowMS2RVEQaAq35EALw_wcB

To be honest with the stock setup you can usually get the intonation really close but an unwound G usually causes a little hiccup. This compensated tailpiece fixes the intonation issue while looking totally stock. I have one and I’d give it like a 9/10. Everything about it is perfect but it’s expensive.

This guitar sure is GAS inducing. I love it!

Yeah its more expensive than either of my 336s. Which is just bonkers and my M2M 336 with p90s was £2600..  What a frikken bargain. Its why I had to buy it even though I already had the humbucker one.

And yeah I know about the compensated bridges. But also I dont like the look of them so much, it always seems like something is missing at the back. I guess I could mod it myself which I did with a LPJ many years back now and add the TOM but I think it kind of defeats the object of having a M2M guitar. It is cool thouh.

Is there a low E string on Keef’s LP Special?  I thought that wasn’t allowed.
