VBB
Epiphone Studio Les Paul. Don't know what they cost, but they should be worth about that much.
Andre S
Epiphone Studio Les Paul. Don't know what they cost' date=' but they should be worth about that much.[/quote'] Nah, I think you can get a better Epi for that. Do you know what kind of Epi you want? Les Paul? SG? ES-335? But hey, if you buy used, you can get a higher end model. ON music123.com, you can get an Epi Ultra 2 for 479 used, so they should have used standards around your range, or any guitar store should actually. I think DAS44 got a Gibson LP studio for 400ish Have you taken into consideration that you will need an amp?
sellen
Epiphone g 400 sg is a really good guitar, a friend of my got a epip les paul Standard for 300$ on eBay. Great guitar. but its always a danger buy it unseen. There's no best when it comes to Sg and Les Paul. That's up to your ears

gsxrrr
I'd vote for the Epi G400 SG with set neck, but not the bolt on ones.

Sammich18
Look at Rondo Music.com They have excelent copy guitars, that people say are comparable to Gibson, at a fraction of the price. Their highest end Les Paul Knockoff is about $400, and its the same woods as a Les Paul Custom.

max2343
Go with a Ibanez rgt42 used. Look at Guitarcenter.com/used.
intenseiam
I'd go with the G400. Hard rock is around the sounds of acdc and angus uses an sg. it is also good for jazzy stuff but I mean, it is your choice
FinalSalvation
May not work with your type of music, but I have a schecter and love it
Dom_JEM
no one on here will like me for sayin this bit Ibanez GIO guitars are very good starter guitars, good sound, reasonable price i have a GIO... its a cool guitar to just "f**k" around with lol i have 3 other Ibanez guitars, SA Series, JEM and an ibanez acoustic... all very reasonable
rockman82
I'd also go with the G400. It was my first left handed guitar, even though i had been playing guitar for a few years before. I played right handed for 2 and a half years.
rockman82
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Vintage-G-400-Electric-Guitar-102488731-i1150101.gc If you happen to go the G400 route, here's a Vintage G-400 for 299.99 new. Heck, the neck even had binding. I wish standard G-400s had binding on the neck.

milod
I dunno... sounds like an Epi dot or dot studio would be about right for this guy. I think the size also would be of help to a guy turning from acoustic. Heck, deep down that's why I prefer my hollow above all others. m
