  1. I had them in a 2019 LP Classic and thought they were very good as well. Very vintage sounding - glad you are enjoying them.
  2. I know they are out there in the marketplace, and I am not looking to buy one. I just question Gibson not mentioning them in their latest offering?
  3. I bought an expensive guitar from a shop in Arizona that had listed it on Reverb. Everything went smoothly, but that is because the shop did a good job, Reverb was just a way to advertise the guitar. I listed a guitar on Reverb once and got very few inquiries - ended up selling it locally after taking the Reverb ad down. Their fees have gone up from what I understand so the more expensive the item, the more they get which can either eat into profits or drive prices up.
  4. Got an email this afternoon from Gibson entitled "From Bozeman To You" touting how all the acoustic guitars were back in stock and available. Great. I opened it and browsed through the offerings. There were no fewer than 12 different J-45 models, none of which appeared to be a stock Standard J-45. There are ebony, cherry, rosewood, Banners, artist models, walnut, studio models, etc. etc. but no just plain mahogany with a spruce top sunburst J-45. Just seemed odd to me that the basic "workhorse" Gibson acoustic isn't offered.
  5. I have had only one experience with an Italian guitar shop, it was many years ago, but it was completely opposite what Marco is feeling. My family was on trip to Italy, my classical guitar was sitting on the back deck behind the rear seats under the glass rear window. We stopped for lunch (at least an hour ordeal) and the sun was beating down on that guitar (in a gig bag) under the glass of the rear window. We got back on the highway and rolled all the windows down (no AC in that car) to cool it down. We heard a loud bang coming from somewhere at the rear of the car. When we arrived at our hotel I pulled my guitar out and the bridge had popped completely off the body (presumably from the extreme heat and sudden cool down). My Dad could see how disappointed I was so off we went in search of a guitar shop. We found one nearby, it was about closing time, but in spite of the fact we spoke no Italian the shop owner went out of his way to make the guitar playable by fixing a tailpiece to the heel, and re-glueing the bridge back on. We probably weren't in there more than a half an hour and my guitar was playable again. I don't recall how much, but he only charged us a few Lira when he could have easily turned us away.
  6. I think the player tends to make a legendary guitar more than the wood used. We all know each guitar is different and certainly once in a while you run across a special one that sounds and feels great when you play it. But it probably won't sound the same if you hand it to your buddy to play. So for me, the moral of the story is to always keep trying guitars and if you're lucky you will find the one that really speaks to you.
  7. As usual superior guitar interpretation of a well known tune. I would've preferred almost any other vocalist than Clapton (even Andy Williams) but the guitar work was great. A shame we will not hear any more of these going forward.
  8. According to the current website descriptions the "rounded C" is the most common now. But that is the shape - the thickness as always varies depending on how it was sanded I think. They are certainly not all the same.
  9. Let me apologize first before I even get started - I am not trying to be a jerk or demean anyone. But this topic comes up all the time on this forum, "I bought a guitar and I want to change the pickups what should I get?" My question is why did you buy a guitar if you didn't like the sound of the pickups?? I think many times we buy a guitar because we want to sound like someone who plays a particular model. I want to sound like Larry Carlton so I'll buy a 335, I want to sound like Jimmy Page so I'll buy a Les Paul, I want to sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn so I'll buy a Stratocaster. But we never sound like our hero because we don't have their hands and their touch. No matter what guitar I play I pretty much just sound like me. In your case the hassle of changing out pickups and caps on an f-hole guitar is probably not worth it. If Gibson thinks the Historic '63 should have Burstbuckers that is probably what it should have and changing to Custombuckers and different caps isn't going to make a huge difference or change your touch or playing style. If you don't like the way the guitar sounds, sell it and get something you do like. On the other hand I suppose there are people that just love to tinker with their guitars, and that is their business. End of rant, I'll shut up now.
  10. That's a really good looking pair of SGs, I particularly like the black one as you don't see that many in that color. Honestly as I was coming up back in the 70s I never cared for the look of an SG. But one year when I got my tax refund I tried one out at Sam Ash and really liked the way if felt. So much lighter than a LP and the double cut away made upper fret access much easier and still got the LP tones from the hog body and neck. I gigged it for about 3 years. For the life of me, I can't recall when I got rid of it what I traded it toward. Enjoy them both!!
  11. You may have a priceless one of kind LP, glad you solved the mystery and that you like the guitar.
  12. Sorry for your loss MP, as we age unfortunately this becomes a more frequent occurrence. I lost a really close friend to a drowning accident in January and lost my sister in April so I have been thinking some of the same things you are. Have to live each day to the fullest and not put things off.
  13. As to the original comparison video she points out that they have different pickguards, and different tuners. As to the tone of the guitars I can't hear any difference because she plays them through the pickups. So we're not hearing the guitars tone, but rather the pickups tone. Glad you are happy with the one you chose.
  14. Good find MihcMac - leaves no doubt about what the guitar in question is.👍
  15. "Honey, my sister's boyfriend lost his job can he play in your band?" Well if he can grow his hair out on the back of his bald head he can play washboard - we just won't mic him up.
  16. Not too many 8 minute songs getting airplay these days.
  17. And if the guitar wasn't small enough he capo it!!
  18. I watched about 5 minutes of it - I thought Charles looked really old. My Mom's side of the family were from England and I visited there a few times. It's sort of intriguing that they still have a royal family although other than trying to spread a little goodwill to the countries of the Commonwealth, the royals don't really do much other than live an extravagant lifestyle. The expense of all the pageantry with the crazy costumes seems overboard but I suppose as the saying goes "it's good to be king".
  19. Everyone keeps referring to Cesar at the "new" guy, but he isn't really new to Gibson at all. He came in at the same time as JC, and was President while JC was CEO. Now he has moved up with JC departing so it only seems logical. I don't know the inner working of Gibson, but generally the top executives at a large company are more about balance sheets, and profit/loss statements and big picture decisions. The actual guitar stuff happens further down the pecking order, so I wouldn't worry to much about this change effecting the guitars.
  20. Looks pretty nice, but I'm not sure they will combine all those specifics. I don't recall ever seeing white plastics on anything, only the creme color. Let us know if they approve it, then you'll only have about a year to wait for it to be built from what I've heard. Good luck.
  21. There are all kinds of Humbuckers out there, but if you want to stick with a Gibson pickup I'd put in another vote for the '57 Classics. Warmer and more mellow than the 490. Good looking LP, enjoy it 👍
  22. No accounting for taste. I think this is beautiful: That little Ford econobox - not so much.
  23. Oh no, this is going to spark a lot of old guys reminiscing about the stuff they had back in the day that might be worth something if they had kept it. Not trying to rain on your parade or say you didn't have cool stuff, but we can't keep everything we ever owned and I don't blame you one bit for moving stuff on. Although down here in SC some people do keep everything they ever owned, it's rusting on their front porch or in the front lawn.
  24. I didn't say where I thought it was made. But being built in 2018 before the Memphis plant shut down I too believe it would've been built in Memphis.
