Bowdiddley
Me and a buddy were just talking about who would be considered the most influential guitarist, direct or indirect. My guess would be Albert King. What are your thoughts on this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdDRCIEEZ3w&feature=related

Shnate McDuanus
I'd say that, for the 20th century, probably Jimi Hendrix. Not considering those who influenced him, his performances were, IMO, probably singularly more influential upon guitarists after him than anyone prior to him or after him. bonzoboy
My biggest influences were John Lennon and George Harrison who got me started and Jimi Hendrix who really got me chronically obsessed with guitar.I'd also have to give a big nod to Pete Townshend and Chris Britton.Who's Chris Britton?99.99% of you may ask but he was the lead guitarist for the Troggs and the percussive rythym style of him and Townshend really stuck with me and my strumming style is a mixture of theirs. lagerfanny
If your talking influential as in getting kids to go out and buy guitars it would be, Tony Iommi & Ritchie Blackmore But like it or not the one guy that has a true global following would be James Hetfield And thats one HUGE endorsement our favorite guitar company missed the boat on
Rocky4
Jimmy Page, the greatest rock guitarist of all time!!!!!!!
SG FAN
Tony Iommi, if it wasnt for him around 70,000 bands would be missing. x2 I don't know of any metal guitarist that doesn't cite Iommi as a major influence, me included (even though I don't play metal much :))
MrNylon
George Harrison, very under rated. Peter Townsend, with his chords. Jimi Hendrix, the end.

EVOL!
Hendrix. even though he played a Strat This [thumbup] Jimi Hendrix put the word electric in electric guitar. And he is the highest prophet in the church of the sonic guitar; like jesus, mohammad, and buddha rolled into one. Other greats came before him and influenced him, but Hendrix set the bar higher.
