I know less than nothing about Epi's except that they make outside the US and sometimes rarely Gibson does a USA Epi run of something. What is different between the standard Riviera and the NG ones. And what is this Supernova Epi? Was it just a cash grab with Noel's name one it. I have seen the one with the Union Jack on it and it looked cool, but to me its a guitar make in China or Korea or Indo.

Unless it’s the new USA Epiphones (Casinos, Frontiers, Texans) which cost pretty much the same or more than their Gibson counter parts (ES-330, Dove, J-45), all Epiphones are made over seas in China now I believe (but I think I’ve seen some made in Indonesia).

The Epiphone Supernova came out in the late ‘90s it’s basically the shape of his Riviera but the switch was moved to the upper bass horn (like a Les Paul). They came with 3 colors (Pelham Blue, Cheesy Union Jack paint job and Red) with an ugly pickguard with a print of Noel’s supposed signature on it. Noel never played these, and it was a total cash grab for the die hard Oasis fans I suppose. They retail I believe around $700 so not expensive at all.

The Union Jack Sheration which I believe is the one you are referring to that looked cool came out a few years back (believe 2016). It came with a case and is in no way associated with Noel or Oasis. This Epiphone Sheration was a commemorative tribute to the British Invasion of music to America. It is the closest looking Sheration to Noel’s Union Jack Sheration. In fact, I think it looks better cos the blue is a Royal Blue as opposed to Noel’s light blue on he’s custom painted one by his then wife.

As for the new NG Epiphone Riviera and how it compares to his original ‘83 Matsumoku Japanese one, there’s no comparison. The new re-issues will most likely be made in China and is priced cheaper due to parts and the fretboard is made of the cheaper Indian Laurel as opposed to Rosewood. It’s like comparing the standard Casino made in China vs the couple hundred dollar cheaper worn Casino’s….

Life is to short to play cheap guitars, and I won’t buy a guitar ever made in Communist China.

Definitely won’t play a guitar from China. But will respond back to this on a device made in China. Or will wear clothes from China. Am I right? LMFAO

Just try to find clothes made in the USA. The CEO of the guitar company most like on this forum was the Levi’s CEO, and Levi’s bailed from SF ages ago.

I just bought some German trousers pants. Though they look more like Italian.

I have two Chinese guitars. Both are keepers.

also cruel irony Noel's union jack and knebworth sheraton were MIUSA John Lee Hookers. After about Be Here Now he started on Gibson and never went back. Now he's all about Martins and Nash jazzmasters of all things.

Plenty of MIUSA clothing out there, you just have to drop the mindset that a pair of jeans (i imagine you call them dungarees) should cost $50. You pay a lot for MIUSA stuff but the folks that make them have insurance and are paid alright. Im a big fan of any cone mills stuff

I wore dungarees in The Navy, my dyed blue pants made out of denim, I call jeans. Bon Jovi's are acid washed.

Noel's 2x Sheratons were from the 1993 Epiphone "Nashville USA Collection".

The JLH 64' Sheratons were not released until much later (around 2000). Believe these were made in Japan and shipped to the USA for final assembly.

Still no word on the official USD MSRP. This seller obviously kicked it up $5K USD at least. We were speculating $9799 (based off the Canadian $12,599 price) or $9999 based from what others heard….This dude let the cat out of the bag way too early! Aug 30 is the official announcement.

Is some guy trying to sell a guitar he doesn't even have yet? And price gouge the fuk out of it too?

He has the guitar. Reverb told him to take it down. Guess Gibson found out….Not sure if that’s a huge price gouge, as we don’t know what the MSRP is officially in USD..But I guess if like what we predicted, it’s roughly a $5K profit. If he can get his asking price.

Dealers are saying it’s 200 so it seems unlikely it would be 100.

Spoke to a contact yesterday. They mentioned 100. Guess we’ll find out on Aug 30..Either way don’t matter, as long as you are lucky to have put a down payment and reserved it back in July, you should be OK.

I'm not a fan.

Me either. I heard Champagne or Wonderwall the other day, and after about one min I was sick of Liam's whinny voice he uses to sing with. Still in 2022 Liam thinks he is as big a deal as he was in the heyday. Nope your not. You guys should have sat down with The Kinks and asked them how it really is having your brother in the band. Ray and Dave would have told you its not a good idea.

So now Gibson is only going to make 100, and that means just shy of a million now. Oh the investors that want to get their money back must be pissed.

I am a fan. You don't have to like it, or even agree but there is a pretty bullet-proof argument to be made that Noel Gallagher is the greatest songwriter of the last 30 or so years, and quite easily. Cobain comes in at second. The songwriting is what matters, not some pentatonic wankery.

"I consider Noel Gallagher to be the finest songwriter of his generation." - Those are the words of Sir George Martin, remember that guy? Produced Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band amongst some other albums and tracks for that little Beatles band? You know that record? With 'A Day In The Life' and a few other tunes? Lennon at his absolute peak, McCartney too. All overseen by George Martin. Given George worked in such close proximity to the two GOAT songwriters for a period of 9 years or so - at their absolute zenith -  i'd say he knows a thing or two about melody and songwriting talent. Maybe more so than most in that regard. In Sir George's assessment Noel is right up there and anyone with a functioning set of ears and an honest heart would, i would say, be inclined to agree. Hack guitarists out there are a dime a dozen, Noel's songwriting and melodicism is a one in a million talent. More like one in a billion. I'd love to hear some critics efforts at songwriting and singing. Point me to some songs i'll listen with an open heart. If anyone can do better than 'Champagne Supernova' or 'Wonderwall' then have at it and rake in the millions. Something tells me they don't, not because they won't but because they can't. Noely G. has done alright following his own intuition  as opposed to listening to the laughable 'guidance' of a few internet trolls.

Can't wait to pick up one of these Rivieras! Long overdue!

Jason Isbell has written many great songs since he got booted out of the Drive By Truckers, and is still recording to this day. Father John Misty has many more songs than Oasis I would rather listen to. Yeah I know Oasis were big, but The US didn't really care about them. And I could care less about Cobain's junky ramblings.  His angst had a time and place and it ended with him not being able to cope in the world. Let me think Dylan, Simon, Macca, and how about the other Elvis, and by that I mean Costello, they could all write a song while sleeping that is better than Noel's. And all 4 of those guys have done it in the last 30 no 50+ or so years.

It a fuking guitar he owned and then his dumb a-ss brother broke, and now Gibson is putting the guitar on a pedestal, and gonna charge you 9k for it. Have at it, I'm stepping out of the way of the rich collectors.
