Your links take me to a Yahoo search page. Am I missing something?

Could be me. I've been having a lot of computer problems lately.

I had the same results on the first post as you, not sure what the deal was there.

-Sorry' date=' never played them. But have you given the good ol' GFS soapbars a look-see? You can get two of them for the price of one DiMarzio. I'm not knocking DiMarzios either because I have a set of Virtual PAFs in my Lester Classic Quilt Top.

I am reluctant going with GFS even though people are happy with them. It's that "if it's that cheap, then they must not be good" mentality.

Since DiMarzio's are humbuckers in a soapbar shape (not P90's),

there's no GFS pickup like that, anyway - apples and oranges. Maybe

you just don't like P90's.

Would it help if I picked up a couple of GFS P90s and sold them to you for twice the usual price?

Deal!!!

Actually I was thinking of something along those lines. If the GFS were to cost $65 each and I was able to get them for $35 I would have no problem with the price.

Maybe I should try to get the DiMarzio for $35 each and then I would be happy as

Ron,

I think I'm happy with the Wildkat's P90's, but I'm not pleased with the Washburn's and I don't really need another guitar with P90's. One can never have too many humbuckers.

I bought a used Casino with GFS dogear P90s in it and I must say they sound quite good. I understand the nature of your neurosis' date=' however, since I share it.

I found the DiMarzio's for $15 less per piece. $54.95.

I'm starting to feel muddy.

http://www.wdmusic.com/p90_pickup_black_high_output.html

and

http://www.wdmusic.com/p90_pickup_black_high_output_rw_rp.html

this pickup has the deadly combination of power and tone! A favorite among the WD staff. Excellent bridge position compliment to our WPU90BL

It's my taste, I know.. but 17Kohms in a P90.. seems to me that would destroy it's tone pretty thoroughly.

10K is hot.. but not so hot it will distort like mad and ruin the sensitivity.

My humbuck size KA p90s are 9K and quite hot.. but I'm in love with 'em entirely.

I don't charge as much as WD.. and you can return 'em if you don't like 'em.

If it were me, I'd be reading some reviews, and I'd be careful about who wrote the review.

You get a lot of guys who are happy just because they spent the money, at places like Harmony Central, etc.

WD staff on the other hand, is a very picky bunch. Able to get a deal on anything they sell a recomendation from those guys

has always carried weight with me.

I wouldn't be reluctant to try the GFS....those really are pretty good pickups regardless of price. Another option I like very much are NOS Lawrence mini hums much better than the dimarzio's you were looking at IMHO(owned both).....although they can be hard to find. Guitar Oasis used to have a pretty good supply of them.

Here is my issue. The P90's I have in there now are fine for notes, but as soon as I strum a chord, it's suck city.

I was thinking of the DiMarzio and a friend is giving me 4x500k audio taper pots (cts) - I have 250k in there now. I want to capture more of the humbucker sound.

Twang, since I am not familiar with all of the pick-ups it's hard to figure out what is "right". What I don't want to do is route the cavity for a larger pick-up. I've never soldered before, so that's enough challenge for now.

I'm going to kick it around for a week and then make a decision. The DiMarzio's for $55 each is inviting.

I'll see if I can locate the NOS Lawrence mini hums and take a look.

Thanks.

The evils of asking for opinions, everyone knows I'm going to have at least ten options thrown my way. Hey, I still appreciate the suggestions being given.

I'm going to do the Washburn and then move on to the Dot to bring it closer to an ES335, but first things first.

Yup actually anybody's mini hums with the Gibby style les paul deluxe mounting rings will work.......the lawrence are already built to the p-90 size without any extra hardware. From what you are describing a mini hum sounds like a good choice to me. Best of luck....the hard part is actually making a decision!

I like to go to You Tube and do a search for what I am considering. You may not always be able to find what you are looking for, but you can always get close. A couple things to remember when doing this is how good is the player, is his style compatible to yours (punk attack vs blues) and what amp/FX is he using. I've always had good luck in at least being able to get a taste for what I'm looking for.

Also, I have never been dissatisfied with GFS. I've bought guitars, p'ups and hardware from them and have thought the product was worth at least 150% what I paid.

I agree 100% about GFS pickups, and Jay is great to work with. I just emailed him about his mini-humbuckers. I am definitely gonna make a change in my '56 Gold Top, I want to put a set of minis in it. Jay said that I should check with a Gibson dealer and get a set of Gibson minis instead of his. I know there are other pickups that will work, SD, etc., but the hard part is finding pickup rings for minis, and I need to have them cream.

Well, JC...the Gibby's come with the cream rings...unless your talking about the old "Goof rings," that

were on the very first LP Deluxe versions. Otherwise, they come complete...and ready to install.

Now, as to IF the "routing" in your LP is the same as a Gibson '56...that I don't know.

I'm pretty sure I am going with the DiMarzio's, but that isn't a final decision.

I was searching for a soldering station and came across one that has some range and it won't break the bank.

Just in case any of you are in the market for one:

This one is running $8 to $20 more at other sites.

Thanks for the find. I am looking to try my first mod/upgrade on the coronet i acquired this week. need to find a good iron at a low price. this is way affordable than the $80 one i saw today at guitarfetish.com. I did go with gfs veh- vintage extra hot - brown sound humbucker in nickel for bridge and a repro vintage alnico tele neck pickup. info on the 90's coronet states a push/pull on tone for tapping, but this guitar was not set-up that way. it has 500k pots, but need to get one for tapping option since humbucker will have that option. also got a chrome pick-up bracket and will switch knobs and selector knob for chrome. As, for tuners; working nicely but will think about changing buttons for mop to help out the pick-guard. wish me luck.

oh, here is another pic of patient. got her cheap and really looking to see what chrome hardware and pick-up upgrades will do.
