Thanks Jaxson. And I think Caffein is addictive too isn't it?

I tried like hell to find one, but a clip of an SNL  film satire called "Java Junkie" with Peter Ackroyd  wasn't available.  It was hilarious.

The whole thing was like a send up of the old movie "Lost Weekend" about alcoholism, but using coffee as the "junk".

We're all "java hounds" in my family.  For so long we know better than to think the crap they sell at Starbuck's is coffee.  Screw that "crappucino" nonsense.  If I want 31 flavors I'll go to Baskin-Robbins.  :rolleyes: As an amusing aside, my sister gave me a coffee mug for Christmas that reads;

"How do I take my coffee?   Seriously.  Very seriously"  [thumbup]

Cherry has a bout of vertigo right now & has taken to her bed. She was coming over to visit (its my birthday today, so that will have to keep). I'm always a bit worried when she has an attack.

It could have been worse, we returned on Friday from a 4 night break at a hotel and had a great time. It could've happened then.

She has avoided coffee ever since she was advised to by the doctor. What were not sure of is if it is because of the caffeine content or something else in the coffee.

Happy Birthday Evans!

I took a litre flask of strong java to work every day for 13 years.  I ended up with such serious heart palpitations that I was diagnosed with paroxsysmal atrial fibrillation, which is medical jargon for an irregular heartbeat which happens occasionally and unexpectedly.  It was terrifying - my heart would suddenly start jerking - I could feel it - and when I went to the doc, the look on his face was "uh-oh".  I had an echocardiogram and the heart specialist explained about the electrical impulses which make your heart beat, prescribed me some pills and told me to quit cigarettes immediately (I had cut right down over the previous decade but after this I stopped).  I got made redundant at work and they couldn't wait for me to leave - PILON (Pay In Lieu Of Notice) so I left at once instead of working for a further 3 months like everyone else who got let go.

Anyway -  it was the coffee doing it!  I stopped having coffee completely and for a fortnight I had very painful kidneys - I thought I must have permanently damaged them. But they're ok now.  One single cup of coffee per day and not the strong stuff either!  I still have the heart pills just in case but my heart is regular now nearly all the time.   A big stress could set it off though.

Hmmm? You wouldn't think coffee would do that?  I know lots of people that do love very strong coffee, To me, its like mud, nasty and I drink coffee that some think is weak and watered down.  I add milk to it. One cup a day.  I drink iced tea mostly and that's what I should stop doing and drink more water. I thought for a long time, I am drinking water, just flavored water?  But I think the caffeine in it is causing the heartburn.

I cannot stand strong coffee. I have poured a cup at a few places like waiting for my car to get a new set of tires. Lol, I tried a sip and had to pour another package of creamer in it and that still wasn't enough, After adding more yet and 5 teaspoons of sugar, It still tasted like crap so I drew it away.  People say I drink Foo-Foo Coffee. Amaretto, coffee creamer, and a half teaspoon of sugar.

Your first mistake was pouring a cup of coffee in any place providing "free" coffee, like any auto repair shop.  Seems they start a fresh pot on Monday morning and keep it on the warmer all week.  And maybe into the next.  I sometimes wondered if those places also used their coffee to soak nuts and bolts in to loosen them up and eat away any rust.  Works better than coke.  [thumbup]

I once tried to determine which has the worst coffee.  Tire shop, muffler shop or a general auto repair shop and wound up with a three way tie.

Haha, That sounds about right there Ken. Our son told me a story that his friend got his butt chewed out royal in the Navy while in boot camp.  He was in the control tower for air traffic control when the flight commander asked for a refill of coffee. His friend cleaned the cup first. I guess it had a thick build up of crud on the cup and he was Ticked.  He yelled at the kid, "It took me 30 years to get it that way and in 10 minutes you destroyed my cup."  Lol

I grew up in a navy family,  my dad got out when I was two, my two uncles served for 33 years each.

These guys could down a pot of coffee and five minutes later hit the rack and be snoring before the sheets settled!

Uncle E.J. was a cook, his last duty station was San Diego,  he ran the bakery at the base, I swear, his coffee was chewable.

Cherry can get in a awful state with vertigo. The continuous dry retching & nausea can go on for a couple of days, during which she cant eat anything.

I'm reminded of the old Red Skelton TV show when his character Freddie The Freeloader would pour (supposedly) coffee out of his old pot it came out so thick and slow.  The when the cup was full he'd take a pair of scissors to cut it off at the spout.  [laugh]  I don't know what the prop guys used for it, but it was comical.  And later, when I had chance to try the muffler shop java, I was reminded of Freddie.  [wink]

As I did state, my sister in law has occasional bouts of vertigo, but never that bad!  She just gets dizzy and light headed and has to sit down or lie down for a bit.

Reminds me of the first time I went to Disney World.   I was craving something but just couldn't put my finger on it.  Stopped in the only gas station I could find and I smelled the burning coffee - that was it.  In Disney/Florida in the middle of the summer, it's hard to find hot coffee (unlike New York where some of us drink it year round).  I got a cup of that mud and it was the best burned bitter mud I ever had.  And that's when I knew I was addicted to coffee.

I never drank coffee till I hired on at Burlington Northern, While at Union Pacific, I never drank it.

Coffee doesn't keep me awake.  When I drank it through the Railroad years, I went to bed at 9:00 mostly and 10:00 at the latest. I always got up at 4:00 in the morning to get ready for work and feed the dog and let him out, and eat breakfast. I always left the house at 5:00 to meet the car pool and deadline to leave the car pool was 5:30. We had a strict policy that if you were 5 minutes late to the car pool, then you drove on your own. Coffee was great when I got to work, I had my own pot at my station. About everyone there took a cup of coffee to the morning briefing.

Red Skelton was great, nice guy to, he lived on a ranch on Tiwilliger Lane, in Anza, Calif.  Close to my parents and my older brother, his wife raised horse's and other critters.  My brother owned the local septic pumping business and Red was a client.  (Insert wise crack here) .

Any ways,  Red had the entire family over to his place one the 4th of July one time, he also had an art gallery in Palm Springs,  in the 60s we would see him in his 52  Rolls Royce Silver Wraithe , he loved his Rolls!  Plural, he had several,  two recently came up for auction,

Skelton was a funny guy too, despite all the tragedies in his life.  My wife and I had tickets to see a live performance of him in Detroit in Oct. of  '97.  We got the tickets in July of that year, but he died on our 9th anniversary(Sept. 17, 1997)  so of course the show never came off.  I've been a fan of his since first seeing him on TV as a kid(His TV show debuted a couple of months after I was born).  And over time I caught up with most of his movies, many that are frequently shown on the TCM channel, so I'm still very much a huge fan of Red's.

I understand what you're talking about. I suffer from vertigo mostly when I have migraines. It's awful feeling. Hate it.

I recently had a  bout of Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) like Brad 1 describes.  Not fun and for anyone who has any type of vertigo see your doctor.  Some are not so benign.  I had a cataract removed from the left eye, but still have a nasty one in the right eye, so the difference in vision certainly doesn't help either.  Can't wait for the right eye to be done.

I started experiencing vertigo after taking celecoxib. I suffered from pain and celecoxib helped me. But having checked the info about it on the Canada Drugs site, it turned out that anti-inflammatory medicines can cause vertigo. I stopped taking my pills and everything was fine in several days.
