LarryUK Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Burny-Late-70S-Early-80S-Les-Paul-Black-Beauty-/141877108802?hash=item210888e042:g:AEsAAOSwL7VWl2U0 Has anyone got a Burny Les Paul here. I've heard such good reports of them. The one I've posted has fret nibs, correct bridge etc and a sustainer. If the name on the headstock doesn't bother you they seem to be a good buy.
sparquelito Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I have often heard of Burny guitars, but never got to hold one before. A friend in Texas has one, and he says it is rock solid, and always stays in tune. Apparently Burny is the import (more affordable) brand made under license by Fernandez guitars, and most were made in Japan or Korea. The older Burny Les Pauls are considered very desirable, apparently. :)
pippy Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I don't have one myself but a good mate has one (a Standard) and, yes, it is a very nice instrument. Very well-made; good sound; very comfortable to play. The ABR-1 copy is the wrong-way-round and I'm not sure the dent really DOES add character (as the seller claims!) but it's otherwise in nice condition for it's age. The 'board is probably some species of rosewood dyed black a la Donny. Five days to go. It'll be interesting to see what it fetches... Pip.
merciful-evans Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I've heard glowing reports about Burney also. I imagine it'll fetch a respectable price. There is a MIJ specialist dealer/enthusiast near me who is likely on it already. Its 11.25Lbs though. That's s*ding heavy!
merciful-evans Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 235 GBP with a day to go. and holding...... The one I've posted has fret nibs, correct bridge etc and a sustainer Pardon my ignorance, but what is a sustainer?
LarryUK Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 and holding...... Pardon my ignorance, but what is a sustainer? I'll let Neal Schon explain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrmK0qG5ncc
pippy Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 ...The one I've posted has fret nibs, correct bridge etc and a sustainer.... I'll let Neal Schon explain... That's actually rather a neat little device! But I didn't see one mentioned in the eBay listing. Have I missed it somehow, Larry?...................... Pip.
Pin Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 That is a nice guitar for the money. Not as heavy as my 25 / 50 which is at least 11.5lbs and really does get me in the neck but I prefer to sit anyway now given my age.
LarryUK Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 That's actually rather a neat little device! But I didn't see one mentioned in the eBay listing. Have I missed it somehow, Larry?...................... Pip. They don't all have the sustainer. But it's a cheaper way to get one and than having it fitted.

There really isn't a lot in it when you take fitting into account. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fernandes-Sustainer-Custom-Kit-FSK-401-Basic-With-Humbucker-Driver-/221920359009?hash=item33ab7bf261:g:LU4AAOSwNSxVRSKm
pippy Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Thanks for posting those links, Larry. Very interesting. I'd never even heard of the thing before. From my interpretation it seems to work as a sort-of built-in E-Bow? The guitar in the first link would be mighty tempting if I lived Stateside......£350?! Bargain at that price. Personally I don't know how much use I'd get from such a circuit but it's certainly an interesting feature If you are a user of harmonically induced feedback. Pip.
merciful-evans Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I'll let Neal Schon explain I see. Thanks How curious
JayinLA Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPnIIbj-9eE The future is now. Sustainers, Evertune, and on and on. Steve Vai's guitar tech. (one of)
rct Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 The future is now. Sustainers... If Sustainers are the future then it started about 20 years ago. Fernandes is Burny, same company, their sustainer. rct

cody78 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Burny Les Paul's were quite popular with a lot of punk guitarists if I recall correctly. I've never tried one myself, but they look pretty good for the money. Last year I tried a fantastic Les Paul Professional copy made by a company called Revelation Guitars. They are priced between £300 - £400 with or without Bigsby. They play and sound amazingly good and I've been toying with the idea of buying one for a while now.
merciful-evans Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 The MIJ specialist I mentioned before is convinced that many of these guitars are superior to most Gibsons. Its from his page that I first heard of a long tenon neck join. The Burney is held in high esteem. Right now there are 11 bids and its at £330 with 30 minutes to go... Heres another http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Burney-Super-Grade-Les-Paul-Lefty-/141881319611?hash=item2108c920bb:g:88QAAOSwGotWngyj

The RLR (their version of what I call a Les Paul Recording) looks very interesting indeed. So interesting that I am seriously thinking about one.
cody78 Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 I had a look following up on this. The RLR (their version of what I call a Les Paul Recording) looks very interesting indeed. So interesting that I am seriously thinking about one. The one I tried was the honeyburst one with the Bigsby which I found in a little guitar shop in York. It was pretty heavy as it has the slightly larger body just like the original 70's ones. I'd never heard of the company before, but I had to try it out and thought the sound and feel was amazing considering it was so reasonable. I prefer the look of the dark wine red one without the Bigsby as it's closer to the originals in terms of looks. You'll have to post some pics if you get one.
LarryUK Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 I'm bidding on a relatively unknown make of guitar on eBay at the moment. I'll keep you informed if I get it.
