  1. That's a big loss, Bernie was a character who was impossible to dislike. RIP Bernie
  2. I suppose that's one option. I did try reversing the magnet on one of my guitars a while ago but I was never quite satisfied with how that went, the videos I've seen of the Greeny guitars sound far better, but of course, you're relying on other variables with that. I've previously always been a bit dubious about changing pickups because you really don't know how it's going to sound until you've actually done it.
  3. Soldering's not a problem, I spent a short time teaching Electronics, but thanks for the advice ๐Ÿ™‚ I am torn between the Gibson pickups and a chap here in the UK called Alan Dingwall who makes some that get pretty good reviews by people with experience of the real guitar: Spiritual Home | Spirit Pickups There's also Bare Knuckles who do an out-of-phase humbucker which the late Gary Moore used once he'd had to sell Greeny: Designed to replicate the tones of Peter Green's famous '59 Les Paul complete with legendary out-of-phase tones Designed to replicate the tones of Peter Green's famous '59 Les Paul complete with legendary out-of-phase tones | Bare Knuckle Pickups Quite a competitive niche market I think.
  4. Interesting development in the Gibson Pickup Shop, I see they are starting to sell the "Greeny" humbucker. I was waiting for more stock of the Greeny Les Paul to arrive in the U.K, but now I'll get some of those pickups and fit them into a previously unloved 2014 Les Paul Traditional that's been lying in its case from new, and I think I'll have a better Greeny than the ones they are selling. I've never changed pickups in a guitar before so this could be an interesting experience.
  5. It's raining here and has been most of the summer, so that's a real bummer.
  6. I'm not really much of a fan of the Stones, everything they've done since the 70's is pretty average to me, but should they carry on? If they still enjoy it and people keep turning up why not, it's better than sitting in a care home waiting to die.
  7. Apparently the Rolling Stones are set to release a new album: The Rolling Stones sneak cryptic teaser ad for new album in local London newspaper | The Rolling Stones | The Guardian
  8. I was never impressed with any of those bands and I could take or leave the whole Brit-pop thing, it bores me rigid.
  9. Welcome back Pippy ๐Ÿ™‚
  10. I'm sure AI will have many benefits for Mankind but as with anything, when it gets into the wrong people's hands (which is inevitable) it will become a liability. As regards messing with an artist's work as in this example it's very dangerous, not so much for people frequenting these forums but young people. If you tell a lie often enough it soon becomes the accepted truth.
  11. Thanks you everyone. I'm surprised by how resonating it is, it's really starting to open up. My only previous Fender is a Mexican Player Strat and there's no comparison with this one. I always viewed Fender's as just a couple of bits of wood bolted together, but not any longer.
  12. I'm really concerned about the use of AI corrupting the integrity of an artist's work. Once you've let the AI genie out of the box you'll diminish Human creativity to a point where nothing is real, anyone sitting at a keyboard can be the next Leonardo Da Vinci or Mozart. Regarding this "John Lennon" YouTube clip, the Man's dead and has been for forty-plus years, is it not better to enjoy what he created and not make things up on his behalf?
  13. I have been looking for the opportunity to try one of the Fender American Vintage II 1961 Stratocaster's out, but here in the U.K they are like Hens Teeth, but I found a store in York that had 3 White ones and a Sunburst one but when I got there it turns out that the Sunburst one was at their store in Sweden, but I wasn't going that far to look at it๐Ÿ™‚ Well I tried the White ones and you know how it is, one thing followed another and the thing followed me home (but I only went to look!)
  14. With The Sex Pistols Never Mind The Bullocks, I think the clue is in the name, that's exactly what it was ๐Ÿ˜„ Sparquelito, I also saw Split Enz but I never really thought of them as a punk band and they didn't sound anything like how they did when they started to have some success, as I recall, they were dressed and made up like clowns and even did one song playing the spoons. I found it a rather strange experience.
  15. Sadly it seems John Gosling, the keyboard player for the Kinks has passed away: 'A great musician and a great man': Tributes paid as The Kinks keyboard player dies (msn.com) RIP John
  16. My, we are a cynical bunch, aren't we ๐Ÿ™‚ I think the workplace environment is a little different here in the U.K, most people here work to live not live to work. Most of the people I used to work with got along just fine, there was never any competitiveness for promotion, whenever the job for head of the department came up it just seemed to go to the next in line, and they generally seemed to get it a few years before their retirement in order to boost their pension. I do periodically go for lunch with 4 fellow retirees and that's always a laugh. My wife calls them "The Last of the Summer Wine" events (Last of the Summer Wine was a long-running British TV comedy about 4 or 5 old blokes wandering around a Yorkshire village causing mischief".
  17. They could have mine for that ๐Ÿ™‚
  18. What gave it away ๐Ÿ˜„ Yes in the UK it's called a barbeque or a barbie.
  19. Absolutely correct, but the thing I struggle with in regard to changing the pickups is that it really is a leap in the dark, you've no idea how they will sound on your guitar until you've handed over a lot of money and fitted them and once you've done that, you're stuck with them, you can't send them back if they're not what you were looking for. And as Chris has pointed out, most people underestimate how much influence the amp has on your tone, it's easily half of the equation.
  20. Well, you'll get no help here to cure your addiction, only encouragement, this is an addicts paradise ๐Ÿ˜„
