Nah... if you want a Bigsby, put it on there. It's your guitar, make it what you like!

:D

I wouldn't want one just floating around. I know its probably very secure with just the strap button, but do you really want only one point holding that damn thing on?

Screw it! (thus referring to installing the bigsby [flapper] )

Frankly, I don't mind if you hire a team of masons and brick it on. If you think it needs to be bolted down, do it.

Ultimately, unless you're holding on to the guitar as an investment, it doesn't really matter. For me personally, I never intend to sell my Les Paul, so every nick, ding and scratch is just more mojo.

B-7, and holes only on the back around the strap pin is what I was considering.

Just let it lay over the top ala hollowbody and the strings will keep it straight.

There's another model similar to the B-7, but without the topside screw holes - meant for hollowbodies.

Problem is, the length (and resultant distance from the bridge) is slightly different.

Still learning before I decide what I wanna do....

I love the idea but will it still fit the case?

Dave

I have a bigs on my Gretsch and my Casino and love the vibrato. Like someone else mentioned they aren't for dive bombs so I don't have any tuning problems. The biggest pain is when changing strings but I've found that if you slide a piece of foam padding to hold the spring in place it makes it much easier.

No problems fitting it in a case as the arm just folds down over the bridge.

Yes.

Bigsby B-7 bolts to the top of the guitar, as well as the tail at the strap pin.

Overall Length is 8”/222mm

Bigsby B-3 bolts on only at the strap pin and floats freely from the hinge.

Overall Length is 3/8" less at 7.625”/194mm

Something about that just seems wrong to me.

I almost pulled the trigger on a vibramate/ b5 combo for my Tele. I just can't drill those holes on the top. If it was one screw I would do it. But I'm not sure I would leave it on forever so I can't bring myself to drill all those holes.

I agree though those vibramate plates are insanely overpriced. Just a little price of metal for $100.

Yeah, that's what has held me up too.

The price compared the the halfassed look of the installation.

To me it's all or nothing, and I just can't drill those holes in the top on anything I currently own.

I've said for years that adding a Bigsby KILLS the resale value of a guitar.

Which consequently reduces the price enough I can live with the holes somebody else drilled...

I have seen B5 and vibramate combos for anywhere from 100 to 150 on eBay. I love Bigsbys on a Tele... super GAS inducing

You tighten the strap button screw only like 3/4 way so there's wiggle room while you string it up. Once the strings align everything nicely, you finish tightening the screw. String tension makes it straight but the screw keeps it straight.

Neo...

Actually Epis are quite nice - especially if for one reason or another, you can't afford a Gibson.

For what it's worth, I'd far prefer almost any Epi to a "F" guitar for several reasons regardless of price tag - but 99 percent is the neck.

I look back through my own life and I'd had lots of nice guitars. Frankly the Epi Dot I got this summer is more playable than how I remember that orange Gretsch in the 70s, for example.

So... Yeah, they're not Gibsons, but personally, comparing them to anything else around? They're nice guitars.

Nobody - especially me - will not argue that it'd be far better if everybody could afford a Gibson. OTOH, there are more than a few Americans making a living from Epis too.

As for Bigsbys... Never cared for 'em and locked out the one on the Gretsch and a couple other guitars I had in my younger days regardless of style I was playing.

Oh, absolutely.

You know them and recognize them for exactly what they are, so your attachment is completely reasonable. [thumbup]

For the money?

Yep.

Compared to many other Chinese imports?

Certainly.

The "Elite" series they did with American pickups?

You betcha.

Nobody?

Eh, I gotta disagree with you there.

Those threads pop up all the time - Epi is ten times better for a third of the price, etc....

Those threads are the ones that Duane erases all my contributions from - or suspends me outright.

[flapper]

And any mention of my boycott efforts against China, or the reasons why, are taboo.
