I think the whole concept of it sucks, but if it must be done then at least pick someone we have some respect for and who is a regular. This Guitarstrummer person so far as I know has only been here a few times and he wrote me nasty grams on both of them.

I've said elsewhere: I feel that only Gibson staff (i.e.' date=' salaried employees of Gibson) should be accorded the job of moderating the forum.

Nice idea but fiscally irresponsible, especially when there is never a shortage of people willing to do it for free. Shadow is an Admin so, presumably, his job is mainly about software and hardware - he's an IT guy. His time and skills are much better put to use by having him work on software and hardware, not being an online babysitter. Let's say that Shadow is paid $100k/year for the IT work he does for Gibson; it'd be insane to pay anyone that amount of money to spend even 1/4 of their time ($25k/year in the example) checking message boards to make sure nobody dropped the F bomb.

Homz, Guitarstrummer is a veteran of the Gibson Acoustic Forum, and is knowledgeable about Gibson guitars. He is an advocate for Gibson acoustics, as well as an organizer and supporter of the annual Bozeman tour.

He is controversial over at Acoustic, with both supporters and detractors. There has been some history.

Not here, I have never been to the acoustic forum. Let him and his acoustics stay where he's wanted.

I figured KSG and some of the other more politically minded folks would have seen all this censorship coming. I mean, we did just vote in a Socialist into office. Logic dictates that extreme censorship would follow.

I would bet the parents that are complaining are the same ones who have kids on the forums who can't spell and act all trollish.

Welcom to the Gibson Forums, oh Great Political Correctness!

GOD! I already miss the Bush years!

So, why would you have someone who is controversial become a moderator? Doesn't seem to make sense. That's like voting in a huge spender into the presidency to stop the spending. It's insane.

Oh, wait, that just happened.

Damn!

I'm way to tired to take the bait. You know your political views are inferior so I'll just let it go (this time). I would expect a writer to lure me in a bit more deceptively. Your skills are failing you. :D

Well, the censorship does suck. I wouldn't lay that on the "Socialist." In any case I don't follow the logic of Socialist=extreme censorship.

I also miss the Bush years, if only for the comic effect.

What else was there, but comic relief? The man couldn't find his arse with both hands, a GPS device and a map.

BTW on the issue of censorship; If a few off color words are offensive to you then I feel very sorry for you. It's the content of the posts that should provoke an emotional response. I can easily say the most cruel things without ever uttering a four letter word. As for children reading the four letter words; who cares. My kids know these words, but they also know not to use them. It's a matter, in my house, of content. If for example I or others in my house on jam night use the F word I don't over react to that unless it is used in a context that my 9 year old shouldn't hear. If I was to say that diminished E minor is a mother F-er of a chord the F word has no more mean then any non swear word.

I realize some people want to hide the real world from their kids. I suggest you start here and don't let them see the evil vile posts by people like me who.... hate god, hate America, hate republicans and think Obama deserves a chance before he is condemned as the Anti-Christ.

I could go on, but I would violate my three paragraph rule.

So I am concerned here' date=' why should I or any adult have to worry about children being on this forum when the TOC makes mention to 18 or up. So that means the child lied when he confirmed the TOC so because this KID is here I have to watch my mouth. I mean not that I say anything out of line but I am a f**king Gulf War Vet and did my time as a child. Why do the admins let children cruise and post here like our 13 year old kid who did everything possible to offend everyone but let a adult say something and its a 3 day warning....[/quote']

I agree... a person might be a regular on certain part of the forum but a total nobody (read unknown to most) in other parts...

I know most of the "regular" guys areound the Les Paul section, the spain section and of course the lounge, some of the guys that visit the SG section too (some of them are active on the lounge), but I visited the acoustic and the dark fire sections the other day and didnt know any of those guys, asme goes for the custom shop section... so yes, maybe if we have (say) 5 mods, they should be "regular" members of different parts of the forum, not just from the acoustic section.

And when you think about languaje... well there's this guy in the spanish section that was banned for insulting everyone (including gibson and admins) and he is back, guess what, his first post was to insult us again... but the mods are doing nothing about him because they are worrying about kids that shouldnt be here in the first place (they are not 18) and w2hat their parents might think about "an old guy" that said he wanted to see "guitar porn".

Sorry... the idea of that post was:

1.- I agree with homz.

2.- I think it would be better to have different mod "flavors"... if a guy I have never seen in the forum comes and tells me I am banned or my posts are being deleted because HE thinks they should be, then I will not understand and will most probably get pissed at him. Now if a guy I have seen here for a while, respect and "know" (for example AXE or Rich) comes and tells me the same, I will most probably apologize and stop doing what I was doing that made them ban me/delete my posts.

That said... I think we were better without mods... and parents should worry more about why their 10 year old is on a 18 year old (and up) forum than about what 18 year olds (and up) are writing on said forum.

So you want all of us guys under the age of 18 to go away?

So you want all of us guys under the age of 18 to go away?

No man' date=' just the ones that cant handle the forum.

Example:

kid walks in, insults everyone, everyone ignores him till he gets really anoying... they respond, he deletes his posts and runs to tell his parents, who come here and see how a group of grownups are insulting their kid just for kicks.

Example 2:

kid walks in, asks about fender and cadillac, always posts out of topic... no one pays attention to him... he goes to a porn site, his parents catch him while spanking the monkey, he tells them WE lead him to that web page.

Example 3:

kid comes in, shows us the nice deal his father got: a les paul supreme (with flame inlay :D ) for just under 400... you know the rest of the story...

Those should leave. If they need to get pa and ma here because they cant handle the consequences of their behavior then they should leave. If they cant handle any of the members having an opinion different than theirs, they should leave. If they cant take a joke and end up crying everytime someone makes one then they should leave.

I will give you one more example that doesnt have anything to do with the forum, but will illustrate the situation better.

Ilegal immigrant goes out and buys a TV, takes it home, the damn thing doesnt work.

Goes to the store and the guy just says "too bad for you, no refunds"

You think he goes to the authorities and reports that guy?

NO. Because he shouldnt be there to begin with.

But if he did... what do you think the authorities should do? kick him out, back to his damn country or go after the guy selling defective TVs?

This is a weird, sick, sad world, in which birds shoot at shotguns... (that's an old saying around here to note how twisted things are).
