This one hurts, RIP Guitar Murphy

I saw that and was saddened by his passing. He always seemed to really enjoy playing every time I saw him play, whether live or on TV or in the movies. He was a real inspiration. I'm sure he was greeted by many other musicians who have passed and they said, "Welcome to the band."

Back in 1971, I got hooked on Memphis Slim's music. Matt Murphy was his guitarist for many years, and along with the work of Freddie King, some passages in Matt's work from that era clearly influenced a young Clapton.

Witness the short but memorable solo from "I Ain't Got You" with the Yardbirds. As a kid in the '60s, that solo felt like it was wired directly to my brain. It wasn't until years later that I heard an earlier & very similar solo by Matt Murphy on a Memphis Slim recording.

Thank you Matt, for all your contributions.
