bonzoboy
Hi Taxman,I see that we are on the same page regarding guitars.I hope eventually to have all of the important Beatle guitars and amps.I currently have a '65 Strat,66 Gretsch Tennessean,Epi EJ-160-E John Lennon,1965 John Lennon Casino '08 natural Casino,Tele,Les Paul,S.G. The next on my list is a Rickenbacker 360/12,most likely or maybe a 325C64. I recently quit smoking and I'm using the Rics as incentive to quit. After I get my Rics I'll be looking for a Gretsch Country Gentleman. I have a Vox AD120VTH modeling amp that sounds almost identical to the AC15 and 30s and Fender Twins so that should do me until I can dig up the scratch for the real thing.BTW I also have a Yamaha FG346SB that was John's around the house guitar and the one he used for writing in latter years and for singing to Sean at bedtime. The closest to a Hofner bass I could find around here so far is my Vox Astro IV Model V273 violin bass with built in fuzz,bass/treble boost and G tuner,it sounds close to a Hofner and with the fuzz built in is great for playing George's "Think For Yourself". It will take years but I'm determined that before I shuffle off this mortal coil I'll have all the great Beatles gear.BTW these are not all my guitars as I have 30 but these are the Beatle related ones. taxman
Are they a local band? Not-Too-Late, I had to laugh at that one. Not laughing at you, just laughing at that line. Paul Weller is as far from a local band as Derek Jeter is to a little league baseball player. I'm not a fan of Paul Weller's new stuff, but some of what he did with his bands The Jam and The Style Council would make John Lennon and Bob Dylan jealous. Paul Weller is one of the top songwriters of the 20th century. Probably top five. He's been that brilliant.

taxman
Oooops! HAHA. I guess I've been out of action longer than I thought. No problem. Honestly, Weller is more of a UK legend than a US one. Nonetheless, the guy really is a top songwriter. Plus he always played great gear: Rickenbackers, Vox amps, Epiphone Casinos. He was cool on many levels. You really never heard either of these two songs?

Supersonic
I don't know what the greatest song with an Epiphone is, but this one's pretty good and it has two.

If you look on E-Bay and Craig's list an early 90's 360/12 can be found for around $1700 if you don't want the toaster pickups. If you want new that's another story and you're not getting the toasters anyhow.

stein
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSnQ0bdHW0s That's it right there. If it isn't a personal favorite, at least have to give credit that it is the most IMPORTANT songs ever done on an Epi.
Oldhippie
Stop !! I am the Beatles-Fan number one in the world!! Especially George is my musician for the rest of my live. He played his guitar like nobody else for me. It doesn´t matter what brand of guitar he played. I grew up with the Beatles and still like their music. I wish, George would be still with us. Last year I visited his house in England / Henley on Thames. Don´t get me wrong....I was not in his house.
taxman
Just thought of a truely monumental tune that features an Epiphone. Apart from The Beatles "Yesterday," I'd have to say that this tune is about the most well known tune ever played on an Epiphone. Though my guess is it was recorded with a Martin, the world saw Epiphone!

Though my guess is it was recorded with a Martin, the world saw Epiphone! You are probably right. I thought that was one of the worst movies I ever saw, especially since Burt Reynolds was in it. But I do give a huge for that scene. Epiphone strikes again! I cringed though, when I heard the gas station attendent say $4.99 for filling his gas tank. bobouz
I thought that was one of the worst movies I ever saw Whereas at the time I thought it was one of the better movies to come along. Don't know how I'd feel about it if I sat down & watched the whole thing today, but that scene is a neat one.
charlie brown
Whereas at the time I thought it was one of the better movies to come along. Don't know how I'd feel about it if I sat down & watched the whole thing today, but that scene is a neat one. Well, at that time, that movie was pretty intense. We weren't used to seeing much worse, piped into our living rooms, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, with smiling talking heads, giving us all the gory details, like we are now. News, from "Vietnam" was only played at suppertime, back then. ;>b CB
Oldhippie
@ Taxman....what is that colored Strat-like guitar in your pics? Is it a George Harrison Signature? Is it possible to get a bigger pic from it? It looks as the one George played in the magical mystery tour.
taxman
@ Taxman....what is that colored Strat-like guitar in your pics? Are you talking about the guitar in my avatar? Yeah, that's George's Strat that he painted himself and called "Rocky." The one in "Magical Mystery Tour" movie and in the avatar at left is an early paint job by George. A few months later he really went crazy on it and painted more colors and words and things. You can't buy them but you can make them yourself. I made one and it wasn't hard, just took some patience:
Svet
Greatest huh, I disagree. There are many more substantial pieces IMHO and that one offers no inspiration for me. The John lee Hooker is more my taste and Duke Robbilard does some freat work on old Epiphones
bloozeguy
I've gotta add a newbie into the conversation, one that Epi itself is touting in its ads. I've been hearing Gary Clark Jr.'s "Don't Owe You A Thing" a bunch and a couple other of his tunes on Penn's fabulous radio station (WXPN) while driving through PA taking my kid to college visits. I know this hasn't stood the test of time yet, but, DANG! And then I see he plays Epis. So let's at least give him and this here song some credit as an up-and-comer. frenchie1281734003
This is the song that got me interested in playing and writing songs way back when, and features John on his Casino. Dear Prudence. +1 on Paul Weller too, but this version of "Changing Man" with the ELO riff!. Steve.
Oldhippie
Even I don´t really like the Strat design, this is a nice one. Especially if it´s connected with George. Is it an Epiphone, or what made is it? Are you talking about the guitar in my avatar? Yeah, that's George's Strat that he painted himself and called "Rocky." The one in "Magical Mystery Tour" movie and in the avatar at left is an early paint job by George. A few months later he really went crazy on it and painted more colors and words and things. taxman
That's a cheap Fender Squier Bullet Strat. I was experimenting with painting a guitar and I sure didn't want to experiment on an expensive one. Funny thing is the guitar is actually a pretty decent sounding guitar. The Squiers can be good. What Epiphone is to Gibson, Squier is to Fender.
stumblinman
I was watching Nickelodeon with my kids a few months ago, and there was this band The Roots on there, playing some song about loving their family, and their lead singer was playing an Epi. I think it was a Coronet. Could have been a Wilshire, I never know which is which. It could be something else altogether. I'm sure it's on Youtube, if you're into adult bands doing a kids song for Yo Gabba Gabba. Not the greatest song, but an interesting Epi sighting.
