It could be great sounding, easy to play, etc, etc.....however, I just don't play it......strange......any others out there have similar experiences? I currently have a 1969 clear plexiglass Dan Armstrong that I haven't played in years. It's the third Dan Armstrong that I have had, and I guess I've grown out of my oddball guitar phase. If I have a "reason" to pick it up, I tend to stick with it, but if not, I can go a week or more without playing. It's not that I'm bored....just have other things to get done. I think I was really bored with myself, but anyway...I took up banjo, mandolin and fiddle over the last 40 years and now when I am bored with one I play another. I never get bored of all of them at once and my musicianship has greatly benefited from having all those different ways to play. damian Posted October 25, 2010 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Yes, I get bored playing just one guitar. That's why I own more guitars than I can count. It keeps it interesting. Of course, when I record, there are certain guitars I'll favor, but I also record with more guitars than I can count. It is also convenient, as I keep a pleathora of guitars in different tunings, so many that I have to label them. He who dies with the most guitars wins. Kinda like those of you who rotate through your collection, this guitar for a while, then that one. Now and then for some odd reason a guitar just stops being interesting and never comes back. That one gets sold to make way for another. Don't understand why that happens other than to say tastes change. JG's comment is right on: we're the music, guitars are the tools. Now I'm down to a J-45TV, L-50, Weber Mandolin & KoAloha Ukulele. Oh and a F.J. Pfretschner fiddle that I wouldn't say I'm bored with - just intimidated by. jefleppard Posted October 25, 2010 Share Posted October 25, 2010 my knee-jerk reaction to this was to say "no, if i dont like them, i dont buy them." and that if you bought the right one, you shouldn't get sick of it. but that isn't always the case. there are alot of factors here - some are embarrassing to admit. i get sick of electrics after a time if/when my ear changes and i get tired of a pickup combination. same thing with amps. i get sick of acoustics when i see something else i want. i will tell myself the old guitar sucks and i should seek out a model thats newer, shinier, nicer smelling etc. little games i play with myself. i guess if i did alot of trade on ebay and was buying stuff unheard, then i could see getting sick of an item or just outright not liking it from the start. really, i think wanderlust is to blame for most of it. i am a confessed gearhead but there's always a voice in the back of my head telling me i don't really need more than one electric, one acoustic and one amp. but then what? i dont like shopping for shoes or clothes. i don't bowl, volunteer at churches, drink, smoke, do drugs, download copious amounts of porn, browse personals, make picture frames with pinecones, wear women's clothing (outdoors), eat spam, watch nascar/pro wrestling/reality tv or work on cars. this is my hobby. so thats that. sure i dont need it, but i want it. mostly it keeps a bottle out of my hand. this seemed like such an easy question to answer until i started thinking about it. nice. thanks for getting me thinking, owf. It seems ideal when you're playing it at the store, but after you get it home, something is not there that you thought was. I was at that point with my Koa Gibby Songwriter after a year, and I sold it about ten days ago. Awesome guitar, but I just found myself playing everything but that guitar. The guy who bought it is a minister and will use it for his church. I tried to explain to him that in reality Taylors are God's chosen "church guitars," but he insisted, so what could I do?.......Ran into a very similar problem with a Breedlove last year. Beautiful instrument, but after I got it I just wouldn't play it. Took it to some gigs, but wouldn't touch it after I got home. Always find myself going to my HD28, "bird," or J150. My Garrison G40 also gets alot of time. Always has. I think we all have our favorites. Sometimes it's the expensive guitars and sometimes it's not. They are tools and I ain't so sure anyone has improved much on them since the late 1930s. kystrummer Posted October 30, 2010 Share Posted October 30, 2010 I've had the same thing happen to me. Had a Martin HD-28 for about 2 years. Really loved it at first. But after a while I couldn't get the same satisfaction from it. Sold it and got a mahogany J-45. Been happy with the Gibson for over 2 years.
