If the U.S. Government, whoever that is, owns like, I don't know 60% of G.M.

How does Ford compete for, you know, Border Control vehicles? Military. Ect......

I'm confused how the conflict thing hasn't been mentioned.

Maybe you car guys/bankers can explain it to me........

And they are ?

If they make a profit, do I get a check? Or will it go to China?

How does that whole Business/Gov thing work?

I missed that in school........

Just sayin'......

Eye guess we'll find out one way or another.

What we'll find is how stupid it is.

There is no way this will work.

Beam me up.

There is a plan.

We were not invited. It amazes me, how we let it happen.

What happens to future investors in all companies? With the bankruptcies of GM and Chrysler the court/US gov't tore up the contracts of the secured investors...by law, these secured investors should have gotten their investments back via the sale of assets, instead they got less than 10 cents on the dollar...or nothing at all. Who will take a chance on investing in companies in the future if their contracts don't mean anything?

It's the "Conflict Thing" I'm not seeing adressed, gang......

I "KNOW" the money is gone.

Duh....

But how does Ford compete for Government contracts?

In earnest?

And so it goes.....

Never seemed to be an issue when Haliburton was getting taxpayer's money to support the war effort.

Federal, state, or local? I'd think at the Federal level nothing will change: those with connections will get the nod just like Haliburton did. At the state and local level, I doubt much will change. I still expect to see local and state police driving Crown Vics. In Chicago, I think the paddy wagons are Ford diesels and that won't change.

Nice AXE.... very nice. Actually' date=' the border patrol vehicles will now probably come straight from GM's and Ford's plants IN Mexico. HOW convenient...[/quote']

You guys are all assuming that this is going to be a disaster. It might be. But I do believe the consequences of letting GM fail would have more even more dire. It was a terrible situation to begin with. If you think the government wanted to rescue two floundering car companies for sh*ts and giggles, you're out of your mind, or that it's some vast socialism plot, I beg to differ. Obama does not want to be in the car business, I assure you.

LOL!

So the promise is, after a 'short' stint in chapter 11, the gov will turn GM back over to the private sector. It just sounded to me the way prez Obama said it like the same promise the gov made about the income tax.

Temporary my a$$

I don't know how the bid process goes but we have at least a dozen vehicles in our (federal) agency at our local office and Ford, GM, and Chrysler all have a presence. Jeep too. Oh wait, that's Chrysler, isn't it? I'm thinking back on the AMC days. My own vehicle is a little Chevy Colorado which is a neat little truck as long as I don't try to go uphill on wet grass.

Hummer is owned by GM (but practiced everywhere!). Hummer says they have found a new buyer that will invest $$ into R&D. I imagine it is a foreign investor. So there is a possibility that a foreign-owned company will be making the all terrain vehicles for the armed forces. Unless Jeep or someone else comes up with somthing better.

From what I read, the U.S. is going to own 60% of it, with the Canadian government owning another 12%, and the United Auto Workers will own 17%. I can only hope that some of the profits go back to paying off the debt used to purchase the damn company.

this is from an article that is a good read:

"Although the bureaucrats disclaim any interest in micromanaging the automaker, it isn't hard to imagine them nudging and guiding decisions in directions they would like them to go. V-8 engines? Inefficient. Leather seating? Bad for the environment. Multiple options and trim levels? Wasteful. We could all wind up driving some variation of a minivan."

Because their old business model served them so well, right? The Europeans and Japanese car companies are light years beyond GM and Chrysler. Ford is the only one that got their sh!t together and is actually forward thinking. It might take something as radical as the government owning GM to drag them into the 21st century.
