Great video of a great guy and some very cool guitars. I have no idea why he would want to be in the Eagles other than for the money. But that can be quite the motivator.

I always thought ASCAP/BMI/SESAC should be prohibited from harassing clubs that seat under 200. This is where most acts get their feet wet, get started, learn the ropes and such. Clubs larger than that can afford the fees, and usually have more polished acts. That's where the money is anyhow and the way it's distributed is questionable at best. As for videos of covers on youtube and social media.... I honestly have no idea how that is going to shake out. As a writer I can sort of see both sides. I mean, I put my songs on the internet for the purpose of getting exposure obviously. The goal IS to get as many people as possible to hear them and appreciate them and if someone wanted to cover one/some, wouldn't that actually be a good thing? I actually had a member of this Board ask permission to cover one live in a club, and gave it. There should be a way to reach a balance, however, as fractured as things seem to be these days I simply don't know if that is possible. In Doug's case, it seems an over-reach.

I think "Writers" is the word. The writer is the creator of the work. And I tend to agree. We financed our first project over 20 years ago. We wrote the songs, paid for copyrights, BMI affiliation, paid for the studio time, engineers, female backup singers for one song, graphic guy for cover work, Disc Makers, Fedex, EVERYTHING ! We toured the Midwest for well over a year and eventually made money on the deal. When cdbaby bought the Underground Music Association we were swept up in that and they (with our permission) got us in on the digital distribution very early. My youtube channel is all original music.

Dylan is alive, CHOSE to do them, and was compensated. That's cool. It's capitalism and Bob is a GREAT capitalist. He was getting $40.00 for t-shirts when I saw him last. John's voice being used for advertisements after his death and without his permission feels wrong to me.

I bought a J-15 for a backup / noodler. If I wanted to go cheaper than that I'd simply buy an Epiphone. They have proven to be very consistent. My daughters EJ200ce shocks me every time I grab it for the money.

Bingo. That was my point. Gibson MAKES affordable, giggable guitars. Right now. They're not ALL expensive.

When I was playing electrics I bought a Custom Shop ES-339. Fine guitar. Swapped it off and kept a Les Paul Studio. Fine guitar. My J-15 was cheap enough, same specs as my J-45 but with tree hugger friendly woods. Fine guitar. Gibson makes many affordable guitars that will fill any job required. If you're very poor they also make Epiphones, which are just fine. Many pro's gig with Epiphones. Capitalism will self regulate if it's left alone.

I might have, I played several guitars during that period. The J-15 had fantastic action, good volume and great tone. I was intrigued by the Walnut, I've always liked Walnut. I've owned a Walnut SG for decades.

The J-15 is SELLING.... Also, it's quirky enough to be interesting, maple neck, skunk stripe, walnut fretboard. But with J-45 specs. Heck, I bought one and it's AWESOME! Sustainable woods is the future of guitars whether we like it or not. These kids coming up have been brainwashed. Get over it. They think Socialism is a good thing too. Even though it's never worked out like that. Ever. There is a magic number, and if they sell THAT NUMBER, they will be built. If that goal isn't reached, poof....

Wow. Mine has never given me a second thought. My J-45 is a 2003 and has been all over and just has the metal clamp. My new J-15 has a little bag thing with a Velcro flap. They have both been trouble free. Best of luck.

I came within inches of buying a little Taylor cedar top before I got my J-45 (2003). I don't know their model #'s and stuff, but it was a small bodied guitar and was a hoot to play. A local store had it and I'd go back and play it often until it finally sold. That was the only cedar I've ever messed with, I think.

I have a Rosewood/Ebony J-45 and a Walnut J-15. The Walnut is such a great tone wood. My J-45 is loud and bright as far as Rosewood goes, but the J-15 is louder.

I love Walnut, and mine is even cheaper... (J-15)

I've got a sticky one, and a not sticky one. The sticky one has Gorilla (the best) duct tape on the sticky parts. They're both pretty old.
