  1. Playing in the open air anywhere in Hawaii can be very challenging, the weather changes from minute to minute, I wonder how many times his equipment got rained on before he even played. I think guitarist in his era collected much fewer axes, specially compared most players collections now. Everytime I have played outdoors here it was always under shelter, dealing with the elements was always a challenge. Jimi's raw edge was always present and expected, we didn't expect his performances to sound like the studio. This was a performance event for those who were lucky enough to be there. This was in a Pavilion on the Bay Front in Hilo during a storm with sideways rain, I was getting blown around and had to put my back to the storm, everything was wet.
  2. He can chew bubblegum and play drums at the same time..
  3. Re-introducing the Coronet, Wilshire and Crestwood..
  4. If you want all the latest Tech, get a new SUV. But if you would prefer simpler raw muscle, keep rebuilding your current SUV.. The Roller Bridge for my 339 is supposed to be delivered today, so I will at least have something to work on while I am waiting for shipping updates on my other new guitar.. New Roller Bridge installed and intonated..
  5. Typically the new G400 SG's are based on the 61 SG design which have the Slim Taper D profile neck which joined to the body at the 22nd fret. Where Gibson used several different neck joint designs over the years that use both D and C profiles. Currently the Epi Muse has a C profile and the Prophecy has a custom asymmetrical thin neck. The Wilshire, Crestwood and Coronet's that originally had very thin necks are now using C profiles, which may be an improvement for neck stability. I have had a few G400's over the years all with D profiles, but neck stability differed from year to year also depending on where the G400 was built. My new Epi ES-339 has a C profile where last years model uses a D profile. 2020 Epi LP's also come with either a D or C profile depending on the model. I think the new Qingdao produced Epiphones will factor in a new level of reliable quality.. Note: I use the profile term loosely as 60's profile usually indicates a D profile and a 50's profile usually indicates a C profile which may have some variation.
  6. Factory Order Numbers (FON) with a letter from 1935 to 1941The FON consists a batch number of usually four digits, followed by a one letter (sometimes prefixed by a space) followed by one or two digits (ranking).• 1935-1937: Letter between the batch number and the order number. e.g. 0123 A5• 1938-1941: Two or three letters before batch number. The first letter is the year. If there is a second character follows it is the code for the type of the instrument. (G = Gibson, K = Kalamazoo, W = Recording King (Montgomery Wards). If follows there is a third letter E, it stands for Electric.• Exceptions: Some high-end models and lap steels from 1939-1940 have been added the letter A, to the prefixes D, E or F. 1st Letter PRODUCTION YEAR A 1935 B 1936 C 1937 D and DA 1938 Ex (x = any letter) 1939 F and FA 1940 E (no sequel letter) 1941 G 1941 H 1942 So "B" could indicate 1936 the FON (Factory Order Number) 321 the "9" could be the Ninth one built. Maybe... I think you should contact Gibson directly...
  7. No just a fun play on words.. This is my car..
  8. The Music Zoo has several new models in-stock with the New Headstock, like Wilshire, Crestwood, Coronet and 339's.
  9. Epiphone ES-339 Semi-Hollowbody the Music zoo is the only store that I have seen that has these in-stock, with the new headstock.
  10. The asian knobs are metric a little smaller USA Gibson knobs are larger but intended for splined shaft, USA Telecaster knurled knobs use set screws and should work. Set Screw Knob search...
  11. Teenagers ankles were more at risk from regular skates, the biggest risk on a skateboard was hitting a small rock and you go flying.
  12. I built my first skateboard in the late 50's. But there were other Cali firsts as well, maybe, like taking a large tricycle, removing the forks and turning the frame upside down then putting the forks back on creating the first big wheel.
  13. I used to build my own skateboards out of an old metal skate nailed on to a piece of wood, this evolved to a custom piece of wood made in woodshop with skate rink skates screwed on. This was well before skateboards were commercially available. It may have been a California thing as it was the land of sidewalks, lots of new concrete everywhere...
  14. Dat a. Nash Metropolitan. I love playing my new 339, good weight, good balance, great sound and unbelievable sustain. 🙂
  15. The Mean 90's sound incredible on this guitar.. I have a few others with the same PU they all sound great, but slightly different, probably effected by the different type of wood.
  16. Thanks guys, I like the way it looks but I REALY LOVE the way it sounds. I'm thinking of getting some nickel finished pickup frames to surround the black Mean 90's..
  17. Congratulations for making a good selection on a good life partner, just keep enjoying each other..
  18. I set them close to level usually no closer than an 1/8" on the bridge PU. The neck PU I adjust by how loud it is with switch in center position, lowering until I hear a good usable balance from both pickups, the neck PU is usually considerably lower.
  19. Its not difficult to install pickups. The hardest part is de-soldering your old pickups then just removing them. Then soldering your new pickups cable connections.
  20. There are several manufacturers that make HB sized P90's. They will all work, I personally like the way the GFS Mean 90's sound and they are very well made..
  21. This Epiphone 339 is a limited run with the new headstock, the previous version currently being sold has the more ornate headstock, coil tapping, Epiphone Deluxe keystone tuners and is also available with P90's. This one with the new headstock has Grover tuners, 2-wire HB's, full sized CTS pot and a C profile neck. Since P90's were not available yet on this new model I'm installing HB sized Mean 90's. Also note that the full sized pots were not too difficult to get out of the F holes, they seemed to have plenty of cable length which made it a lot easier for me to work on them.. The Epiphone USA Alnico Classic PRO Humbuckers actually do sound pretty good, but since I'm a P90 enthusiast, they don't get the right sound for me.. The Mean 90's installed easily and I added a Les Trem II. I like the way it looks without a pickguard so I'm going to leave it off for a while. Also I have a roller bridge coming that I will instal in a few days.
