  1. True, though my preferred tone was a heavy (sometimes medium) Gibson triangular black pick. I used them for at least 25 years. That only applies to electrics though. I found Blue Chip TAD40 to be a slight improvement though. Maybe 10% or 15% I reckon. I have never used picks on acoustics. Thumbpicks sometimes when my thumbnail is missing; otherwise its fingers all the way.
  2. You are the most astute fellow here rct. You may, or may not, have yet reached the critical realisation that the uk is entirely digital. The maps/atlases are wrong. There is no mainland uk. There is just empty water between Ireland and Scandinavia. We are an invention of the Irish; the product of their imagination. They desired one thing more than anything, more than happiness, money, immortality or potatoes. Tired of fighting among themselves, they desired an enduring external oppressor, and the legend of Britain was born. We all went to Hogwarts retrospectively. As soon as the Potter #1 released, we all had the update. I now have fond implanted memories of Hogwarts just like jgdm and Rabs. All 63 million of us live next door to Helen Mirren. Helen is due an upgrade BTW. She is starting to pixelate around the cheeks. Bill Nighy is almost all pixels now poor devil. Oh yes, and all the British bands you've seen are holograms too.
  3. This wont mean anything to many (so ignore it) but...My pick research and experiments concern one technique only; alternate picking (feathering, speedpicking etc). Everything else can be done with cheap thin picks. Quick alternate picking cannot because you get lag. Any deflection in a pick will translate into lag. It may not seem noticeable, and I only realised it when listening back to a recording of a solo I once made. I thought at first it was software latency, but it turned out to be physical delay. It spoilt the recording. This realisation came a few years ago, and I have spent most of that time trying to find the best pick to accommodate quick alternate picking. The pointed tips help most of all. Bevels help too, though they need not be 'handed'. Thickness is vital. The next part is just my opinion/experience and can't be verified anywhere else:Though thickness prevents pick deflection, I have recently realised something else. Pick bulk and size (mass) absorbs string vibration. This translates into smoother picking. My largest (homemade) pick is certainly the smoothest speed wise.
  4. Fine. See about lowering the bridge and setting the guitar up. Do you do this? There are plenty of online videos to show how. Otherwise, get a tech/luthier to do it for you. I've just seen pictures of your guitar on your other thread. Smart looking Goldtop!
  5. That'll sure coax you to play. Heartiest congrats sir!
  6. A bespoke case (like one supplied with guitar) will always be snug fit. I cant cant fit any guitar with strap attached into one of those. You will find aftermarket cases have more room but they need to be tried out. Don't mail order one blindly. Obviously too much room and the guitar will slide about inside and that renders it pretty much unusable. An attached strap can help steady & isolate the guitar. But straps can be of varying bulk. Headstock: You're right; this is most important. It has to be elevated & supported at the neck.
  7. I cant keep my breathing out of any acoustic recording. I once seriously considered wearing a full face motorcycle helmet to remedy that.
  8. um.... what is going on with that neck pickup?
  9. Friday On My Mind - The Easybeats possibly my favourite ever pop song. Its been covered a number of times but never equaled.
  10. If you like, I could weight relieve it for you?
  11. Yeah! I'd go for one of those too 😉 Well, no I wouldn't spoil the exclusivity of your build. I would ask for a v light stain natural finish L5. Normal grained; no flame/no quilt etc. The version with floating mini HB at the neck. A maple neck with a scarf jointed headstock with volute. Ebony board with side dots only (no inlays). Old curvy Gibson logo on the headstock. Tan case with integral shroud and personalised gold name plate next to the handle. Perfection.
  12. The respect for Les is unquestioned. But you seem to be conflating at least 3 events and ending up with false conclusions.
  13. Great. Glad you got there at last. You should be very happy with that choice.
  14. Really? Who said that? And even if they did, why try to steer it into something competitive?
  15. NGD and a broadened horizon. Wonderful gift. 🙂
  16. 🙂 The demo guitars with G-Force in shops became abused in 2015. The alternate tunings were tried and the guitars often left that way. I was always asking assistants to 'sort this out' so I could playthe guitars. I was wary of G-Force in and dubious for that reason. But I got my 2015 guitar new (and un-abused) and I determined to try to use the thing properly. Personally, I never moved away from concert tuning and I always used 'the one string at a time' method to tune. My G-Force only lost its bearings once (after 3 .5 years). Had I only used the guitar at home, I would have kept using it. But I was gigging it and needed 100% confidence, so put Grovers on this year. I was a bit sad about it. Perhaps another generation on would have been enough to address my misgivings. There was nothing wrong with the idea. As Rob Chapman said. We all use digital tuners. The only difference is these ones have a motor on them. 40 years ago, we didnt even have digital tuners. In those days I used to 'imagine an E' and tune to it. I got good at that. A far cry from perfect pitch but useful. I cant do that anymore. I depend on that Snark these days.
  17. This got a lot of discussion on 'another' forum. With Echopark earning plenty of demerits from unhappy customers. So perhaps Echopark will work in a similar way as Orville in Japan?
  18. Sorry, no. Never seen one of those before.
  19. Yes I saw this last night. You could have knocked me down with a feathered arpeggio (If I hadn't already been prone on the settee).
  20. Hendrix has become sainted it seems. There were plenty of other players out there in his day that knew more. I suppose his big sound was a also a part of it. I liked him, and had copies of Ladyland & BOG, but yes there were always other players that got more of my attention. A lot of the time I am unaware of even the better known players of today. I dont have a list either, but if I were to make one, Steve Kimmock and Jimmy Herring would figure in it somewhere.
  21. The ali cases are that heavy?! Pity, they look great. BTW If your old case has a flanged neck support (like an old Fender case) you might be able to slide some pipe lagging over it. If everything else still fits, it will elevate and support the neck. Just choose whatever size lifts it clear. You have a G-Force at least one generation later than mine. They are supposed to be substantially improved. I liked mine and used it happily for 3 years. Check out the videos that show how to re-string. Its fast!
  22. When I read this, what I saw was: and thought to myself 'he is taking the p1ss?' 😄 Old age & faulty eyesight. I suppose I should laugh while I still can!
  23. Not sure what that means, but it sounds positive and encouraging. 👍
