If that sticky said, "All Right, I've banned users for breaking the rules." there would be less testing. You need more than a Scary Name to be a Moderator, you need a finger on the Boot Button. Shadow is a fair individual from what I have seen. And yes there are those that will push back. But until someone violates a forum rule there is no need to be scary or threaten by intimidation. Intimidation is not the way to be a moderator. The rules are clear in their intent. There is no need to call out specific names to show that you have authority. [/quote'] I couldn't agree more, but it's an unavoidable fact that Humans of all Age and Gender will begin acting like children until you smack 'em on their little asses. The P.E. Teacher who threatens the class with laps will have a less organized class than the P.E. Teacher who make them do Push Ups as soon as they get out of line. Threatening with no names is a B.S. Scare Tactic and those that haven't been out of line deserve more than empty threats. If no one is breaking the rules, why have a threatening sticky? If several folks are breaking the rules, same question, why have a threatening sticky? Boot them all and let the message board repopulate with civil minded guitarist for a month. The mods have been very accommodating in their allowances of what has been tolerated. Now that the final straw post has been made, I have no doubt he means it. It is just a matter of time before some gets brave (or stupid) enough to cross that line and lose the right to be here. I learned many years in the Army that enough push-ups WILL do the trick, or you will wish it had. No threats, just actions. And when it happens, you won't get a post of the names. We can all go and buy guitars for 1/3 (or less) of the price, why would we go buy another overpriced Gibson. If the "mods", and I only see Shadow as the "company" mod, want to make a statement, then so be it, it's their website. Their "independent" mods are a joke (unless they want to make me one and send me a check every month). I said this when they opened up the "Lounge". The complaint was we couldn't talk about Marshall amps, and Boss pedals, and Statocasters, and Telecasters, and Vox amps...... These threads would be immediately deleted, I never thought it would turn to politics and gun control. Don't get me wrong, I have a strong opinion on all these subjects, I just don't air them on a GUITAR WEBSITE. I've been a professional "working" guitarist for almost 40 ****ing years. I bought my first Gibson guitar in 1975 (before a lot of you were born), I've owned countless others since then. I can currently can be seen playing a Gibson L-5, or a ES-345, or a Les Paul, or an L-7...and if Gibson doesn't want to go by the wayside of Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac, AIG, etc, they better loosen up. I don't really care, I bought my Les Paul brand new for $500, I bought my ES-345 for less than $2000, I bought my L-7 for $1700, and I bought my L-5CES, the king of all Gibson's, for less than $5000, and I don't see me ever having to buy another guitar. So I don't matter. I may be the first to be banned, but Gibson, you better loosen up, we're all that you've got. Yes, there are a lot of idiots on these forums, but they're your customers (or potential customers), and if you alienate your customer base, your ****ed, marketing 101. Heaven knows what Win 7 may bring, but I think it will be good for all of us, especially in music fields. Keep up the good work. I figure the youngest on the boards would be about 12, and today's 12-y-o knows a lot of stuff I didn't at that age... but there's no reason to reenforce crassness and show younger guys a bad example of bad manners. Period. There are plenty of ways to disagree without being disagreeable. I don't care much for the SG, for example, but I'll never badmouth it for those who find it appropriate for their style. So...
