JEPI
I see Samick "LesPauls" at the Guitar shows' date=' that sell for $299 (vs. $499-699 for Epiphone), thatlook pretty similar to Epiphones. Mind you, I wouldn't put my $ down for one, over an Epiphone, since for my $, a Les Paul is best made by Gibosn or Epiphone. By the same token, I wouldn't buy a Johnson Strat or one of the other look-alikes. [/quote'] Please excuse my ignorance. Isn't this an Epiphone? Korean made Samick? FrankS1281734010
Squier isn't Fender but is owned by Fender' date=' Epiphone is owned by Gibson.[/quote'] no one said anything about Squiers, though. Squiers aren't Mexican Fenders. just my two cents. i'll stay outta this one...
matiac
Someone, and I forget who, said the Epiphone pegheads longer than the Gibson, I've found it's (Epiphone) shorter, and a little thicker than the Gibson. Of course, it could just be the Korean variants, I dunno.

PJ
RotcanX....I agree wholeheartedly. The Elitist HS is very well balanced, and looks more vintage Epiphone to me, than the Epi LP and SG style.

TWANG
My Sheri is no copy. And I think it's a great design at the headstock. I don't mind any of them being different, I see it as a tribute to the Epimandious Stathopaulo. *spell check, please*

PJ
I like all the Epiphone HS shapes, EXCEPT the SG and Les Pauls. Probably done initially to greatly differentiate from Gibson. But, probably not necessary nowdays. My opinion? The HS in the avatar on the left.....to me, that's the vintage Epiphone shape. Should be on more models - certainly the SG and Les Paul. brad1
PJ - This is the 4th post (maybe 5) in this thread that you have stated that you do not like the headstock on the SG and LP. Give it a freakin rest already. How many times must you make the same point? Once or twice is fine, but after that, you're just annoying. And why do I make this judgemental comment? Because I happen to like the headstock. I like it MUCH better than the gibson. But do I tell you this over and over and over?! No, I wouldn't have even mentioned it if you hadn't had the feeling that once again you must tell us your feelings on that subject. We all know how you feel about it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Because I really don't think they're going to change it.

lostindesert
The man who started this topic want's to say........I like the Epiphone headstock on their own models. But if you're making a replica (sailboat, sportscar or guitar) it should look like the real deal. Les Paul's, Dot's, sg's and other GIBSON models look imho better with the original headstock. Just the way I see it, don't expect other Gibson and Epiphone lovers to think the same way. Greetings, Peter
RotcanX
Epaminondas Stathopoulo. This is one of the reasons I don't like the standard Epi headstock: ...see how they had to install the two top tuners all crooked so that the knobs wouldn't knock into the sides? BAD design. Also, FWIW, the curvature of the sides is too pronounced and esthetically displeasing; it lacks subtlety.

RotcanX
Yeah that's the weird part, makes you wonder why they didn't just do the same for the G-400 and the Les Pauls and the Dots...

pohatu771
My opinion on what should be done with headstocks: Les Paul, SG, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, etc. should have the same headstock as their Gibson counterparts. Casino, Riviera, Sheraton, and all the other Epiphone originals should have a different Epiphone headstock... just like they do now. Elitist and Masterbilt guitars should actually switch designs - Masterbilt guitars have the current Elitist headstock (which looks so much like the vintage Masterbilt), and Elitist should have the Gibson/Epiphone cross-breed. I'm sure some people would prefer the Elitist Dot, Les Paul, SG, etc. to have a Gibson headstock, but there should be some difference between the Elitist and the others.
