Want to Buy: SJ-200 12-String

J-200 Koa

Recommended Posts

I tried this a few months ago with no success so here goes again. I'm looking

for an SJ-200 12-string. Pretty rare but there are some out there, at least

from what I hear. The last batch was in 2010 but there have been other short

runs between 1994 and 2010. If you have any leads, please e-mail me. There have

also been a few J-100 and J-150 12 string models during that time. Thanks in advance!

I was tempted by. Blonde 12 on eBay Uk few months ago

I think it was 94 from memory

From a well known uk group

The money was in my account about $3900

The guy who was their guitar tech for ten years was selling it

When I asked what gauge strings it was strung with

He wasn't sure...

The plug was pulled

Why did the seller not knowing the string gauge make you nervous?

If he acted as a guitar tec for the band for 5 years as stated he would have known what strings the player liked

Strings are a bit of a personal preference look at all the posts on this forum

Also often if the belly is beginning to lift it can be hidden by sticking extra lights which exert less pressure

Funnily enough despite the rarity of the model and despite its provenance the guitar was delisted twice and did not appear to sell

It just didn't feel right

Fair enough

I know I sometimes forget what strings I have on which guitar though as I am always experimenting and each guitar is unique. When I buy a guitar I sometimes have to remember not everyone is as attentive and specific as us here.

But if your gut told you to pass on the sale then you most defiantly did the right thing I'd say

I recently sold a guitar with absolutely no idea what strings were on it.

I pay attention to the strings on the guitar I'm playing. But the one that was leaving had sat for a while and I couldn't remember what they were.

Doesn't mean I was bluffing in any way.

I've owned four 12 stingers down through the years not counting my latest one I got a couple weeks ago.

I get one, do not play it except on rare occasions, sell it, then want another one later on.

It recently hit me again so I bought a less expensive one that I would not feel guilty about setting around for long spells.

I'm afraid if I bought another expensive one the cycle would continue. I bought a used Martin (USA version) HPGL D12X1.

I know from before to just tune it down a half step to enjoy it more

I'm going to chime in here since I just bought a 12-string. I love Gibson and was a little disappointed that Gibson just doesn't make that many 12-strings. I ended up buying a Taylor (and a blinged out one at that) after I played a 400 series one that a friend at work had. I loved the sound the guitar made. To be honest, I pick up the Taylor now more than I pick up the DIF and J-45. But I'm sure it's just a cycle. Learning to play "Hotel California" and this 12-string is magical. I told my guitar teacher that the 12-string is easier to play than the 6-string and he said that was "odd."

You hit the nail on the head!!!

$600 worth of Turner is fine

But I would/ can and Will buy a J200 12 when she flies up

Until then the 12 string us a compromise

Which is Rarer….A J-200 12 string or a J-200 12 Fret??? I've only seen a few of each….

Robert

My money would be on the 12 fret I have handled two 12 strings in the last 20 years

And never seen a 12 fret

I know where my choice would lie

But let's face it they are both as rare as:-

1) Hens teeth

2) Rocking horse sh1t

Hello Everyone

Well, here we go, - I am selling mine!

To the best of my knowledge, Gibson made 32pcs in -92 and 6pcs in -93.

I got mine in -93 here in Finland.

The serialnumber is 92582022.

It's kinda funny - it is registered as a J-2000 and I have always referred to it as such - but it is the J-200 as you guys talk about and link to.

Colour: Vintage Sunburst

Anyway - please contact me direct on patrik.renholm@gmail.com. Pics and specs can be sent better that way.

I will be in New York 26NOV-03DEC - so if you are a serious buyer, I am naturally ready to bring it along etc.

Let's see what a spinn off effect this letter can bring :)

Br.

Patrik
