  1. Well I agree that the ding is not too much of a problem under a pick guard, but it would be more so if SK101 wanted remove it. Personally, I always remove them. Fortunately my LP has no PG attachment holes nor marks.
  2. With the hot weather spell (uk) I have found an unusual amount of movement in a bunch of my guitars. The most surprising was a back bow in my Ric 650 (now sorted but not quite the same sweet fine adjustment it had). Set-ups needed on a few guitars then. I am essentially lazy, and have been slow to attend to this. For a while I had left my LP Less+ alone. I got it out yesterday and had trouble putting it down again. It has survived the weather and is playing beautifully! The 339 also has ridden out the weather change well. Stability is important. I once sold on a Epi Casino Coupe (that I liked) because of excessive movement. The Gibsons have excelled this summer, with the Less+ outplaying everything else! I wish I had a gig coming up. I want to use it.
  3. This flaw is something that you resent, and clearly that is unlikely to change. I suggest you do something about it now, else you are going to nurse this resentment for the duration of owning the guitar. That's an unhappy prospect. I know because I have a similar enduring attitude to an imperfect PRS guitar. Pip's right about the complaining thing. You have a legitimate issue. Why not just get it sorted and have done with it?
  4. That looks better (to me) than the previous design. It looks like it will protrude less. Any chance of a pic of it fitted?
  5. Great colour / finish. Sounds like a sweet guitar.
  6. Since buying this Squier Esprit (a what?! ... yeah I know) some years back, I have finally completed my last mod; new tuners. While attending to this it occurred to me that this guitar had become truly international.Guitar: Korean (South Korea)Pickups: English (Creamery)Bridge: Japanese (Gotoh)Electrics: American (Switchcraft)Tuners: German (Schaller)I have happily spent more on mods than the purchase price of the guitar because it's (carcass) is simply exceptional. Its the equal of my USA guitars & I am not going to sell it. post mod pic pre mod pick (with Duncan Designed pups & no screw slots on bridge posts) Finding tuners that wouldn't foul themselves on this snakehead took a lot of careful measuring up: Yes, this is a Fender copy of a Gibson style build. It was only in production for one year (and that was about 14 years ago).
  7. That's how I got mine. It also helped that it was 2015. Reduction of 49%
  8. If I needed a 2nd LP (which I dont) I couldn't cope with those burstbuckers. I once played a Standard on every setting on both Orange & Marshall amps and couldn't find a usable tone. It transpired they were BBs. So far as value is concerned, why not a Studio or a Tribute?
  9. Me too. I have a similar taste in pickups to Bill, but have yet to find some SDs that I like. Not heard 'WholeLOttaHums' yet. Congrats Mr. Bill. Enjoy that thing!
  10. Yikes! Looks like removing the thing is the priority.
  11. moisturising matte copper rouge coils?
  12. Clearly, the tree behind the car has grown up after the crash!
  13. Going by the neck width I thought assumed was a nylon string at first. I have a softer V neck which is very comfy, so no qualms there. I always assumed parlour models to be on the quiet side, but some smaller guitars can be surprisingly loud. How is yours? And more importantly, how is the tone?
  14. That sounds like a very unfortunate and annoying reaction. Perhaps you may have developed a hypersensitivity to woods? Is it the mostly the newer hollowbodies where residue/dust may remain? I'm sure I've heard Yosemite Sam mention this.
  15. I think I've just lost the will to live💀 I cite zero point accuracy, moving goalposts, split hairs, irrelevance, and the worst of all... loyalty to a dying cause! I have. I have just lost the will to live💀💀
  16. At first I thought you meant to remove them. Then I twigged on! Relicing = Creative Destruction. A weird concept if there ever was one.
  17. I suppose that would make a case for headless tuners. I don't think of it of critically important. My point is that the nut is more than a fixed point for the string scale. It also has the function of channeling/directing the string to its anchor point. The string under tension is resistant to a sharp break angle, but we need the downward angle to allow the string to vibrate freely. The additional sideways pull of a Gibson style headstock creates a compound break angle which is now spoiling the alignment through the straight nut slot and creating additional sideways tension against it. That is less efficient and arguably more likely to contribute to binding.
  18. Sorry to hear this. I was a big fan of Gary's playing. I added a video of his playing to the recent 'Early Examples of Les Paul Players' thread. I never got to see QMS, though I had tickets for a show at Londons Roundhouse. That got cancelled 😞 . The last recording a have is 'Strange Trim'. A solo effort (though the artist is listed as 'Quicksilver'). I may have to dig out some QMS albums today. Happy Trails, Shady Grove, Comin Thru.
  19. I think I am starting to feel some of your enthusiasm for wood. I'm sure the feel and smell of the timber would add to that. I cant say I have ever knowingly come across anything made from London Plane. I've just had a look and discovered London Plane is a hybrid of American Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) and Oriental Plane (P. orientalis).
  20. Yes I use a trimmer like in Black Dog's picture. I cant even recall what I used to pay. Whatever it was, it would be in £s. My barber was a fellow called Alan. He had one of the last few proper barber shops in the Portsmouth area. By proper, I mean no 'artiste' pretension/affectation nor salon components around. He even had old DIY and bike magazine on the table. There was a large poster on the wall of him on a Caribbean beach cutting someone's hair. It read 'Alans Paradise barber Shop'. We used to talk about nothing of any importance with enjoyment.
  21. I'm sure further rework could make difference of some sort, but I've stopped short of where I think the change could be adverse. It also sounds as if you have more lutherie experience than I do. However, I have been playing 49 years and my work was in mechanical engineering. One aspect of the discussion which is without any doubt in my mind is this: A straight string path is more efficient. There is no 'wasted' potential energy creating sideways tension on the nut. Yes I know it can be made to work, but it is a poorer design. IMO its a design flaw. Your remark about PRS string binding describes a nut slot too narrow for the .009" string gauge. That is a manufacturing flaw. Its not a design flaw. Your experience is informative, but until I experience anything similar, I have to remain guided by my own experience; such as it is. Thanks for asking.
