  1. Congratulations Rabs. Absolutely stunning guitar. Now go spank your new plank and get back with a full report!
  2. Hi Sgt. So true right? Last week I brought a ham/cheese/salami sandwich for lunch that was loaded with way too much ham. I took a few slices off and was looking for the dogs to give them some when I spotted a black and brown streak running down the hall. The big dog had grabbed the whole sandwich and ran off with it, and I swear I her her laughing.
  3. Hi Merciful-Evans. Yeah, they were relieved and very grateful we were able to deal with this emergency at home and very quickly. Bonus points for not getting bitten in the process
  4. Guess I just lucked out with the boss thing. Later in the career I had a chance to put together an engineering group with 10 direct reports and did my best to remember what a crappy boss was like and vowed never to be that way. As the saying goes, "Boss spelled backwards is Double SOB."
  5. Hey, fortyyearspicking sorry to hear that. I had a scumbag boss once and found that if you try not to take anything personally, especially if it's meant personally it really pisses the other guy off. My dad taught me a long time ago - "You can't argue with an idiot, because a by-stander won't be able to tell the difference." Besides, there's always Karma; with any luck he'll do a Heimlich on someone else (since it saved his miserable butt) and get fired for sexual harassment.
  6. Thanks Retired. We have had a few dogs over the years. The one above we got from a kill shelter. She was a mess; sitting in a urine and feces filled cage, wouldn't look at anyone, had mange, scrawny. The guys at the shelter said if we were interested come back in an hour and they would clean her up. She turned out to be the most loyal, well behaved dog we ever had. We also have another rescue, a mixed-breed hound, very smart dog
  7. I know it's not a guitar topic, but if anyone has a dog, you may be interested. I was noodling around with a couple of guitars (OK, so I made it guitar-centric) when I hear screaming from downstairs by wife and kid, calling for help. It seems that the kid took the dog for a walk (a wonder in itself) and gave the dog a treat. A chicken treat in the form of a drinking straw thing. The dog was gagging, chocking, hacking and staggering around. Of course the W & K are screaming at me to "Do Something!" Before I retired I worked in a bunch of chemical plants and always took the Red Cross CPR classes they offered. The course also included a section on the Heimlich Maneuver. It would take at least 25 minutes to get the dog to the vet, so the Heimlich was my only option. The dog is fairly large (a black lab-rottweiler mix) so I forced her back legs down to a sitting position and was able to put my hands on her belly (she's all belly BTW) and do the HM. On the second try, a 2 inch piece of the treat popped out. The wife and kids started heaping accolades on the dog (for not dying) and the dog. being a dog thought the praise was for eating a treat. So in true dog style, the beast quickly snapped up the offending treat before anyone could take it away and successfully managed to chew and swallow it. I was curious to see if doing the HM for dogs was a legit thing and by God there are a number of Pet/Vet websites that detail how to do this to large and small dogs.
  8. SB is an excuse for a party, but my son-in-law is from the Cincinnati area so by default we were rooting for them. Me, the wife, and other daughter each made a dish to snack on during the game (chili, natchos, and key lime pie). Had beers, bourbon, and stepped outside with the kid for a super bowl. A good night indeed.
  9. Whoa, that young lady is truly amazing. Does she have an older sister? Seriously, I can appreciate the dedication and talent necessary to play like that, I'll never be close to that.
  10. Well since this a guitar forum I'll say Pluck It
  11. I'm right handed and play as such, but my daughter is a lefty and has a lefty SG. I tried it a few times, but every time I tried I was over-thinking (more likely not thinking enough) the placement of fingering chords with my right hand. That plus looking down at the fretboard upside down almost caused my brain to melt. Had to calm down with a few beers after such a harrowing experience. I applaud anyone who can play them lefty guitars!
  12. One more vote for doing what YOU are comfortable Chris. Any reasonable friend should understand your risk/tolerance level of possible exposure. We had a family member pass away last month of natural causes at age 92, but the viewing and funeral was very brief and limited to close family only by request. Even then some family did not feel comfortable attending and this was understood and accepted by everyone.
  13. OK Pinch, here's my take on it. I just played a bit on the Gibson and Epiphone LP's I have. Without measuring anything, my impressions of playing them follows: 1998 Gibson LP Standard has the thickest feeling neck 2021 Epiphone Slash is slightly thinner than the Gibson above, but you can feel the difference 1996 Gibson Classic is thinner than both above. Its has a 60's style thin neck 2019 Epiphone Peter Frampton Les Paul is very similar to the Gibson Classic Hope this put it in perspective for you
  14. Pinch, I just got a Epiphone Slash anaconda burst.. I'll do an A/B against my 1998 LP standard and get back to you in a bit
  15. Sorry I'm late to the game on this thread, but if you read the ad for the Gibson shirt, it does state Pick Pocket. just saying...
  16. Been there, done that. Kinda like Peter and Lois.
  17. As for the picture above, he's whispering in her ear "Lets switch to the middle position"
  18. Somnospeed, I was going to suggest the middle position contact of the switch or a wire in that position as the cause while reading your initial post, but as usual, the folks on here bring a wealth of knowledge to solve problems like this. Glad you were able to correct it for no cash outlay either.
  19. Tman, Must be a relief to be this close to moving in. As the other guys have said, a killer view Enjoy the official move-in day and do celebrate in style. Congrats!
  20. Hey RCT, from one Jersey guy to another, you'll love Florida. My sister lives in Altamont Springs, a great city. I retired a few years ago, and I'm waiting for the wife to retire, not sure where we want to be, even though NJ has a lot to offer (nothing against the other 49): Several weeks in the summer of 100 + degree weather, Several weeks in the winter of single digit (and low teen) weather, Several weeks in the winter of single digit (and low teen) weather, Hurricanes (Sandy & Ida really kicked our a$$), The occasional earthquake, A plague of locust every 17 years, the cicadas this year were ungodly. All kidding aside, enjoy your new home, Florida is definitely on our radar.
  21. Nope. ...and great minds think alike. We had a Sicilian pizza and Wet Ticket brews (the local micro brewery) for dinner today also.
  22. Wrong! As a proud resident of NJ, with the $0.33 sales tax it's exactly $5.00
  23. Last thing I splurged on was the daughter's wedding last September: about $65K, this included the venue, dress, flowers, photographer, band, and various other expenses. The last thing I overspent on was an Epiphone Slash LP, got home from the wedding in early October and the price went up on the guitar, but WTF you only live once.
