  1. Murph, Did you know that the guitar player on that song was Strawberry Alarm Clock founding member Ed King? Ed went on to join Lynyrd Skynyrd, and co-wrote many of their biggest hits, including (God help me, I'm so tired of this song) Sweet Home Alabama.
  2. Hard to argue with any of those. I would add two songs that we have enjoyed playing live as well; Green Tambourine, by The Lemon Pipers and, Crimson And Clover, by Tommy James and the Shondells πŸ™‚
  3. Vaguely resembles the Custom Shop Les Paul Ultima. But it also looks a LOT like one of the guitars that the Chinese discount site was selling for around $250, back in 2009. My instinct is that it's the latter. πŸ˜‰
  4. It's not blingy enough for me. I need more bling than that. Just sayin'. 🀨
  5. I appreciate the good blessings. And I offer all of my own blessings to all of you for a wonderful and prosperous new year. (For whatever good my blessings will do. ) I'm a lapsed-Catholic and a disgraced former Altar Boy who was tossed out of the church on his ear for getting caught drinking the sacramental wine. Anyway. Wishing all good things to you all in 2024. πŸ˜—
  6. I play some banjo, but only for specific performance and recording projects. Never owned one, but I have borrowed more than a few of them for this or that. A good friend of mine took up banjo lessons a few years ago, and then he got good at it and bought an old Gibson banjo that feels and sounds just great. Adam Mouser is his name, and he would join us upon occasion. We would have him play with us on Dueling Banjos, of course. And also Man Of Constant Sorrows, some Eagles, and a few others. One by The Darlings (from The Andy Griffith Show), Salty Dog. This is Adam. He's one of the good ones.
  7. Oh man, such a gorgeous instrument! Congrats, and we're happy to hear the satisfactory outcome. πŸ˜ƒ
  8. A gorgeous treatment. Brilliant, truly. Thank you for sharing this! πŸ˜—
  9. I keep hoping that Elderly Instruments sends you a photo of Earl Scruggs playing that very banjo while visiting their shop. That would sweeten the deal a bit. 😬
  10. This fellow Willie offers some advice. Quite a few things that I would never have thought of.
  11. I'm nobody in this discussion, but it sounds like the banjo is a great one, and you have now formed a relationship with the builder. See what the Elderly cats have to offer, and do your best to hang onto that one-of-a-kind hand-built banjo. They are just the middle-men, but they do bear some responsibility for their marketing. I wouldn't want to make them bleed, so much as make them show you some respectful consideration. 🫠
  12. I have no experience dealing with Elderly Instruments, but: 1. The banjo sounds like a keeper and, 2. A phone call to the management at Elderly Instruments won't hurt one bit. I would call them and ask is it normal for them to sell a five year old instrument as new. They may be able to offer some elucidation that will make you feel better about the whole thing. πŸ™‚ PS My wife (back then, my girlfriend) surprised me with a nice Hawaiian-made ukulele for my birthday in 1998. A delightful and unexpected gift! Your wife is a jewel for getting you that banjo. πŸ˜ƒ
  13. I'll just leave this right here. 🀨
  14. Man oh man. That is one sharp, awesome motorcycle!! Happy Christmas, and congrats. πŸ™‚
  15. A gorgeous, brilliant job. Happy Christmas, badbluesplayer!! πŸ˜ƒ
  16. All the best to all of you this Christmas. Let's hope we are all here, alive and well, next Christmas. And that there's a naughty lass under the tree at that point. πŸ™‚
  17. I loved my 1996 Studio. It was a great feeling, great sounding guitar. Ultimately just a bit too heavy, and it found a new home back in 2012 (2013?). πŸ˜”
  18. Play that down here where I live, and Burt Reynolds will put an arrow through you. 😐
  19. Good job, Saturn!! I love it when things are neat and tidy. πŸ™‚
  20. It's definitely a computer-generated voice. Not a real human speaking there. As far as the content, or the words being spoken by the digital narrator, it's tough to say. Might be considered AI, in that it's most likely words spoken by a program, originally typed in by a human. Here's how Bert (the youTube channel there is Burt's Guitar Channel) introduces himself: "Helping bedroom guitar enthusiasts to choose guitar and gears. Providing personal experience + summarized YouTube reviews so you can have more time enjoying your guitar instead of watching YT reviews that repeats 80% of information. I might use AI voice for smooth info delivery. Hope to hear from you. Thanks!" I am thinking that Burt doesn't like the sound or timbre of his own speaking voice. πŸ˜”
  21. Congratulations on that fabulous yellow Stratocaster! And happy Christmas to you and the whole family. πŸ™‚
  22. Did you know that the "W" in 10W-40 or 5W-30 motor oil designation doesn't stand for weight? The W actually refers to β€˜Winter’. The viscosity of motor oil is subject to temperature change. A single viscosity rate (SAE 30 for instance) only represents the flow of oil when heated, but doesn't address the need to start your car on a cold winter morning. The oil will flow more slowly, which is different to when it’s heated, so this viscosity rating is important too. The number before β€˜W’ represents the viscosity at engine startup, while the number following the β€˜W’ represents the viscosity during engine operation. I'm gonna shut up now. 😐
  23. Rest in peace, good and talented man. I used to listen to KLOS any time I was visiting Bakersfield. Fell in love with Mark And Brian the first trip out there 1995, and was blessed to be able to listen to Jim Ladd the second time around, in 1997. πŸ™‚
  24. Thanks for posting. Looks like something worth looking into. πŸ™‚
