  1. It's a Happy 73rd Birthday to Robert Fripp! One of my favorite guitarists not only for his longevity in the music business but also for his unforgiving originality. As the founder of the band King Crimson he has made potent music since the late 60's. Many others have benefitted from being in his band...Greg Lake(from Emerson, Lake, and Palmer), John Wetton( from U.K. and Asia), Boz Burrell(from Bad Company), and Ian McDonald(from Foreigner)! He was also a guest on projects by Brian Eno, David Bowie, Blondie, Andy Summers, and Peter Gabriel. He also provided music for a version of the Windows operating system. He is a true innovator of guitar! He has also been the president of the Gurdjieff Society; an unusual philosophical discipline. I would say that, all in all, he is one of the most creative, intellectual, and ground breaking guitarists of the modern era. If you are not familiar with his work, you must check it out! Fair warning, however; it is not everyone's cup of tea. Rather than put up a King Crimson cut, I thought it would be of interest to give you a taste of "Frippertronics" from the TV show Midnight Special in 1979. As always, I hope you find it enjoyable! May he celebrate many more birthdays!
  2. Well, Rabs...that one's good, too! I guess it's time to make a dedicated mash-up folder in my favorites! Thanks for the post!
  3. Wow, Rabs! What a great mash-up! Great find! Into the favorites it goes...Fwoosh!
  4. Happy Birthday, Sir David! Planet Earth (both I and II) are fantastic as are the Blue Planet ones!
  5. Since it seems that ukes are not taken seriously, I present this bit of fake music... Nice job on the tune, by the way!
  6. Robert Johnson would be 108 years old today. His influence on blues and rock music is inestimable. He wrote songs like "Crossroads", "Sweet Home Chicago", and "Dust My Broom" all of which are staples of the blues and rock repertoire. He was also one of the founding members of the "27 Club"; famous musicians who perished at the age of 27. Other members include Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, and Jim Morrison. Johnson's guitar playing is often otherworldly, sometimes sounding like two players. It is very difficult to replicate or approximate his playing. He is known as the guy who sold his soul to the Devil at the crossroads in order to gain his guitar skills. Anyway, today's selection is one of my favorites...please enjoy and decide for yourself.
  7. Welcome! There are few guitars of any sort as magnificent as an ES-330! I wouldn't give mine up for any reason. Enjoy your stay, Yeatzee!
  8. **** Dale would have been 82 today but, regrettably, he just died on March 16th this year. Known as "The King of the Surf Guitar", he was a pioneer of surf music. He was famous for his reverb soaked sound on songs like "Miserlou", and "Hava Nagila". He recorded "Let's Go Trppin'" which is one of the first surf rock songs in 1961. He was also responsible for Leo Fender's creation of the first 100 watt amp! Today, I give you the song "Let's Go Trippin'" because it was the first and also because it is not as familiar to people as some of his other works. I hope you enjoy the guitar of **** Dale...may he rest in peace. edit: I can't believe that D1ck was excluded from my post! Is it just me or, has political correctness gone far too far?
  9. Man,mystic, inventor, cryptographer, defense contractor, medical investigator, artist...one of the most prolific geniuses to have ever lived! Good call, pippy!
  10. Link Wray would have been 90 years old today. He was one of the relatively few Native American musicians who have achieved fame (if not fortune). He was an innovative guitarist who is purported to be the "inventor" of the "power chord". He has influenced many guitarists among whom are some guy called Jimmy Page, Neil Young, and another guy named Pete Townshend. I give you today Link's most well known tune "Rumble"; a song which was banned because of fears that it would incite youth violence. I hope you like it!
  11. That's a very good job, ThemisSal! Keep up the good work!
  12. Happy Anniversary, saturn! Not a whole lot of folks make thirty years these days! I guess, like me, you have a very tolerant wife! :) Gruhn's and Carter's for sure as well as the Parthenon. Any place with music is probably great...Nashville Cats and all that! Have a great time!
  13. Great video, j45nick! I wish I could afford even one of those guitars! Vince seems like a very nice fellow. Thanks for posting this!
  14. Hey, capmaster! I also have been hoping you are OK. I haven't seen you posting in quite some time. Be well. Peace!

  15. Hey, dhanners623! I just came from your website and wanted to say,"Nice job!"! I like your music and voice and I like the Albert King stringing on your guitar. It gives the playing a different resonance/feel. Keep up the good work! Peace!

  16. Hey, QuestionMark. I thought I'd say "Hi!" and ask you if you are, in fact,a jazz player? I try to play jazz but, it's been a very long journey and I don't yet consider myself a "jazz player". Anyway, I hope you're well and thanks for your time and thoughtful posts! Peace!

  17. I am the proud owner of a trans blue plus top pro and I Love It! For the price, you can't go wrong with one. Also, despite protestations to the contrary, it's a better guitar than a lot of new Gibsons that I've played. I've played professionally for most of my life so I think my opinion has some validity. I would say that the only down side of this guitar is the toggle switch and the push-pull pots which have a tendency fail intermittently but, can be remedied with a spritz of De Oxit. Of course these components can also be replaced, if you so desire. Anyway, that's my take. Good Luck and Good Playing! Also, welcome to the forum!
  18. I've never had an SG but, I have found that onee can play jazz with just about any guitar. I used to Love using my Epiphone Korina V for jazz gigs! Not only did it sound great but, it had the added thrill of seeing everyone's O face as they wondered what they were about to hear!
  19. Hey, Marcus! I sent you a message about how to friend somebody...just go up on the right side of this page, click the first triangle, then click "Messenger" to see my response. Hoping all is well! Peace!

  20. Hey, Marcus! I just wanted to say that I enjoy your songs and lesson posts. Thanks!

  21. Hey, Man! just sayin' "Hi!" I hope all is well with you and yours! Peace!

  22. Hey, capmaster! Wanted to friend you and ask a question. Why do you suggest unplugging the guitar before putting it on a stand? Is there an electronic reason or, is it just precautionary? I enjoy your posts and look forward to your response. Thanks and Peace!

Hey, jdgm! I wanted to thank you for the tip off on Allan Holdsworth with Soft Machine and Jean Luc Ponty. I can't wait to get both of those albums on iTunes. Also, nice job on Stormy Monday! I like the Allman's version. Have you heard T-Bone Walker's or Bobby "Blue" Bland's? Check 'em out! Hope you're well and happy in "anywhere"! Peace!

  24. Hi,Dave! Your Chuck Berry post really got to me. I faked that song for a long time and eventually, I decided to learn it the "right" way. I was blown away by how good it was/is! And... he could play like that while clowning! Whew! Again, Good Luck and Godspeed! Peace!

  25. Hey, 'Scales! Thanks for posting the cat picture! Cats are the shizz! Hope all is well and Peace to you!
