heymisterk Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I am not a huge country music fan, but man, Paisley can really play. I found this after I found out the Dr. Z. amps he uses are made in the Cleveland area, where I live. Very impressive tones, and very impressive playing!
charlie brown Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Brad's an alien monster player! He always has a ball, playing, too. CB
surfpup Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Sick! Just goes to show you never know what those Nashville cats have under their hats - a town full of talent despite what the radio may or may not show.
FirstMeasure Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Pretty nice G bender maneuvers, to boot!
zigzag Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Borrowing from another thread, I cannot believe you guys prefer Paisley's style, tone, or lyrics to Knopfler's.
FirstMeasure Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Borrowing from another thread, I cannot believe you guys prefer Paisley's style, tone, or lyrics to Knopfler's. Knopflers great, but Paisley is more fun. That said, I don't think there's a whole Brad Paisley CD I'd want in my collection, but I have to have Dire Straits debut album.
pippy Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Cool! I agree that you can tell he's having a blast when he plays. I loved the little bit he does from 1:50 - 1:54......sweet. P.
heymisterk Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 I guess I didn't know he was such a great player. What I like is that, while the technique is clearly there, he doesn't belabor the point: he just gets on and plays. And he does so with great fun and passion.
Guest rogerb Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Brad Paisley is a hot player for sure!
charlie brown Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Sick! Just goes to show you never know what those Nashville cats have under their hats - a town full of talent despite what the radio may or may not show. Reminds me of the old "Lovin' Spoonful" song: "Nashville Cats!" "and, they can play twice as better, than I will" LOL CB
Morkolo Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Brad Paisley is a great country guitarist, and that's by no means a secret in the country world. Whenever he's on TV I'll take the chance and listen to is slow stuff, which I'm not the biggest fan of just to catch a spot where he rips it up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y-Ipi1dnng
milod Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 A definite thumbs up to a lotta the Nashville guys - including the ones nobody ever, or at least hardly ever, hears about. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of the old live radio days when guys could do swing jazz one half hour gig, funny country of the day the next, then swap to smooth pop tunes... and then... Audiences often didn't realize it was the same folks, cuz they'd change the name of the group. Those old timers - and still some of those Nashvillians and studio pickers everywhere - are more interested in making a living playing than in making a name with a style, and burning out like so many road musicians of various sorts have done through the years. I'm no Lawrence Welk fan, but he made himself wealthy and some of his band folks famous enough to make an even better living on their own due to the many styles played. m
jaxson50 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Brad is great and puts on a hell of a show...
FirstMeasure Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Milo - That's exactly what I think is missing from modern musicians. The ability and willingness to play outside their pigeonhole and just entertain the listener. Seem like everyone wants to entertain so long as the audience is completely on board with the artist's style and idiosyncrasies.
Californiaman Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 It's clear that Paisley is capable of playing outside the box when it comes to the Country genre. Rock on with your badself Brad. Rock on.
milod Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Firstmeasure... Absolutely with you on that. I won't claim to be good at anything, but I've had great fun doing rhythm guitar or bass with folks playing everything from swing to oom-pah polkas to rock, blues, country and light jazz. Audiences were happy, the other musicians were almost inevitably fun to work with... what more to say other than I love pickin' with folks having fun entertaining others. But there are guys like Notes Norton and others who make their living at it who know... and are good enough all-around musicians who can give a good show in a number of styles. I know a couple around here where a one-style pro will very quickly need to find a day job, and there ain't many. m
