  1. That's a thought but nope. I'm too addicted to mountains of junk. Forget sitting out in the sun, it's freezing out there. What the hell happened to Spring?
  2. After the past year full of uncertainty and dread, I think it's time to start looking ahead to better days. To celebrate, I decided to treat myself to something halfway decent (because nobody else will). While I wait, think I'll get some sun and read a cheery book about infectious diseases past, present and future.
  3. A 19 year old Bridgette Bardot might be nice along with a Porsche to schlep her around in. (Odds of that happening: zilch) A really nice house in New Mexico with a stereo system built around a set of Magnepan 20.7s would be welcome. (Odds of that happening: low but possible) I wouldn't turn my nose up if it came with an indoor pool and maybe some fishing gear would come in handy along with a dock at a marina for more cruddy little boat. (Odds of that happening: fishing gear is doable!) Other than that I can't think of too much else.
  4. If I remember correctly Dave Davies used a wine red Les Paul Custom on the Low Budget tour. Boy, did that thing sound good. I'm afraid I was 9 years old in 1968, I think Hendrix humping an amplifier would have caused my step father to have a psychotic episode.
  5. I think the first time I saw them was the Schoolboys In Disgrace tour. Ray Davies came out wearing a Bozo The Clown mask for one number where he played the Headmaster. They were a fun band, they always make me think of summer and salt water. God Bless The Kinks!
  6. They had some sort of a scuffle with a representative from the musician's union here on their first tour and were banned from performing here for a few years. Everyone was kind of vague but it sounds like there were some punches thrown and they got the boot.
  7. How'd you know? She can put her feet in her mouth and then give her a good twirl.
  8. The remastered vinyl is really good.
  9. What I'm asking is "will this guitar feel cramped compared to a 335 when you're playing up at the first fret"? I'm at home on a Firebird which is a long guitar, a 335 feels kind of short, Les Pauls and SGs feel tiny unless I hold them a bit to the left. Will this feel like a short guitar with a large body (picture a midget with a lot of junk in the trunk)?
  10. I've been looking at photos but I can't tell. It would seem to me that it would be a shorter guitar than the 335 series with the way they have the neck joint. I know why they did it, so it's not wobbling around. Does it feel like a 335 with a short neck on it? That's what I'm picturing.
  11. I would think if you took the tuners off and used something mild (brake fluid, for instance) that should do the trick. I'd blast them with contact cleaner before getting them near the guitar.
  12. For this model I think I'd go with the Epiphone for the inlays and the British Invasion connection. Face it, the Epi's more iconic.
  13. For the majority of these Zombie threads they're dug up by people who post once and vanish. Why not just put the forum back the way it used to be (Les Paul section, SG section, Firebird/Pointy stuff section, etc) instead of making up newbies to activate threads which were going on before much of the membership bailed?
  14. He's had a couple of years to think it over so what's the verdict?
  15. Sounds like you scored a Murphy Lab Prototype for no additional upcharge.
  16. I can appreciate the high cost of strings in Australia but 3 years between string changes might be pushing it. How much longer do we have to wait?
  17. 01GT eibach nailed it. The artists I admire bought their guitars because the artists they admired had them. Those original artists had them because that is what Gibson (Fender, Martin, whatever) was producing. They wanted a good guitar, they went into the store and here's what they're making, take your pick. That would make me the third generation and I became interested in them because that's what Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, the Stones, etc. had. I figured what they owned was as good as you can get and I could use a lot of help with my playing. As far a Chuck Berry or a Jeff Beck signature model, that doesn't really appeal to me. That's what works for them. It might be a wonderful guitar but I'm not them. The Blow By Blow replica Les Paul didn't appeal to me at all. Why would I want that? Where's the tune-o-matic tail piece? I guess that puts me in the feature driven group. Alvin Lee's 335 and Zappa's Roxy SG were modified enough to make them unique. I don't want their signature on it, stickers, dents or whatever. Give me the pristine guitar with those features and I'll try NOT to beat it up.
  18. That would be them. Simone (the drummer) owns one of my old motorcycles, he's totally nuts.
  19. If you still have the QC sheet maybe Gibson can track down the person who did the scribble if they're still there? It's unique enough to possiby be remembered unless it happened at the retailer level where someone made the swap.
  20. Stop that video and 2:07 and take a look at that P90. i've never seen that before.
  21. It's possible the factory had a small run done up for that model but someone involved in that batch would have to pipe up. I was so temped to order one that said T O N E last night but for $20 I'm too cheap.
  22. Wasn't there a Rhubard Red guy? Think he had a guitar named after him. Kind of like the Lucile, I bought Les Pauls because of the features and the sound, not for the person's name on them. What kid in the 70s ever heard a Les Paul album? I know I didn't. The one guitar I would like to get, but without the fake aging and stickers, is the Alvin Lee ES-335. Maybe a Zappa Roxy SG but, once again, without the fake road wear.
  23. If you ever make it to the factory they have a whole bunch of them to try out. Their Made In Mexico line is really pretty underwhelming. It's a shame as I wanted to like them but nope.
  24. I don't have any experience with the Custom Shop models and really only know Gibson electrics and Martin acoustics but I've had some time to think about this. You really do get what you pay for. I used to be on the fence and my LP Studio is really just a de-blinged Standard and my 2005 335 Satin is just a plain version of the 335 but that's not quite the case. They're doing something with the more expensive models that you can just feel as soon as you pick them up. I can't quite put my finger on it but it's either more time is spent on them, they're using higher quality materials or both. They must have a section for Recycled Plastics made out of old milk containers and ripped panty hose and then the moleculary correct Virgin Plastics at the factory. There's not a Gibson electric I don't like but the quality of the instrument does rise with the price tag. With the Martins you pick up a cheap one and then an expensive one and there's simply no comparison. One is El Kabong material and one isn't.
