Pimping the Casino (MIC-MIK)

I just love my Casino, but lately (since the inspired by Lennon Casino announcement) i've been GASsing for a new Casino,

Since i dont have the money for now, i was wondering how to pimp my Casino.

What you would do? or have done to your Casino?

Change the tuners? Change the pickup? What modification you did or would do?

I don't really want to pimp mine, I love it. But I have been wondering about changing the tuners. A lot of people have complained that the stock ones don't hold their tune very well with any amount of bending. As yet I haven't experienced a problem, but we'll see.

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the bridge too? Could be useful to fit a wider Gotoh bridge or something for better intonation. Again, I don't have any problem with intonation, just curious. I seem to recall that the archtop bridges are not the same as those on solid body guitars.

I put a Gotoh bridge on mine, but the string spacing is wider and the low E string kept popping out. I filed the notch, but later decided to go back to the the original bridge as I didn't have any problems with it.

The stock tuners aren't terrible, but I bought some Gotoh Vintage tuners that I have yet to install.

Had a bone nut installed, that was a very good upgrade over the plastic one.

I'm not sure I'm brave enough to attempt wiring a new jack and switch into a hollowbody! Besides, mine is brand spanking new, no real need to go changing things. I might look into some new tuners though, but I'm not sure what style, vintage oval, Kluson type, imperial, I dunno!

Gold Bigsby B7, Gold Grover Imperials.

I'm on the lookout for Gold pickup covers and I'm gonna upgrade the electronics as well.

My next purchase will be a cherry Casino.

If I were to modify anything, I would replace the tailpiece from a trapeze to a frequensator (like the late 60's Casino's) and replace the volume / tone pots (similar to the picture below).

Would possibly replace the stock pickguard with a black pickguard with white / cream outline.

As far as I know, the Casino never had a frequensator tailpiece, it always had the straight trapeze. The Matsumoku abominations of the 70's (EA-250 and their ilk) sometimes had them, but they also had bolt-on necks, a different body shape, and humbuckers or other goofy pickups, so I don't consider them to be true Casinos as we know them.

Personally I wouldn't do anything at all to alter the sound of my Casinos('65 John Lennon,'08 MIC natural)the only thing I would ever consider doing is changing the tuners and doing the slight esthetic mods to make the natural look more like a Revolution.Changing the sound of a Casino is desecration.

Changing the crappish electronics is nothing like desecration. It's gonna fail on you at some point. Better to put in some USA made stuff before it craps out on a gig. Plus the sound is much better. Same with the pups.

Yep, changing to switchcraft and Gibson USA P90s basically makes it a DIY 65 or Revolution (at least the electronics).

It really does. Those relatively small (and reasonable) upgrades take the guitar into a realm far greater than the actual cost. How many times can you say that about something?

Slap a Bigsby on that mofo and you're talkin' money baby.

Since I got it used, it already came with the Bigsby and the black witchhats. Got the black pickguard from pickguards.us and the E badge from the 'bay. Swapped the Kluson-styles with Grovers I cannibalized from my Epi LP. Replaced the bridge with a roller, switched out the switch (original was too loose in the middle position) and put in out-of-phase and series push-pulls in the tone knobs a la Jimmy Page. Lastly, put in Dunlop straplocks.

You're almost to what I want with mine.
