  1. Mine are never cased, except for travel. They hang on the wall. The action and tuning will change from day to day. The 1933 Gibson mandolin will go sharp if the humidity goes up considerably, as will the guitars. My humidity is pretty stable, but it's at 71% right now. It'll go down in an hour or so due to a/c bleedoff from an adjoining room.
  2. Hey, Chris, let go of my Gibson.... Yep, it's easy.
  3. I've been mostly using the Masterbuilt 80/20's (12's) on my J-15 since buying it new. I've used Elixirs on the J-45 for many years. I'm quite impressed with these strings and will probably try them on the J-45 in the near future. I wonder if they've changed, or it's simply the years? I have gotten thicker with my picks in the last few years and am using mostly Bluechip and Wegens.
  4. I have a warning point. How cool is that !
  5. I agree completely. It was John's decision at the time. Using his songs to sell potato chips, margarine or google after he's dead and without his permission just seems to "cheapen" the songs. Like they're jingles.
  6. Man, you people of leisure really have it made. Since I worked 6 days last week, Sunday was supposed to be a mow day. But it rained here early. So I waited a bit, then went down to the cabin in the woods and the mower wouldn't start. And it was really wet and muddy because it rained quite a bit in the woods. So after swapping batteries it still wouldn't start. After some choice words and more wrenching I discovered a field mouse had built a nest around the starter Bendix and jammed the works when I hit the switch. God rest his soul. When it was ready to go I came to the realization that it was simply too wet to mow down there and went home and helped the wife mow the yard here, then sorted some tools and took a shower. At 6:00 p.m. I was eating Nathans hot dogs and watching the Cubs beat the Nationals. Now I need to get ready for another work week.
  7. It's a special thing when you bond with an instrument. Be it a guitarist, or whatever. I love it when someone uses just a few choice instruments for their entire career.
  8. Holly Beach is too fancy after hurricane Rita blew it off the face of the Earth. I remember it best, the way it was...…
  9. I've never owned a Martin. I've played a few. I prefer the shorter scale, simply have been playing them most of my life and makes slides more accurate. Hence my choices of a J-45 and a J-15. I would say the Martin GPCPA4 I've had in my hands many times won't hold a candle to my J-15 and they were about the same price.
  10. Nice. Found some other stuff they've done on YouTube as well.
  11. Sounds a little ( ) like "Sweet Home Chicago". Love it BK...
  12. Very nice and relaxing. Great job.
  13. Holy Cow. I surely didn't mean to offend anyone. I don't listen to ANY Pop Country unless it's by accident. At Rural King, at the Tractor store, etc. The only time I hear Chris Stapleton is when somebody has a radio on a Pop Country station. I am drawn to music that is heavy on the instrumentalist, and or independent roots type stuff. When I said I wouldn't walk across the street to see him I literally meant it. I don't know his music, don't know anything about him. My apologies if anything else was insinuated. Ben.
  14. I wouldn't walk across the street to see Chris Stapleton, but I'd walk several blocks to see Marty and Co. Nothing against Chris, just nothing exceptional to me.
  15. Marty is the bomb. He also has a large collection of stuff. And great hair...
  16. I saw Tom and Sal together in jail in New Orleans back several years ago. I don't remember why they were in jail.
  17. Hmmm. I would think not if it catches a little oil here and there.
  18. I took my J-45 to Louisiana (from Illinois) once in a car trunk without a case ! It was good weather and I knew some pickers were going to be there, there wasn't room for the case and all, and everything worked out fine. It's been camping at the cabin a bunch.
