  1. A buddy was in a band opening from the Chili Peppers many years ago and he give me a pair of VIP tickets. They had the treble cranked so bad we wound up standing about a football field away, it was terrible.
  2. An obvious ploy to get you to buy the whole guitar (now discontinued as well). Ask them if they have a reliced one kicking around.
  3. Got it, from Gibson's 2015 line up: Truss Rod Cover Style: Black and white bell with engraved F-Hole Part Number: 430-19802
  4. The first time I saw them was on a rather plump co-worker. I asked her if she got her legs tattooed which she took as a compliment.
  5. I'm sure there's a real step up between the Gibson USA models and the Custom shop. Just looking at them will make your jaw drop and I suspect they're worth the price of admission. My favorite electric is a used 2014 Firebird V. It didn't cost much and it just suits me but for sound quality it's a Lucille or Les Paul Standard Gold Top w/ P90s. For acoustic it's the one Sgt. Pepper is waiting for.
  6. I only own one that is north of $3000 (by a little) and that's only because I couldn't talk the seller down any. For the solid bodies you can get a TON of great guitars in the $1000 - $2200 range. Once you get into the semi-hollow and hollow bodies the prices have just been going up up and away and it doesn't look like that's going to change. I can understand it as more work goes into building them. I really can't speak much for acoustics but it looks like prices on those have gone berserk lately. Some of it is sound quality, some of it is build quality which you can just feel as soon as you pick it up, and some of it is cosmetics. And if you want to buy a pre-beat up one, that's extra.
  7. Very nice. I just watched a review on it and it "exudes sonic excellence". Let us know what you think, please.
  8. First order of business is to swap out those tuners to Steinbergers, you would have been done a long time ago. What the heck.
  9. Really cool but looks way too small to hide behind. Maybe wedge it in your belly button type thing.
  10. Those new Epiphones look really nice, don't they? Oh no ya don't!!!
  11. Yep and there's no telling how that will play out but I'm kind of glad she's gone as far away as possible before you drive into the ocean. I wouldn't mind getting a post card once or twice a year, that would thoughtful. Instead, she's threatening to return in a week or so, totally ignoring my helpful suggestion to just stay there instead of running around all over the place. No sense in letting her see this one, that would be a mistake.
  12. Just a piece of plastic? I THINK NOT! That is the coveted TONE PLATE and no, Gibson will not sell you one separately so don't even ask as they'll deny ever hearing of such a thing and will void your Warranty the second you get off the phone.
  13. Yes, D-35s are really nice, I've always admired them and no, I'm done buying guitars. Electric, acoustic, I've got enough. After 45 years of being crazy about guitars and chasing after them and wheeling and dealing and scheming I've finally reached the point where I'm done. Anything else I'll just admire. Kind of a strange feeling after I hit the Confirm Purchase button as that's it. Chin up, that HD-28V will probably show up early next week.
  14. Thank you all, I've been looking at this one for weeks. It's the same thing that stopped me dead in my tracks at that show. Yes, no, yes, no, this is really stupid ah what the hell, a truck could run me over tomorrow for all I know. I dunno, Senor Pepper, I hear that HD-28V and think this is more like it! I think that particular Martin will give you more enjoyment than anything else.
  15. We all know that ICONIC TONE is in the plastic so what did it for me was the truss rod cover. How can you possibly go wrong with something like this?
  16. Many years ago I met up with a buddy and we did the Philadelphia Guitar Show. I spent hours trudging around the place and actually bumped into my old SG Standard I had as a kid (I would know that guitar anywhere). I didn't have the $1700 the seller wanted so averted my eyes and plodded on in misery, boo hoo. The one other guitar that made me stop dead in my tracks was a figured, natural finish ES-335. It was just WOW! I didn't have the $3000 or whatever it was so just went home. This year it has just been work, buy the guitars I always wanted and try and avoid the diseased humans lurching around all over the place. There's just so many of them, I think they make them here at night in secret. I never forgot that beautiful 335 and next week is the second shot so that means life will return to semi-normal for me. I'll still be working like crazy but can also get out and about some without being so worried about some fat woman sneezing on me. I finished off the COVID Collection with a figured, natural finish 2017 ES-335. It should be here next week.
  17. A half pint of Jack Daniels down the hatch, a tube sock over your junk, some Pro Keds, a very long neck tie and a very large guitar and you're ready get up there and bang out some Chili Peppers. Just remember, those groupies can have a LOT of energy so don't forget the Viagra and Dexatrim for after the show. Heck, if we can do it you can! Back to beating on my "new" D-41. It's really quite the instrument!
  18. 5 1/4 but I'd wait until you get the guitar in your hands before you get too carried away.
  19. You left a loaded hash pipe in the compartment along with some extra picks. Good night coming up for Fun Boy here! Think I'll knock off early, this work stuff is over rated.
  20. You bet your D-41 is stuck in PA but don't you fret none, I'll get that Empty Box Special back on its way first thing tomorrow morning!
  21. Someone might have put a plastic square there to keep the strap from damaging the finish and the protective plastic damaged the finish?
  22. I saw that Trogly review and it sounded like they took a 50s neck Standard gold top, shaved a little off the neck and stuck in the minis from what I could gather. Looks nice but I've got that model covered with the light weight one with the weird output jack and the translucent plate on the back.
  23. I think you bailed right when I showed. I tried not to take it personally but there is the obvious cause and effect. Have you looked into one of those double neck 1275s for hiding the extra insulation? That and a very long neck tie are the ticket.
