New temptation

Hello All!

Have You seen this beauty?

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Designer/Gibson-USA/Midtown-Kalamazoo/Specs.aspx

I feel GAS. Even though, it's a chambered guitar with f-holes - not a real hollow-body -, the rest of the specs makes me think this going to be winner again for Gibson.

What do You think?

Cheers... Bence

My first reaction was "OOOOHHH......................YEESSSS!!!!!

The only aspect about it which raises a question mark is the neck.

It goes with the traditional Byrdland shorter 23.5" scale yet, oddly enough (to me!), it has a fingerboard which goes from being fractionally wider than an a LP at the nut to almost 0.3" wider at the 22nd fret.

I've played a fellow forumite's 1961 Byrdland and liked it, however (and I thought the neck on that example was narrower than my LPs), so I don't suppose I would let those anomalies put me off.

And yes, Bence; as V says the specification page reads : "Body Type - Hollow body".

I notice the guitar will not become available until Nov 5th.

Perhaps it's time to let a Lester go........

Ah, yes: true. I was misleaded by the cavity covers which don't exist on (semi)-hollows - as far as I know. I thought, it's just like the rest of the Midtowns. Excuse me!

...I am very afraid the Tele has to go. It's like pulling teeth, though. But this is charming, especially at this price.

It's great to see interest/innovation/new stuff in the hollow body electric 'field'...

Thanks to Gretsch and Beatles' use of Casinos etc, people are reminded of the subtleties of tones available

They are more challenging to play than typical solids and require a higher level of construction

So like for like will be more expensive to buy

But have a more crafted feel engendering perhaps a longer term ownership ethos...

well the short scale is a bit of an eye opener, you're not going to be doing a lot in those upper registers! [biggrin]

These don't appear to be going for crazy money, so for the guys who have longed for a Brydland, this is a sane way of getting there.

1400 Euros is like the price of a 2013 Les Paul Studio with the Min-ETune...

yea man, I think a bright lime green with yellow racing stripes would SCREAM "Searcy"!!! [thumbup]

White.. hmm perhaps... that would be nice..

Seriously, I so like this, just the way it is..

If I didn't have my Elitist Chet Country Gent already (very similar cept semi), I'd probably be filling the drool cup on this one.

Flat black with line green stripes would be better [thumbup][tongue]

If someone gave me one I would play it just the way it is. May have to try one when they come out.

The rosewood looks out of place to me. I guess ebony is a thing of the past these days. That said... I want to go to there! [woot] [woot] [blink][love]

Will it come in something other than a tasteful burst? Maybe white? I hate tasteful bursts.

There is nothing worse than a tasteful burst - it may cause me GAS attacks since I can't resist [wink]

She's a real beauty, that's for sure-much the same shape as my Ibanez Artcore AFS-75-T.I always loved the Gibson and Epiphone jazzbox style guitars, they consistently sounded incredibly mellow but could put out some dirty tones when called for.

Having studied the spec in more depth...yes an even more interesting guitar...with Byrdland DNA... [thumbup]

No body size quote for some reason

The gold fittings are an irritation...and that ES 165 tailpiece is somewhat busy...

The coil split and RW/RP wiring show real flair and usability... [thumbup]

I'll try it when it hits UK shores... <_<
