So I just got a tribute for Christmas, and the finish is not shiny at all I had to put a couple pieces on that were not on yet which I found odd . Yes it’s a real Gibson not fake, my question is what can I use to make it shiny??? And what can I not use, I love my Gibson should I call them n see if it’s a hurry up n send it thing or just find something to shine it up

Is it a Satin finish or gloss finish?  If it’s Satin or Matte Satin you might want to hold on a minute… You can Call Gibson Customer Service & have them recommend something.. The Phone Call will be reference in case something goes wrong..

My Epiphone Revolution Casino has a Matte Satin Natural finish like John Lennon’s. I dust the Body, Lemon oil the neck occasionally & Polish the Chrome but that’s about it…. It looks great..

Virtuoso has a couple of products (cleaner and a polish) which will shine it up a bit but you're not going to get a high gloss like you would if it had a couple of coats of clear nitro.

I would try a spot on the back to see how it goes before you hit the front of the guitar.

I actually prefer a satin finish and I have the opposite 'problem' with my LP.

Handling & playing will eventually wear the finish down and show a glossier finish in those places, but that's not what you want.

If we knew what the surface finish was https://isofinishing.com/surface-roughness-in-manufacturing/  then we would know what fine abrasive polishing pad/paper to begin polishing it with. I am thinking of fret polishing pads. With frets you use about 6 different fine pads, begining with the roughest and ending with the smoothest.

Without knowing the surface finish to begin with, you might wear out your finest papers/pads without showing any difference.

Finished frets of course are very shiny, but before you got anywhere near the finest ones it would make more sense to reach for regular old polish.

Thank you so much
