A Dog's Perspective. Yeah, you read it right. I'm talking about a Shih Tzu named Mozart.

I heard an interesting story about a song recently.  You know how a rabbit hole can be.  I chased one down the hole and came out with this.

Check it out.  Hears the story behind a song that resulted in a pretty good rock ballad. From a dog's perspective, "Fill My World."

"Musically, I came up with it at my studio," Slash said. "It was just the opening riff, and then the underlying chord changes started to come out in my mind. I wasn't sure if I was going to pursue it or not, but I had to record it and make a demo. I thought, I don't know what the guys are going to think… Because it has a certain sentimental kind of feel to it. But I sent it to Myles, and he came back with these heartfelt lyrics. I thought it was about the loss we've all been suffering during this dark period, and then he told me it was about his dog. [Laughs] I said, 'Well, you know, everybody has had somebody that they love affected by this, so…'"

Kennedy adds: "So, I have this little Shih Tzu named Mozart. He tries to act all tough, but he's really not. And on one occasion, we couldn't get home, our flight was delayed, and there was a really intense storm over our house. We have one of those little camera systems to keep an eye on the dog when we can't be there, and we saw him just freaking out. It was heartbreaking to watch. It terrified the little guy. So, the narrative of the song is inspired by what I imagined he might have been thinking as it all went down. And his plea to us to come home. When you listen to it, it could apply to a relationship between humans. But I thought it was interesting, at least for me, to sing it from Mozart's perspective. And to be really honest, as I was singing the song in the studio, at one point you can hear my voice crack a little bit. It was getting to me. So, it's definitely sung from the heart. And I'm man enough to admit it."

Lyrics:
And when the silence comes
It breaks my heart
When I'm lonely
I always fall apart

And when I'm left behind
I climb the walls
Never knowing
If you really cared at all

Did you get to where you're going
To the place you're meant to be?
Still, I'm holding out that you'll return to me

Somewhere
Somewhere beyond

Turn the key
Please come back to me
What I'd give to know you'll fill my world again

The wind is screaming out
I pace the floor
And I wonder, will I see your face once more?

You were always here to save me
Like a sentinel in the dark
As the thunder keeps on rolling through my heart, oh

But still some way
I keep holding on

Turn the key
Please come back to me
For how long will you be gone
I'm barely breathing
Because all I know
Is that I miss you so
What I'd give to know you'll fill my world again

Say it won't be long
It won't be long
Say it won't be long
It won't be long
'Til you'll come home

Turn the key
Please come back to me
For how long will you be gone?
I'm barely breathing
Because all I know
Is that I miss you so
What I'd giv toe know you'll fill my world again, oh, oh

Say it won't be long
It won't be long
Say it won't be long
It won't be long
Please come home
Oh-oh
Please come home

Actually, after having three Shih-Tzus,  the OP lyrics do seem to capture the dog's spirit.  Hell, I'd just go out the back door to take out the trash and when I return to the back door of the house,  the last one we had would(like her predecessors) be at the top of the landing acting anxiously as if I had been gone for hours!  [love]

And thunderstorms?  Well, after a couple of them I thought it best to place a soft, folded fleece blanket under the head of our bed where they would typically hide for the duration.

Great lyrics.  Kind of similar, but not from the dog's perspective, there was a song by Mr Bungle called "Stubb (A Dub)" about how children have pets that become family members and the dark side of that (You taught me a lesson, thanks, mom):

Do you remember
We called you puppy?
Now you're one of us
We call you family

Treading underfoot and stinking ***
Hold the door aside and let her pass

Glaucoma

Reflections of a bloated lie
A life stored in your cloudy eye
Now it's time to say goodbye
Stubb A Dub will never die

Chase a tail that isn't there
It's time to wipe your butt
Sliding down butt hill

Dahg Rastubfari, do you know
That you're a ******* dog?
And if you can hear me, then throw up
Give me a sign

And I'll throw a stick, bring it back
Roll over and die
You taught me a lesson
Thanks, mom

Do you understand me
Do you think about me when you're peeing?
Do you really think you're gonna grow
Into a human being?

This dog has seen better days

You're gonna die
How does it feel, Stubb?

