  1. Murf may be coming from the same place 'average buyers' do - where they pay an 'average price' and have 'average expectations'. AND.... High Price = higher expectations. Don't bother asking 90% of the people here which species of wood their face, neck and b/s are. At least until you've asked that question over on the Martin Forum. OH, WAIT ....
  2. New Years Eve for us was more sedated than normal. I was getting over CV, and she was getting it. Didn't miss alcohol at all. Came to a whole new level of appreciation of simple things like: Cool, Clear, Water. An unclogged head that allows you to breathe. An unfogged head that allows you to play guitar. A good night's sleep that lays the groundwork for those two. I got by with zinc, C and Coricidin. Wife spent most of yesterday trying to get a prescription for highly recommended 'Plaxovid'. Offices closed, so On Line only! "DocsOnDemand", CVS Clinics, etc. would talk with you and charge you - but then tell you 'we are not allowed to prescribe that'. One first evenrequired you set up an account with a 24 hour pharmacy on the other side of town (20 miles away) first. Finally, her Primary Care Doctor got her desperate txt msg pleas and sent in a scrip. So, your priorities change, and 'party hearty' may not always be possible.
  3. "Stirring the Pot" !?? ! Considering the sourcel .... I almost fell out of my chair. Two issues: - How specific will Martin be on their wood specs? - How much would you spend for a guitar where you didn't know what type of spruce was used on the top (given there are 40 species of spruce but only 5 are used for soundboards)? Regarding the first - Clearly, their intent is to be Less Specific, and Less 'Accountable'. This announcement opens the door - making it harder for the manufacturer of a high volume of guitars to keep track, and harder for customers to know. Temptation enters - 'should we start using cheaper Lutz on the lower end guitars and not mention it?' Regarding the second - Customer Expectation when purchasing an 'expensive' guitar !! "Disposable Income/Guitar Fund" is always subjective Some here have a lot of money sitting in cases in their spare bedroom. Some like me were happy with one Gibson for 40 years. So we have to go at this based on an assumption of an 'average buyer' and an 'average budget'. But in addition to budgetary differences, some here are Cork Sniffers while some are legitimate experts on all things acoustic. So - I don't think it's possible to get us all to agree on this. I assume Martin is creating a market niche for those who purchase who are actually 'average'. They know they want 'Spruce' but aren't discriminating enough to demand "Adirondack' or 'Sitka'. So, they will eventually get a less desirable one. Not the top 5 - one of the other 35. Balsa Baby !
  4. "We here at GMC use Hide Glue to install your engine, so when you have to have someone take it out to fix it, it'll be a one hour job, instead of 3."
  5. The only take away here is obvious. Whenever you find something on the Internet, you need to research the claim from a few different angles. "There's Two Sides To Every Story." The commenter on the article from Maury's which appears to be the impetus for this Cirque de Soleil has only two comments from a reader: On his first he basically say Lutz Spruce is softer and therefore not as good as Sitka and may require stiffer bracing to get back lost tone. ON his second comment he basically says "WHOOP ! Lutz is actually better and harder and the next guitar I order from Martin will specify that!" (Another fanboy brought back from the brink.) Lutz is a naturally occurring hybrid of White Spruce and Sitka. There are a half dozen species of spruce used as tone woods. Not to mention cedar, koa, mahogany, etc. So ... it's safe to say the top 2 (or 3?) US acoustic guitar makers will do well in 2023.
  6. Nice knife !... good steel, American made. I got a 2nd Kershaw Blur by accident 5 or 6 years ago right after my first - held on to it in case I lost the first. Because the very first pocket clip knife I ever bought (25 years ago?) got lost the first day. I've found that if the clip is BIC ballpoint pen crap - the whole knife probably is.
  7. ... you're confused why you wrote " 2021" on the check - and the cashier tells you to "Just swipe your card, honey".
  8. Yep. And his and Sylvia’s combined didn’t exactly “blend” like milk and honey, but were both unique and authentic.
  9. Yep. Koa is one of the prettiest woods out there. But the RW in that fretboard isn’t ugly either. I’m guessing Bozeman makes an effort to pick out the nicer looking pieces of kindling for their Custom Shop. Anyone here know if, based on the recent significant expansion, is it actually a Place now, as opposed to Custom Shop really just meaning A Special Run ?
  10. He was a singer / songwriter we appreciated while he was here. Hi songs have been performed by countless artists across many genres. “Good ride cowboy, good ride.”
  11. Wasted Days and Wasted Nights .... some of our esteemed members were uncovering the nuances of acoustic guitars based on their age and provenance, while I was trying to figure out if beer was cheaper by the pitcher or the bottle. Glad I snagged at least one 'old' Gibson.
  12. Same here. I just come down on the side of ones made in this century because there are more of them around. I wonder what will happen to the 3 I've got. Hopefully wind up in the hands of someone who can play better - they deserve it !
  13. Gibson does not change out their models, specs, production, etc on January 1st. They might make a run of a few hundred models one way and go back to a different way in the middle of the year - with very subtle and irrelevant changes. Given your situation, I would not worry about the year of the guitar - just get one made in the right decade - the 60s. There was a trending change after that. Your husband will appreciate that you have made every effort to find his stolen one, but we all know the way of the world - once someone steals from you, that item is gone. He may prefer to see, hold and strum one that looks identical, even if it isn't the exact right 'year'.
  14. But I monitor the RH every day and use a small room humidifier when the heat is on.
  15. We tend to pay more attention to the temperatures in our homes than the humidity. Heating a home in winter sucks the humidity out of the air. And that dries out anything that holds water in the room. Leather couch, wood floor, guitars, etc. You may feel comfortable, but not the thin wood in your guitar. If a baby will comfortable with the temperature, your guitar will. That, of course, assumes no rapid changes. You said you were only concerned with temp and not humidity because it averages 50 -65. You need to be concerned with the extremes, not the averages. I leave mine out on stands. Including an SJ200. Never a problem.
  16. Sorry, I'm confused. Are you saying my comment was smart assery ?
  17. Agree - I remember a colder Christmas when we lived in Western Massachusetts - parents drove up from Connecticut that morning and left that afternoon. It was 15 below. No snow though, so people just took it in stride.
  18. Thanks for the chord transcription! I'll finally be able to do the song justice. I guess jazz musicians are like dogs - they can hear things the rest of us can't.
  19. Merry Christmas. Hope all our forum members are safe and warm and with family. Anything else is icing on the cake !
  20. Great hearing from you. We are all getting older at the same rate: "One Day At A Time." I've finally come to admit I feel the cold more. For a few winters, I was telling myself that my coats are not as warm as they use to be, wool sweater getting worn thinner. Yesterday, our youngest son swung by to pick up some gifts he'd had Amazone send here. Our 11 y/o granddaughter was in thin pajama type outfit. No jacket, etc. It was windy and 30 degrees, she was fine. Does it all the time. I try not to take it personally. Our 2 German Shepherds at least have the decency to 'act' like they're cold when I let them back in. Sorry about your loss - Sundance is fine - All Dogs Go To Heaven, according to a book I read.
