Help From The Strat Guys...

Murph

Recommended Posts

My daughter inherited a Mexican Strat when her Grandmother (wife's side) died. It's missing the trem arm.

The last Strat I owned was an early 90's American and the arm threaded on.

I see several options, threads and even a push in now.

Which arm can I get for her that will work?

Take it to Guitar Center.  They'll have the right one.  It will be a trick, it is usually under the cash register counter, sometimes under the pedals, sometimes buried in the repair bench.  It's a trick because depending on which type it is the thread are different, and different in each over different year periods.  But they do have them, they have bunches that never went out with the guitars or came in with a trade and got put in that drawer, and then spare sets of black and white plastics that include the bar.  If you know the year of it you can take a whack at the internet, order one, and hope it fits the first time.

my advice would be to replace the trem block and arm, that way you can have the much better usa "push in" type arm. The threaded ones on mexi's have so much lash it's not real. You reminded me, I want one for my mexi strat. Just about to go hunting!

check the middle link, ($8.95)  that shows you some detail on the thread end.

and the 3rd link maybe worth a look too.

Avoid the first one.  that one is outrageously priced but it's probably from a mid 90s MIM strat.. so "original" if you will!! 🙂

I may have an extra one.

If I find it this evening, I'll mail it right out to you, Murph.

🙂

What a fine and nice gesture.

I ordered one earlier with some strings before seeing your post.

I'm convinced the American and Mescan threaded ones are the same. If I'm wrong I'll let everyone know.

You're a helluva guy and it's appreciated.

Haven't had a Strat for more than 20 years. The bar is about a 1/4" I think (maybe 3/16"?). I broke my original trem arm and had to use a easy out reverse tool to fish out the bit in the block. I seem to recall it looked like a fine thread (BSF or UNF?)

Does America still using imperial? Wouldn't Mexican Strats use the same tooling?
