Kirk Hammett's favorite version of the Greeny...

The Epiphone..  LOL.  I'm sure Gibson was THRILLED to hear that...

From Guitarist Magazine...

"The Gibson USAs are great," Hammett told Guitarist, "but my favourite version of Greeny is probably the Epiphone… the Epiphone Greenys, just by themselves, sound great and play great, and I was amazed at how I was playing an Epiphone and I didn't want to put it down. It's just on all levels. This was two or three weeks ago [from the time of the interview]. That Epiphone Greeny is now my couch guitar and I reach for it when I'm watching TV, like most guitar players are apt to do."

So all the BS about Mojo and Holy Grail-ness, is just that -  BS?

That Kirk Hammet bloke seems to have more signature guitars than anybody the history of creation.

He wasn't asking me, but Sarge's knows my answer to his question.

And the Greenys ? I suspect that most of them are easier to play than the real one.

Slash gets a new one ever other week or so. That Dave guy from Megadeth has a bunch.

I just saw Dave Grohl (a drummer) got another signature guitar. Its an Epi this time. and its the ES-335 shape with the Trini Lopez headstock.  I don't remember if it had the pointy F-holes or not.  I think it did. I don't see it on the website, but he was seen playing it on stage the other night, and I saw something on the net about it. It looked Minty Green and not Pelham Blue.

Surely Gibson makes more profit on their own sales that Epiphone sales.

I just looked and if the net is telling the truth:

Gibson revenue is $990.0M

Epiphone's revenue is $6.2 Million

WOW...that's astonishing. Epiphone sales wouldn't pay Gibson's light bill.

Some figures from NAAM

  • Gibson: 34% 442
  • Fender: 30% 390
  • Ibanez: 12%
  • Yamaha: 7%
  • Epiphone: 4% 52
  • Other (includes Ovation, PRS, Charvel, ESP, Jackson, Dean, Washburn): 9%

Martin has no sales %. That’s BS.

Epiphone does not buy guitars from Gibson

they are a separate company, build their own guitars, they don’t buy guitars from Gibson

the maximum ; they would pay a licensing fee but would not equal same as GC buying them to sell

Sub-note: I’ve never seen a Greeny ad for an Epiphone, only Gibson 3 versions being flogged, didn’t know it existed till this thread

Yes but Epiphone built 40,857 guitars and Gibson built 105.

105 seems like a bit of an exaggeration. I would have thought like 50 or so?
