A thought on "gun control"

Recommended Posts

FIRST OFF, NO RUDENESS, PLAY NICE

Now that that is out of the way, I had a revolation on gun control last night. Guns are meant to do one thing. puncture a target from a distance with great accuracy. The target can be a living creature, a paper target, a clay disk, a hostile enemey, there are lots of potential destinations for a fired round.

Flipping through the channels while strumming a guitar in the early morning, a "gay" TV show was on, I ended up watching it for a little bit, not because I am gay, but as I watched it for a few minutes, one homosexual said "why does it matter what we do, it doesent hurt anyone..............."

Perhaps gun ownership is the same way, As long as YOUR gun doesent hurt anyone, why does it matter that you own it. If you have the right safety training, pay any required taxes on em, and you dont have any outstanding legal or mental restrictions on your ability to use a gun with good judgement, why should you have restrictions on what you can and cant own.

IF YOU OWN A GUN-OR A HUGE PORNO COLLECTION, IT's NONE OF MY BUSSINESS WHAT YOU DO, WHAT ACTIVITES YOU PARTAKE IN!

you got it.

i openly admit i like guns. kinda like guitars- i enjoy the thrill of the hunt, the purchase, the use of and the cleaning of them. i have my permit, and i usually carry when i leave my town.

it is a responsibility. i went out and bought a safe the other day just to store my handguns and all my ammo. i dont have kids, but its just the smart thing to do. i also go to the range regularly so that i am familiar with my weapons.

that being said, i do believe in some common sense laws that are not in place in every state. in indiana, a background check and $125 earns you a lifetime carry permit. no training on the range or in a class required. thats not cool, even to me. i do like "shall issue" states like my own so that any responsible citizen can get one and not be subjected to arbitrary decisions of LEOs.

Brave thread Jesse.

You KNOW what this one's gonna look like.....

It's not gun control, it's people control.

When you can no longer be trusted to act responsibly, measures are introduced by those who know what's best.

I have YET to see who those people would be....

Fenn, securing your weapons is the responsible thing to do.

I commend you.

Ignorance is mostley the reason of all the accidents in gun handeling. Last week a person I had met at my wifes job had her 14 year old son have his face blowen off, when one of his closest friends was showing off a gun his mother had bought for protection. Now the son is dead, the friend is having a hard time copeing and the mom is being charged.

I took my wife and my 10 year old daughter to NRA safety classes. With my father being a lifer in the Army, I learned at an early age of handeling weapons. My mom was a no gun in the house person. So we learned thru different people about safety. The best prevenative in stoping accidents is knowledge, not thinking that if you stick your head in the ground it will go away, You'll find talken to your kids and being stright up is the only way to go. Some of ya'll might find out their a lot smarter then you thought.

Living in Virginia I have the right to own all kinds of weapons. So I have a small collection of rifles and pistols, From Black powder to automatic. Just a look at some of the older ones.

I'm one of those 'Liberals'. I admit it & am proud of it.

That said, I am totally against gun control. As cliched as it sounds I totally believe that gun control only benefits the criminals.

Look at the NY shooter, for instance. New York has some of the toughest gun laws in the country but it didn't prevent the shooter from getting his guns.

One can only wonder 'what if' somebody inside the building would've had a gun. Could several lives have been saved?

People kill people.

No, I don't think we should give convicted felons or certified mentally-ill people gun permits but I strongly encourage everyone else to own at least one.

If you research it, you'll find that there is no more 'gun crime' in states with weak gun laws (like Texas) than there is in states with stringent gun laws.

We have freedom to bear arms in this country to protect us FROM the government. The founding fathers knew what Europe was like when the population wasn't allowed to defend themselves. Soldiers would break into a home, rape the females, and the husband would wake up, working on a ship bound for the colonies.

All people who commit crimes with guns and convicted with conclusive evidence (not just circumstantial) should be executed. We don't need them.

This from an registered as Independent moderate voter.
