  1. I really loved that song. (got me interested in scotch AND guitars !) Funny how that group - the original Kingston Trio - shared back and forth popular hits with artists from other genres: Pete Seeger (Where Have All the Flowers Gone, Frank Sinatra (It Was A Very Good Year), Beach Boys (Sloop John B.) They had a wide range of songs, from this one, to pure folk like Tom Dullah to Scarlet Ribbons and, of course, who could forget "The MTA". A political ''protest' song. Hope you find the chords. From the video - looks like they're past my Cowboy Chord repertoire.
  2. Good Song, Well Played. Loved it. Thanks TPB - Merry Christmas to you !
  3. Our metal window frames are coated with ice. Inside the house, from condensation.
  4. ZW, Yep, that is what I was referring to - not the inlay - I know there are several out there (I have a J45 with a fleur de lis type of inlay which was designed by Ren back in the day). I was referring to the unusual shape or profile of the headstock - it is not the 'open book' or 'two humps' shape of the wood itself. Thought I read once that the headstock shape was viewed by Gibson as something 'protect' from being copied by those trying to create knock-offs. Picture is small - hard to tell. But, like I wrote - in my limited knowledge base - I've never seen one like that.
  5. I agree - I've never seen a headstock like that on a Gibson acoustic.
  6. Agree. “Something FISHY this way comes.”
  7. Very nice - all round ! Enjoyed the mando break. BTW, I think it's illegal to shoot at deer, even if you miss.
  8. Minty fresh - Great Find ! From all the reviews, these out of production guitars are really good. Very Gibson-esque in looks and tone. But Torrified Top ? Can't believe everything you see on the Internet: When I got my SJ-200, the store told me they took it in a trade from a Minister who only played it on Sundays. Smelled like cigarettes, whiskey and wild, wild women. (you probably shouldn't believe that last bit.)
  9. When your friend dies, owing money and his only 'asset' is an over the top guitar less than 1% of the population would be interested in buying, his kids will have to deal with his bad choices. Probably sell the guitar for half its value to someone on this forum. Dibs.
  10. Yeah. Those plastic frets didn't hold up too well. I think, after the 100th time I asked my mother to get the pick out of the sound hole. the guitar had an accident.
  11. It sounds like you've had a chance to play it and know you want this particular model. It's not an impulse buy. You're not a newbie. If you DON'T get it - something may come up, like a car repair bill, a root canal, a new girlfriend, etc. and you might never be at this point again. I can't imagine not having my SJ200. No way I miss the money. Didn't miss it from the moment I wrote the check.
  12. It would be irresponsible for him to spend that much on a high end anything - guitar, watch, computer, etc. He has champagne taste and a beer budget. Needs to be happy with an Epiphone and set a good example for his kids.
  13. The 'Hummingbird Pro' is not really a Hummingbird. It has long neck as I recall. I think they stopped making them around the same time the 'baked top' was introduced at Bozeman, so like the 2 previous replies - I doubt it would have had one. I'd post a question on the YouTube Video for the person making that claim to deal with.
  14. Use to string them with barbed wire. I see you took yours off !!
  15. That was the one ! I had vague memories of that chord thingy - but didn't mention it. Because I wasn't sure I had one, seen one, or dreamed one. That photo could fit in nicely on the "You Know You're Getting Old" thread. "When you only had one pick and it was made of felt."
  16. Yep. I don't think I bought a complete set of strings until I was in my 30s. One at a time, only when 'they' broke: the usual suspect the E1 !
  17. You could make a living doing that ! Outstanding !
  18. Think I had that guitar. Plastic., ukulele sized. I think mine only had 4 stings. Got rid of it when it was down to 2. Black Diamond didn't make replacement strings. Seriously though - the problem I've had with padded leather straps - they always have a seam - a sewn border around the edges where there is no padding. So, the edge of the strap, which tends to be where it digs into that spot between your neck and shoulder - has zero padding. 2" or 3" wide - doesn't matter - if the edge isn't soft of padded, that is where you will feel it. Some good suggestions here though, I'm sure you'll find something. Fortunately, in this day and age, we can order on line and return just as easily. Let us know how your search progresses. This could become the Official "What Is The Best Strap?" Thread !!! Although I mentioned 2 others I actually do own - my vote would be for Dave F's link - braided Franklin, because I have the banjo version and it works well with an 11 lb. banjo. And, ordered one from Santa for guitar. Not padded, per se, but a bit of elasticity which absorbs and distributes the weight. G'Luck !
  19. Lars, Sgt.Pepper is just yanking your chain. Nothing he writes here should be taken seriously, at least that's what he's written here. Wait ... !
  20. Nostalgia ! Even on our forum. This is great. You seem to get better each Christmas somehow !
  21. Yep. That's what I use to clean off the gunk on the bare wood. I let it dry real good before putting on the conditioner.
  22. Yep. MBAs have given MBAs a bad name, that's for sure. Almost as bad a reputation now as Bass Players.
  23. You would have to modify your wardrobe when performing with it. But, it isn't as bad as the fluorescent green J45s, or the professionally relic'ed guitars we've seen. If I somehow found it under my Christmas tree - I would be super happy. But I'd swap out that PG before New Year's Eve.
  24. Really great - sounds like the way that song was meant to be played. LG2 looks and sounds stellar ! Welcome Back Kotter !
  25. Yep. But that’s why coconut oil works. It won’t go rancid.
