STAR CHILD
What Ace was doing back in the 70's was the ultimate blues based Rock! Ace influenced so many of today's guitar players. People may not take Ace serious because of the MAKEUP, but take a listen to the solo's on ROCK and ROL OVER. Every solo is a killer indeed!!! THe guitar work on his 78 solo album is so advanced, it's way ahead of it's time.
NeoConMan
I agree 100%, if not so enthusiastically. Part of the problem, he became notorious as a bit of a drug-addled ******. Add the makeup, and many people simply refused to take him seriously. R&RO is a great album, I can imagine what it sounded like with those Marshalls cranked in the studio. deepblue
Ace is the reason I wanted a Les Paul, but hes not the most gifted guitarist in the world. He had some cool riffs though. The booze and dope did him in big time. I also know he burned alot of bridges and stabbed people in the back. Hes suppose to be clean now. I do hope so. NeoConMan
Yeah, as a kid Ace got my attention. Once I was paying attention, Page made me listen....

NeoConMan
Ya know, the solo work in their songs was cool but it was the big, meaty riffs that got my attention. I was a Paul Stanley kid. Probably formed much of my perspective on guitars - to last a lifetime. I liked that when Ace was blazing on a solo, there was still the big guitar riff doubling the bass line. Fills the entire sonic range. When Van Halen came out, I thought their sound was so empty by comparison. Seemed to me that when Eddie did a solo, the whole damned song ended until he was done. I was hooked on "power chords" at an early age....

Californiaman
Don't you just love this. While it doesn't get my vote for one of those songs where the remake is better than the original, Ace rocks it though.
Californiaman
I had to post this because I was at this concert in 1996 at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater. The KROQ Weenie Roast!!! It was great! Kiss actually lit the stage on fire. This is my favorite Ace Frehley song. I'm glad I found it this morning. Love Shock Me. djroge1
The only thing that could make ACE cooler is his wearing of a bucket of KFC on his head. Now That would be cool.

NeoConMan
Funny thing, I kinda flirted with the idea of buying one years ago. They were just too damned pricey in my opinion - I mean, being a "novelty" guitar and such... Then they went to Indonesia with production - and the price dropped nicely..... NeoConMan
while I drive by on I-10 I'll stop by the compound (if invited) G-Man, you have a standing invite - anytime you're in the area. Just call first. Mrs. Neo (the Hostess with the Most-ess) hates drop-in company worse than I do. Feels it handicaps her ability to provide proper hospitality for her guests.... :-) And yeah, years ago I didn't know enough about the Iceman and never even plugged one in. I was gonna buy it for the hell of it - so, yeah, it was a novelty thing for me.
Rocky4
I saw Page live and he couldn't even stand let alone play.... Nothing confusing about that at all. Why all the major over dubs on the Page live material... :) You saw him once when he was a heroin addict and decided he sucks? I saw Johnny Winter after he a finished off a fifth, but I would never say he's horrible live from that one show.
NeoConMan
I can't stomach seeing a person as important to Rock and Roll like JP LipSync (or what ever its called on Guitar) and try to get away with it. Jocko' date=' you're starting to piss me off... For thirty years I've heard how bad Jimmy Page sucks live. I hate it. But one guy (that I was considering punching in the nose) qualified his statements, and I had to let it go. He was telling me basically something like this; "Look, NOBODY was a bigger JP fan than I was. I saw 'em before 'Stairway' came out. It was good. Raw, but good. I really liked the music. Then other people who went to the same show were saying they sucked. I told them they weren't real fans and they just didn't 'get it' the way a real fan would. Saw 'em again when 'Stairway' came out and they were damned good, but pretty boring in parts. Saw 'em on the very next tour, sold out show, and I loved it - but they sounded like sh!t. Big arena though...." So this guy goes on and on, explaining how he's seen Page more than half a dozen times. Saw the Firm too. He finally realized that as a fan he could put up with just about anything from Page and love it. But many people would not, and many people thought he sucked in concert. After awhile, he realized he couldn't argue with them any more. It wasn't jealousy, or "my favorite guitar player is better than your favorite guitar player..." He realized that Page was pretty damned hot sometimes, and sometimes he wasn't. This guy was also a damned good guitar player, and knew every Led Zep song there is. Had his own band forever, and knows what he's talking about. Since I've never been able to see him live, I rely on licensed material he has released. With YouTube, there's stuff Page wouldn't want out there in the public domain now for all to see. He's still my favorite guitarest, or at least he's always been in my Top 3. But I can't argue about it any more.
NeoConMan
I was so pumped when he was touring with the Black Crowes. I was gonna see that show no matter what - and they cancelled. Dammit. Yeah, like I said, the proof is on YouTube. Not just an isolated show here and there, he consistently let his fans down. I hate it, but it changes nothing in reality. In fact, session players played quite a few licks that Ace got credit for. It was all kept hush-hush.
