I have a Les Paul Studio and a Martin OM-1 acoustic and a Line 6 Spider 3 Amp.

My parents have made it abundantly clear that the only large gear purchases I can make are for an amp and a Gibson SG Standard.

I can however substitute the amp for another guitar.

I can get decent tones from the Line 6, I don't play for any crowds, only in my bedroom, biggest set ever would be for 30-40 at my school's guitar club, and the amp can sufficiently do that.

I can add both an Gibby SG Std and an Epi Casino. Or a tube amp and a SG Std?

What do you think.

I sometimes carry my gear to school for Guitar club and lugging around a 24lb amp doesn't sound fun. ( the Line 6 is like 14 lbs.)

So what do you think, guitar and amp or two guitars?

And since the Epiphone Casino is cheaper than the two of three amps I was looking at, my parents may appreciate me buying that (from my savings) more.

Tough one, especially since you said your current amp is just fine and Line 6 amps are great for home use.

Let's look at it this way...

You already have a very nice LP and Martin.

Both an SG Std (which I happen to want badly too!) and an Epi Casino (want one of those too) would be fine additions to your collection.

A tube amp would be great to have but if you're thinking of something to bring to school... yeah, it's going to be a bit heavy. Even a Blues Jr. weighs in at around 30 lbs.

If you're thinking of going for an amp, I'd go with something that is very low wattage (5w) for home use or something with some horsepower for jamming with friends... which you said you're not doing right now.

If it were me, I'd go for the SG and Casino. A third option is to just hold off on buying anything for now and wait to see if your needs change since you already have some nice gear to use.

At this point, along with a friend also in the club, we are going to start arranging a gig at Hyatt Regency Hotel, nothing yet, its just an idea, possibly two guitarists and a singer, or some arrangement like that. We were thinking of asking a teacher, because she sings amazingly. But the area there isn't too big, it opens out onto the sea, near the ports. Maximum seating is like 30-40, and I can always hook up my gear to the PA there.

And the cheapest tube amp that I liked was the Fender Super Champ xd but even so it is 24lbs! Although I could keep the Line 6 for school. But if I bought another amp and then got through for the gig, I would be playing my LP all night throughout because thats my ONLY electric.

That's not a bad thing. I often play with just one guitar; I usually have two with me but, depending on what I feel like playing, I might not pick up the second one all night. For rehearsals, I've been bringing just my Strat for the past couple of weeks mostly because it's been raining and I have an ordeal where I take my guitar to work, up to the office, down from the office at the end of the day, back into the car, out of the car and into my brother's house, then back to the car, then out again to our rehearsal space then back to the car to go home. So, I'm not all that motivated to bring TWO guitars through all that just to rehearse.

If you're happy with the amp, I'd go with the guitars - the Standard is a nice compliment to the Studio, and the Casino will give you a hollowbody with P-90's. The other option (if they'd do it) would be to get an SG 61 RI instead of the Standard and the Casino. BTW for about $30 you can get a cheap tube preamp (like one of these: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-Tube-MP-Studio-Mic-Preamp?sku=180581), run your guitar through that and then into the Line 6 and get tube sound from the Line 6.

to find out if you can be happier!

Thats true enough, but since he is still a HS student and still having to get permission (or $$$) for his gear, I was suggesting that if he could make it known to his parents that he is willing to forego buying gear for the sake of buying gear now, that it could be worth more in the future, when he wants say a 61 SG Reissue or another historic. I know as a parent, I would appreciate the mature effort.

Fall for the hype!

Buy as many shiny guitars as you can. Even though they are pretty much all alike, and what with the ungodly expensive bridges and pots and stuff - but a good paint job is worth at least a couple of thousand.

You can always buy a decent amp later.

I have to get their permission to get another guitar, they don't mind an amp, because they knew when I bought the Line 6 ( I'm not actually sure why I bought the Line 6) that I would change to another.

Switching the amp for a guitar, because my mom keeps saying I don't need another, I already have one Gibby, but I think she will let me buy myself one other. Two is pushing it, but hey, its worth a shot....I think.

As for foregoing a purchase now for later, I don't mind doing that, but I won't because, later I know I will have other responsibilities, that will needed to be paid for, and I don't want to end up anything near Curtis Adkins Jr.

I would foregore the second guitar though, because I know, that in the end the ultimate semi hollow for me would be an ES 335 dot in VS, or an Ebony 355 with bigsby..yum....lol.

And if I do start gigging (:D ) then I would prefer to have another electric with me.... I don't have to ( duh) but I would prefer it.

Personally I would upgrade the amp.

Casinos have a very specific sound and use, why do you want one?

I own one and the P90s sound great but if you play with gain the feedback is unstoppable.

If you do get one you can bypass the modding thread and will have to make some changes to it to make it useable, just ask cookieman.

It was between a Casino or a Epiphone Lucille, nice semi hollow tone.

The Casino is not a semi-hollow' date=' it is a full hollow body, no centerblock, hence the feedback issue.

Did you consider the Riviera for less money and includes the case and it has a bigsby?

Yea, I know the Casino is full hollow,

The Riviera is nice but, the gold bigsby? yuck. I much prefer the chrome or nickel bigsby.

If I could, I would buy the Riviera and change the bigsby to a trapeze style tailpiece.

And also Stiff, the riviera on music123 does not seem to include the case. I can't order from musiciansfriend because since I am not from the US, they seem to have an issue with the billing address. When I ordered my LP we had to cancel the order a week after because they could not verify the address.
