Getting schooled

I think a charging rhino quoted this in a fav thread:

It made me think, the reason I love the fav games is not so everyone can fight over who is best or to make sure everyone knows MY favorite is so-and-so. I read every answer to learn about new artists. New to ME at least.

Then there is the education and gossip and fun...without chacarron, life is meaningless.

Thus I commence this thread...

I wanted to know if in the past month you discovered an artist who you were blown away by.

Its cool if you didn't discover them here. Just tell us who it is, and if you wanna leave a vid, great.

I begin with Nightwish:

I know exactly what you mean, Izzy. I love finding "new" bands. The treasure trove for me has been late 60s and early 70s psychedelic blues rock stuff. I don't usually learn about those artists in the fav threads though. Your thread here is a good idea. I started one of these threads and asked about overlooked artists from the 60s and 70s. Once I got past all the Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, etc replies there were actually quite a few excellent finds for me in there. I generated a list of about 10 "new" old bands to check out. I hope you have similar luck.

John Mclauchlin and Paco de Lucia. Arguably two of the best acoustic players in the world, in their respective genres

A perfect example of a good idea for a thread. Share the knowledge, who cares if it's "not on the list"?

Sorry, but I've not discovered much this past month. Although I do like the Finnish horn thing.

These guys live like 45 min away from me, I hear about them all the time, but it wasn't till I met them and tried out for the band that I actually gave them a listen. Should find out by the end of December if I'll be the touring guitar player for them next year. Kinda doubt it, but they are great guys.

I listened to these guys when there first album came out, but I've been rockin there last album this past week and it is way different that they used to be, so I rediscovered a band a week or so ago.