Eat and sleep, fulfill your only role
Let your problems seep out of your hole

Cataract

Reflections of a bloated lie
A life stored in your cloudy eye
Now it's time to say goodbye

Chase a tail that isn't there
It's time to wipe your butt
Sliding down butt hill

Dahg Rastubfari, do you know
That you're a ******* dog?
And if you can hear me, then throw up
Give me a sign

And I'll throw a stick, bring it back
Roll over and die
You taught me a lesson
Thanks, mom

Do you understand me
Do you think about me when you're peeing?
Do you really think you're gonna grow
Into a human being?

This dog has seen better days

You're gonna die
How does it feel, Stubb?

Do you remember
We called you family?
Now, you're underground
We call you memory

Gone

Not the lyrics to Stubb (A Dub), but

He's Hitler and Swayze and Trump and Travolta. The original song was called Travolta, but I think he got mad and they changed it to Quote Unquote. The Girls Of Porn always made me laugh and My A$$ Is On Fire. The album was totally nuts. Saw Faith No More Once, I think it was the Angel Dust Tour. They were damn good. Mike Patton is a nut.

Don't forget Jim Martin actually wears those glasses. In real life.

He I think had left the band when I saw them, and a roadie took over guitar duties. Wasn't he in one of The Bill And Ted Stupid Adventure movies?

I didn't see the Bill & Ted movies, which is probably for the best, but you're right, I remember he left somewhere around that time. Wasn't he replaced by a roadie who also happened to be in Mr. Bungle?

Could be. I think he was on the Angel Dust album, but left during the tour. I saw them in Hawaii.

My aunt used to raise Shih-Tzus, She's gone now. Lived to like 97.  I did know a gal who I bought my dobermans from who had a champion, Guss. He would get very mad if she left him home alone! I remember taking them home once from someplace to see what he did to their bedroom, Lol.  He crapped all over their bed spread and then spread it all over the walls and furniture and carpet with his nose as to teach them a lesson not to leave him home alone again.  I'd love to hear that one in a song LOl.

Too funny.  Our lab-rottweiler mix tore up a throw pillow first time we left her alone.  Put her in a crate the next several times we left the house and have not had a repeat performance.  Thank God she's never played the turd card.

Nice  CALIFORNIAMAN.  Thanks for posting.  Hadn’t heard this before.

I wrote this years ago after losing one of our dogs.

OLD DOGS
(G) I have a (Am) friend who is (D7) dying.....(C) known him for (D7)12-years or (G) so.
(G) 12-years is a (Am) fraction of (D7) my life, but a (C) lifetime as a (D7) dog's life (G) goes.
(G) We used to (Am) walk in the (D7) evening.  We'd (C) walk for a (D7) mile sometimes (G )more.
Now (G) we barely (Am) leave the (D7) front porch....and he's (C) pulling me (D7)back to the (G) door.
(C) He used to (D7) bark at strange (G) noises and (C) people that (D7) he didn't (G) know.
Now (C) he just (D7) stares into (G) space.  I (C) doubt that he'll (D7) see the next (G) snow.

Chorus......
Yes Lord, (C) old dogs are hard to let (G) go of.  They (C) kind of take root in your (G) soul.
They (C) grow-up inside of your (G) heart....and (D) then you can't let them (G) go.
And (C) Lord, there's just one more (G) thing, (C) that I think you ought to (G) know:
If (C) my old dog ain't up there in (G) heaven, (D) I don't think I want to (G) go.

(G) Trips to the (Am) vet are more (D7) often.  The (C) vet frowns and (D7) says "He's not (G) good."
I might have to (Am) make a de(D7)cision.  (C) Lord, I don"t the (D7) know if I (G)could.
At night I (Am) sit on the (D7) sofa and (C)he rests his (D7)head on my (G) knee.
He stares in(Am)to my (D7)face (C)as if he's trying to (D7)speak to (G)me.
So (C) I look in(D7)to his (G)eyes.  I (C) hear his jaws (D7) squeak when he (G)yawns.
And (C) I know what (D7) he'd like to (G) say, "Who will (C) take care of (D7) you when I'm (G) gone?"

Chorus......
