mackles73 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 This could be too good to be true since I talked the guy down to 1800 cash. Here is the link to the posting. What should I do? Advice? Thanks all!!! http://charlotte.craigslist.org/msg/3703706325.html
seanp33 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 It's not a true vintage like the description suggests but it's not a bad deal. Are you able to try it out?
mackles73 Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 The other issue is he's 2.5 hours away from me so if I try it out and turns out to be dud I'm stuck. Still 1800...not sure a deal like comes around very often.

EuroAussie Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I find Hummingbirds to be massively inconsistent, in particular the standards like this one. You will be taking quite a risk if you buy it unplayed. Ask for some sound samples, that can give you an indication what to expect. Be careful with Birds.
davenumber2 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I don't think he's intentionally misrepresenting that it's a TV. Looks like he just copied and pasted the wrong model description.
DanvillRob Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I say go for it..... go in person to pick it up and if it's a dud, then don't go through with it....you're out one day of your life and some gas. I think it's beautiful, (just the 'Bird I'd want).

Dave F Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Looks identical to the new one bought that I PM'd you about. The $500 difference for a new one is borderline to me in this price range.
fortyearspickn Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Truss rod cover should say "Hummingbird". Stear clear.
Dave F Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Truss rod cover should say "Hummingbird". Stear clear. My new 2013 I just bought from a 5-star dealer does not have Hummingbird on the cover Gibson's sight does not show one either http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Acoustic-Instruments/Square-Shoulder/Gibson-Acoustic/Hummingbird/Neck-and-Headstock.aspx
DanvillRob Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 My new 2013 I just bought from a 5-star dealer does not have Hummingbird on the cover Gibson's sight does not show one either http://www2.gibson.c...-Headstock.aspx Yeah...that didn't bother me... my 'Bird says "Custom" not "Hummingbird", and I'm relatively certain it's legit.
seanp33 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Truss rod cover should say "Hummingbird". Stear clear. The Hummingbird TV model is the one that says "Hummingbird" on the truss rod cover. The modern classics have nothing on the truss rod cover.
mackles73 Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 You all kick *** for helping! I just low balled to 1600 and rolled the dice!! Guy is a musician and is willing to travel. Here's hoping this Gibson fanatic gets a gem. Love this board! Thanks all!!!
xTonyWonder Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I say go for it..... go in person to pick it up and if it's a dud, then don't go through with it....you're out one day of your life and some gas. I think it's beautiful, (just the 'Bird I'd want). I completely agree with this. The seller shouldn't have an issue with you wanting to play it first. If it doesn't grab you, then let it go. That way you aren't left wondering about what could've been. Good luck! Looking forward to your NGD pics
merseybeat1963 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Gibson Forum Trading Post http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/99690-90s-gibson-acoustic-guitars/
Smurfbird Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 First, I am very glad to hear that Will (alias) is a good man and a real person! I didn't mean to suggest he wasn't. Just what was the protocol when someone is a newbie and has no track record and is selling... that is all. Two, if anyone is interested in a Gibson Dove, 2010, with pickup, please PM me. I am in the process of getting the photos uploaded and accepting that I should trade it for another guitar I am currently in love with...price is $2000 shipped. Just about brand new. The difference between the standard HB is the natural finish, the pick guard, and the maple back and sides which make it a much brighter and louder guitar than most HB.
mackles73 Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 It's on! 1600 and with no snags, I am finally getting a Hummingbird!!! Pics to follow! Thanks again all!

aliasphobias Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Congratulations on a nice acquisition! Keep the forum updated. Thanks for the inquiring about the one I have in the Trading Post. (thanks MB) The one I have is a little different in that it has the 25 1/2" scale. I love mine (I have two) and find them to be as advertised by Gibson as the perfect voice accompaniment.
mackles73 Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 And it's done! One proud owner of a Gibson Hummingbird. For 1600 bones I could not have any better! Taken this bad boy and stretched its legs and it has not disappointed. Happiest man on the planet right now. Tried to attach some pics on the iPad and said file was too big. Oh well.
