Yeah! Funny! Only you could have this BS at your fingertips. Just about your speed and mentality, Gaylord! The Obama educational graphics chart. You are an *** and always will be... I accept that and actually dismiss you as a functional (although slightly typical) example of society.

If you were half as bright as you think you are.....YOU could be president. Thats a compliment....I think [confused]

...snip

(I'm lost why Gibson cant buy wood, but Taylor can buy the forest.)

...snip

Perhaps because it is wood from two different countries? Gibson's ebony came from Madagascar and Taylor purchased a previously existing lumber company in Cameroon.

Further... Taylor didn't buy "the forest". He bought a company that harvests lumber in Cameroon under strict license. A 14 member board of officials in Cameroon allow certain companies to harvest ebony but they cannot by law own the land or "buy the forest". That panel gives out licenses on a yearly quota which totals 2000 tons of ebony. Taylor's company received a license for 1500 tons of that total; the rest goes to smaller companies. When Taylor asked them why his company receives a license for more ebony than other companies, he was informed by the Cameroon government that is was because of his business' practice of employing native Cameroon labour, investing in a factory in Cameroon (Taylor is outfitting a factory to do much more of the finishing work in situ) and Taylor's overall stewardship and organization of the resource.

Too bad this kind of business practice didn't happen in Madagascar and other countries where foreign companies took the resource and left only poverty behind.

That explains the 'how' not the 'why'. If we are to look at hardwood, trees and the environment GLOBALLY as has been suggested here - should not the US government ban the importation of All ebony and rosewood, regardless of what country it comes from, whether it is a stable government, whether the importer employs local labor, whether the lumber is 'finished', whether it is old wood or new wood, or raw, or whether it complied with that countries current/past simple, complex laws ... etc, etc, etc? Do we allow the importation of ivory harvested from 'new' elephants if it is hand carved in Africa by the same person who killed the elephant?!?

Taylor asked the Cameroon 'gift horse' why they let him buy so much more wood and they told him it was because of his 'business practices'!! If I were cynical, I would translate the response as 'you have elevated the concept of 'greasing the skids' to an art form'. Is Madagascar's ecosystem more 'special' than Cameroons?

I still believe that the armed raids on Gibson by the Fish and Wildlife agents, and all that followed were politically motivated. I know this will draw attacks from those who support our current administration because I used the "P" word, but Politics is the only single word explanation that makes sense to me after reading all the info presented here. . With a tip of the hat to Retrorod, this thread wouldn't be going on 4 pages if we all weren't interested in analyzing the info available - IE doing more than just reading the gobernment's PR news release and forming our own private conclusions. And, in conclusion [love], I don't think we should 'weight' or more highly value the opinions of members here based on the number of guitars they have, the number of Gibsons they have, their actual weight in pounds (or those other metric thingys), or how long my... I mean their posts are. I do, however, think we should give consideration to time served in prison.

Let me see if I have this...So now illegal wood is grounds for an "armed" raid, & grounds for shutting down a business, & sending the workers home??

My father worked for the Fish, & Wildlife department for 35 years, & was never involved in an armed raid.

Funny that when Aldelson announced his funds for supporting the Republican candidate was "infinite", he to was called of criminal. (allowing hookers to use his casinos). Difference is he has a kazillion dollars. When he demanded an apology, or he was going to sue, they apologized, knowing he has the money to back up his treats. Gibson doesn't have enough money to do this, so they settled.

Some on this forum are suffering from battered wife syndrome!

"Yes he punches me in the mouth every day of my life, but it's ok, because it's my own fault! He really punches me in the mouth because he loves me, & wants me to to be a better person" DOJ = Gestapo

Sorry but this is political, & pretending it's not is just living in denial.

You are living in a parallel universe, and your comments show a complete lack of understanding of the actions of the Gestapo and the other agents of Nazism that resulted in the murder of millions of innocents.

Go read your history before you make such ridiculous comparisons.

This is barely decipherable nonsense. I don't know that Sheldon Adelson is the best choice to illustrate your point as Adelson's company is facing federal charges for money laundering in the U.S and is reportedly under federal investigation over alleged violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. That is why he's trying to buy the election. He knows a Rmoney administration would be more inclined to let this sort of thing slide. Comparative personal wealth notwithstanding, I imagine Henry and Sheldon think alike. Money trumps ethics every time. These guys aren't interested in doing the right thing. They're interested in what they can get away with to increase profit.

Nah, why bother. Jousting about this on a guitar forum is pointless. I'm not gonna change your mind and you're sure as hell not gonna change mine with your hackneyed, paranoid argument. I have all the Gibsons I will ever need or want and pretty much couldn't care less what happens at this point. And those would defend rapacious corporations at all costs, well good luck to you and I hope one day the consequences of your choices land on you like a ton of bricks. [biggrin]
