No sound hole, no access, just exactly how is a person supposed to install your brand new $6.00 jack, ummm maybe the old one needs to be removed first.......

Ah, I have it, I'll rub the magic lantern, and Jeannie will do it for me...

What a crock

I don't get it. It's a perfectly good guitar' date=' apart from the broken jack. His suggestion to fit a jack plate is a perfectly sensible one if you ask me. That's probably what I'd do.[/quote']

Agreed. If the jack has broken away from the body you could likely just pull it right out of the guitar and do it that way, probably take all of 10 minutes and no one would be any the wiser.

Indeed. That's exectly what I was thinking, pulling the jack out of the body. Being able to access the jack outside the body certainly makes things a lot easier when it comes to replacing. I'd probably be inclined to use a round jack plate, might look a bit better. Certainly if the jack was on top of the body as it is on a Casino etc, it would look stupid to have a jack plate, and I would be EXTREMELY pissed if it cracked.

That did not happen the way he stated, it was hit or dropped. Impossible that tripping over the cord would DENT a guitar. Cracks maybe, dents no. I would also stabilize any cracks in the wood in addition to the jack plate. But that guitar has been dropped, you never know what hides beneath the surface.

I think he means that she tripped on the cord and it was ripped sideways. I can see how that would cause the jack to go in like that, and it seems consistent with the surrounding crack. Anyway, I'm not here to argue guitar forensics. Looks like a good guitar otherwise. I sure wouldn't mind one! Preferably uncracked.

Still wouldn't cause an impact dent like that. The issue is what other damage that doesn't show in the pics is there? I just don't think he's being completely forthcoming in that story is all. I'd hate one of you guys to buy this guitar, get it home and the back fall off. ( I am not being funny, I have seen that lately from an impact, the guitar ( Newer Broadway) was dropped and the entire back popped right off. Easy money for me[biggrin] , bummer for the guy who just blew his Christmas money getting his guitar fixed.[scared]

But you gotta play right guys??

I'm a BIG FAN of these little babies:

They really do work as promised! Mine are a good year and a half old and still work like magic ...

The Ebay seller's story is a perfect demonstraition of the dangers of using straight plugs in a semi-hollow guitar ... especially ones (like my Gretsch) that have no type of jack plate installed. That plug is nothing but a big, old pry bar when any sort of pressure is applied. The jack is not gonna give, guys ... the wood, however, will!

Now that's great. That's exactly the kind of thing I need for my Casino and SG. I currently use a Fender Vintage Voltage cable, and although it's a fantastic, sturdy cable that doesn't tangle itself up like the rubber ones, the jack ends are very long. Not the part that plugs into the guitar, but the housing around it is very long, so there's a lot of leverage there, and I'm afraid that one of these days I'm going to bump it and at the very least put an ugly crack in the finish. I really don't want that.

Pretty damn expensive for a cable though. Might have tostick to being very careful I think. And I have to wonder too, isn't it generally a bad idea to have a magnet near your pickups?

I bought a jackplate to put on my Emperor II because I feared something like this. have not fitted it yet.

Starting to wonder how much extra protection from this type of accident it would give.

Or would it just make the whole bigger...:-)

Altair what a brilliant idea...........I used to work as a video journalist and for health reasons can't run round with a video camera any more....so I am selling off my video equipment. One of the items I have for sale is a radio mic the exact same as in this link:

Maybe I should keep it, and hook up to my guitar and amp and go mobile....... :-) I would never have thought of that.....

I am the guy selling that guitar and am insulted that someone could come on here and claim to know what happened!

The chord was yanked sideways, was caught in my friends girlfriends toes. My friends brother was sitting on the edge of a split couch and she walked in between the couches and yanked it. I knew something would give because when I bought this guitar at Sam Ash, they had a guitar picked up from another store and when it arrived the jack plate was REALLY torn out with wood split! This was from a drop with a long protruding cable. So I knew I would ONLY be using an angled Mogami cable on this and all my guitars. Sam Ash gave me the guitar as a loner and ordered me a new one, the one which is now up on Ebay. My only regret is deciding to "show off" this guitar on that particular night!

I am superstitious and could not just "buy" another ES 175. I believe that the action and tone or workmanship will not be the same, so I opted for the cash that my friend offered and I will buy another "Beatle" guitar as this one was the ONLY non "Beatlesque" guitar in my collection.

If you have ever bought a guitar that felt so right, you would know what I am talking about. The guitar will sell, because it is a truly fine guitar and works perfectly with the damaged plate. If not for parts, maybe a project.

So I ask, how miserable does someone's life have to be to make negative comments about something they know nothing about? That my friend comes from reading tabloids and watching "E" or some other gossip show.

thanks for listening.

MIDIMan56: exactly my point.

I only brought my own personal Mogami angled jack that I use on ALL my guitars. I should have brought my Epi angled freebie cables that they give. I just never expected my friend and his brother to LOVE the damned thing and want to play it through the night!!!

I will tell you this, my friends brother just bought and received an Epi inspired by natural casino and STILL wanted to play MY ES 175!!!

Well said, and I am glad you came on and gave your side of things. Its all too easy to jump in and make accusations or make comment without knowing fact. oh yes, i'll also point out on the sellers behalf that they have 134 positive feedback on ebay and no negative.

well said- so many people quick to jump to conclusions, which is remarkable considering the guy ripping you apart wasn't there when the incident happened. Nice guitar though.
