try for £420 thats what i got mine for in USA from american musical supply with the 10% off coupon.

Cheers, can't seem to find a '62 Sheraton reissue for less than £560 now. Missed out on the one at £450, it got snapped up pretty quickly. I do have the opportunity to buy one of the ES 355 reissues though in cherry with the bigsby and gold hardware. For £500, is this limited edition worth buying as I don't think it comes with the USA humbuckers that the Sheraton does. Which guitar should I go for? I like the looks of the ES355 but am unsure about the sound and feel of either guitar. Help. Ta

Well, Personally, I'd get the 50th Anniversay '62 Sheraton! It's a reissue, of an actual Epiphone

model, as opposed to a less expensive (alternative) Epiphone version, of a Classic Gibson model.

If I wanted a ES-355, I'd save money, for an actual Gibson. But, that's just ME! Also, the Epi

ES-355 seems to have had quite a lot of "finish/QC" issues, as we've seen here, on this forum.

The '62 Sheraton, seems less prone to those. However, some have had shipping damage problems.

So, I'd look it over carefully, in the dealer, or (especially) if you get one, "on line!" Also,

the '62 Sheraton has USA hardware, pots, and Gibson Mini-humbucker pickups! Always a "plus"...

at least, with me.

Good luck, with whatever you decide to do!

AMS are now selling returned guitars at $200 off, might be worth calling to see what the "minor cosmetic imperfections" actually are. If someone got one with gold peeling off the pickup like mine (which Gibson replaced) might be a real bargain there. Weird they have returned guitars in all the colors, might be a sign of a large production problem.

I got the epiphone 355 in white last year, absolutely love it, great guitar and the pickups sound great. I may in the future change them out but right now I don't see the need as I think they're great. I can't really tell u which to choose as I tried a 62 Sheraton reissue on Monday and have now fallen in love with these too ha. Hopefully getting one in a month if they're still kicking about in the uk.

besides the thin neck, the cherry one i got is absolutely wonderful.. at first i hated the neck because I'm a fat neck snob, but now that im used to it, i like it a lot... the guitar just rings like a bell with an "old woody tone" that no other epiphone but the 61 casino reissue has(which i also have). the the reissue epi's are some of the best since the 60's

i'll also add that the fit and finish on my sherry is better than the goldtop gibson usa deluxe i just got....

Just took a test drive with one at guitar center- cherry with the frequensator into a Bugera v5, just clean. i hate when people plug into a jacked marshall half stack and play for the whole store...

Anyways, first thing that happened, before i even plugged in, was the wooden part of the frequensator fell out. the pots were a little scratchy, which i thought was odd on a new guitar they probably havent had for very long. Other than that, it sounded great, almost too much for me. Huge range on the pickups, though i thought they leaned more towards the bassy/mid side, and I couldnt replicate the tinny, 60s bridge sound as I can on my sheraton II. I didn't really like the frequensator, and would probably swap out for a proper bigsby, especially when the wood bit is already falling out. The neck is thinner than my sherrie as well, which surprised me as i though mine was pretty thin.

Apart from that, I'd put it at an elitist level of construction and sound. Im not rushing out to get one, but if you're in the market for a 335 style, and you can find one of these on sale, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat.

  • 2 weeks later...

My '62 reissue Sheraton in natural arrived yesterday from AMS. The finish was on point! :) I’d say for mine it was 98.99 percent near perfect. Not 100% because a few screws holding the Frequensator to the body have been screwed in at a bad angle – not flushed. [glare] Other than that the finish and binding was spot on. It’s just a gorgeous looking guitar!

Nashville did a great job setting up the action out of the box. [thumbup] The Guitar has proper height, no fret buzzing, and good intonation, adjustments not needed. Frets were nice, smooth and even…nothing felt rough or high. The strings are fresh and sounded good. I would think these are Gibson’s stings all things considered. Normally, I’m a GHS Boomer customer but these strings are very nice.

My guitar is surprisingly well made coming out of China. This is a nod in the right direction to Epiphone’s credit over the past 5 years. My first Epiphone was a Les Paul Custom that had quite a few cosmetic blemishes in the paint with ‘bleeding’ into the binding, other than that it was a solid build guitar. My Sheraton is seems well put together. If I have to grade mine, I'd give it a solid ‘A’.

This 50th Anniversary '62 Sheraton is a keeper (at least mine). ;) Everything was included and documented as advertised, nice case too. Oh, and if you are curious I have no. 34 out of 1,962! SWEET! [biggrin]

Congrats on getting yours in. Mine was supposed to be either in or shipped by Jan. 15th. It still hasn't arrived to my dealer. I just contacted them today to see what the hold up was. This has been the first time I ordered something direct before it hit retailers. So far it has been a pretty crappy experience. I ordered in mid November and I have yet to receive a problem free Sherry :( .

Can you just cancel your dealers order and get it from AMS? AMS still have all colors in stock and with the 10% coupon code and BeFrugal cashback it might be much cheaper. Also their return policy is really good if it has a problem, the ship you a new one free as soon as you email your return shipping receipt.

Really sorry to hear that. I almost didn't buy my Sherri because I read this thread first, learning about the problem guitars everyone here ended up with. But it was too tempting not to pass up either.

I know how it feels. I went through it with an accoustic/electric I pre-ordered some years back. It was damaged from shipping and no more were available because it sold out fast. I wanted to keep it so I opted to see if my local luthier could repair it.

A few of the bracings and struts were broken as well as the impact damaged to the body. It would've cost too much to fix it, a lot more than what I paid for it. So I waited, and waited for a new one after returning it. They never restocked it and by then I lost interests in trying to acquire another one. Ended up buying an Epi Les Paul Custom instead. (Solid guitar, but had a lot of cosmetic blemishes in the paint with 'bleeding' in the binding.)

Here is hoping you get it soon and without any of the issues.

I concur, AMS is where I purchased mine.

I would do that but I got a really killer deal from my local dealer. I was able to order from them about $100 cheaper than AMS for the tremotone version. I'm going to wait it out. I e-mailed them today to see what the hold up is. The first one came in less than a month after I ordered it. Played so nice, but had the neck cracks that a lot of these seem to have.

Just got word that my Guitar just arrived in Nashville and is going through inspection, Setup, and QC. SO hopefully it should be here soon.

My Cherry is on it's way to me from Long & McQuades' head office in Toronto and should be here in Vancouver late this week or early next. Can't wait! Glad I ordered when I did as it seems eveyones' sold out of the Cherry.

I still haven't got mine yet, I'm waiting for pay day. The cherry is available I a few places here in the uk, granted we'll have got the sheratons later than the US though.

Hey gents, while waiting for my Cherry Sherry to arrive, I've removed the Gold Bigsby B7 from my LP Custom, (it was too close to the pots to be comfortable) and was thinking how nice it might look on the Sheraton.

Thought 1, would it be irresponsible of me to mod a Ltd. edition guitar when I have no plans to sell it and..,

2, has anyone used a Chet Atkins wire arm with their Bigsby on a semi acoustic? Thanks!

Well even though I received work last week that my guitar is in Nashville it still hasn't arrived here ( I'm only 5 hours south of Nashville ). This has been an extremely frustrating experience. I don't think I will ever pre-order another guitar. I just want to play the thing already. I feel so teased because the first one I received played like butter :(

funny you mention that. I have a gold Bigsby arriving this week that I plan on installing on my Cherry ltd edition Sheraton. Stay tuned for pix [thumbup]

Please! We'd love to see it. Have you considered the Chet Atkins arm, as it allows the arm to hover over the strings (like a Strat) vs. the flat arm which prevents that.
