Red 333
Call me crazy Red but I actually am starting to lust for one of those Zoot Suit SG's!! GASP!! I used to hate them but now..... I want either the Orange and black one or the Natural and Black one. They are not that expensive either! I vote for the orange and black--I like the extra contrast. I can see the attraction of the Zoot Suit: it's like one of those see through watches, where you can see all the gears working and how it's made. Normally, we guitar players are always trying to figure out what the manufacturer is hiding from us--if the wood is laminated, if there is a scarf joint, if there is a veneer, etc. The Zoot Suit wears its highly unusual construction proudly on its sleeve. Svet
Cheap????No way man' date=' that thing is $1200. That is WAY too much money for a plywood guitar. Now cheap was my Gibson SG Special faded. I think I got it out the door for $500, and its a real SG, with a one piece mahogany body. After slapping some 57 classics in it I basically have the sound and playability of a standard for half the price. Minus a little high gloss and trap inlays and binding of course.[/quote'] LOL, my dealer is selling them for 899 so I think it's a good deal! I dunno why but I'm infatuated with this guitar! Hi Red, I like the Orange one better too but my dealer doesn't have one of those in stock!
Xaj
Svet, I am utterly disgusted with your collection, mate. How about pictures of every single one of your ladies? Seriously, this is guitar porn at its worst! I am so disgusted right now you wouldn't believe OK, this is all envy, I admit it I wish I could have only a few of your collection... or Red's for that matter. If you are really looking into buying something special (and the SG Zoot Suit looks cool), how about the L5? Since it is the one you want, now is the time

midiman56
As long as we're on the subject of SG's, I've always had a soft (hard?) spot for one of these: I just love the look of that guitar. It plays and sounds great too! Personally, I am about 95% sure I am going to pull the trigger on this Fender Jaguar HH this weekend: I've been messing with it for weeks now and every time I play it, I get happier and happier ... must be love! [/quote'] ........or the Gibson SG '61 which has the '57 classics in it rather than the 490R/498T pickups of the Standard. I also have a Gibby SG faded and agree that it's a great value guitar. I can't decide whether the thinner nitro finish makes it sound even more snappy/attacky than a full nitro SG. I like the sound anyway and do actually like the stock 490R/490T pups, certainly in comparison to having a 498T. You're lucky to have a one piece body. Mine has a two piece body and I think even that is by no means a given on a standard. Alan
pohatu771
I think part of the problem with Gibson's marketing of the Zoot Suit SG is that they used the multi-coloured version as the model. Any of the two-colour options are much more appealing. I'm a little glad that no one seems to like them - someday I'll get a great deal on one. Svet
My dealer is telling me that they are one offs and they will not be producing anymore of the Zoot Suits. If this is true there is the possibility of these being somewhat collectable.
Xaj
I was just checking Gibson's website and they have a few things that are US (well, Guitar Center) only. And some are just Japan only exclusive guitars. I did like the look on Tak Matsumoto's new signature model from Epiphone, but I have to admit I like this Gibson Les Paul Studio and this Gibson Les Paul Doublecut. With your collection, though, it certainly isn't easy. I should be getting one like this, this evening, but it is a Portuguese Guitar.

I went to a local Guitar center today, and they had three on display: two that were red (or maybe orange) and black, and one that was red and blue. All three were very nice, and seemed set up just fine. They are much cooler looking in person. The red and blue, in particular, was really something. Go for the Gusto, Svet. No one will say your new SG is anything but unique! Red

Kong
How 'bout an ES-359. I love the look of this thing, I have a 339 and it is very versatile and sounds beautiful, but the one I GAS for is the ES-359. The 359 sure looks gorgeous with and ebony fretboard, block inlays and the AAA flame maple top.
