  1. I agree totally with what Murph says, things have to be looked at from the perspective of their era, and you need to appreciate that before all those early artists, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Budy Holly, Eddie Cochran etc, there was nothing to call Rock'n'Roll, they were working on a blank canvas, every artist that followed just picked up the Batton and took it forward. It's easy for our generation to take this music for granted because, to us, it's always been there. Everyone who follows owes the people who went before gratitude for creating the genre. As a side note, how recent are the artists that you mention, I'd guess you are talking about songs that are maybe 30-40 years old! Sadly I'm of the opinion that Rock'n'Roll has now stagnated, there's little, if any innovation going on now.
  2. Buy from one of the UK stores, Thoman or Gear4Music.
  3. The flat front RS's were either the RS Mexico (1600) or the RS1800, a very rare and temperamental beast.
  4. Yes Farns, I agree with your brother on this. PS, Ford Venetian red is a good RS Escort colour.
  5. The biggest this inflation is caused by central banks printing money, it's a fool's solution to any economic problem, you only need to look at what happened to Germany during the 1930's when people needed a wheelbarrow full of money in order to buy a loaf of bread, the consequence being the rise of the Nazi party. I fear we could be headed down the same route, history has a habit of repeating itself. You can't decide that your country is short of money, so okay, let's print some more! all that does is devalue any money people have in their pockets and push up prices. So the point is, it's the Government's and central bank's fault you have to pay more for your Gibson.
  6. Interesting video regarding Peter Green's guitar setup by Dave Simpson. Dave seems a little on the eccentric side but he really does get deep into his subject:
  7. Mark 2 for the 1.6 Sport and the RS's, though I did drive my brother's Mk 1 Escort 1300 Sport for a while. Another interesting car I had in between the 1.6 Sport and the RS's was a Vauxhall Chevette HS which was a bit of a rarity even back then, but it cost so much to run that it had to go (I was still a teenager at the time), so I went back to Ford.
  8. Takes me back to my youth, my first 'hot' Escort was a 1600 Sport followed by a couple of RS2000's, great fun cars 👍
  9. I saw it on TV here in the UK and couldn't believe my eyes. A truly monstrous depraved act. I hope their 70 virgins turn out to be old hags, hence the reason why their still virgins.
  10. I bought The Best of Spooky Tooth as a teenager when I saw it in a record shop and liked the cover! When I got it home, there was no side 2, just two side one's. I liked side one so much I imminently took it back to the shop for exchange. One of my mates told me that a 'misprinted' album like that would be worth a fortune, I'm not so sure about that, and anyway I wanted to hear side two. RIP Gary
  11. Thw wait gives you something to look forward too, and it will be all the sweeter when it does arrive. I hope it becomes a friend for life 👍
  12. Marco, I don't have a car that would qualify for entry into the Mille Miglia, The nearest that I do have is a Morgan but as Morgan never entered the Mille Miglia that doesn't count, I nearly go to spectate.
  13. Hi Marco, how are things in Milan, great city, and a beautiful Duomo I've had the pleasure of stopping there a few times on my way to the Mille Miglia.
  14. Yes, all very true. There's always the risk of sounding like your Dad, who in my case was a Jazz drummer. The only time he showed any interest in 'modern' music was if Ginger Baker or John Bonham were on TV, he'd come out of his office, watch, and nod (which I took for approval) then walk back when they'd finished.
  15. After the Rolling Stones thread seemed to get turned into a discussion about music from different era's, I thought the subject deserved a thread of its own. In the current musical climate, there doesn't seem to be anyone breaking new ground, there are no Kate Bush or Peter Gabriel's experimenting. The pop World seems to be filled with Femail singers who all sing in the same style, it's difficult to tell one from another. Given that a large proportion of the music in the charts is written by a just handful of faceless people, to a large extent that's not really surprising. Recently a stall opened at my local, twice-weekly market selling second-hand vinyl, CD's and even cassette tapes, so naturally I ended up talking to the stall holder about the state of dire modern pop music. He told me that I'd be amazed at the number of young people who come looking for 'old' music, he said he'd even had kids searching for Olivia Newton John records and yes that did amaze me. Listening to middle-aged people talking about concerts by people like Pink, I've noticed that they never mention the music only the show.
  16. I remember seeing an article about Bernie's book release where he was knocking on doors & personally delivering them to addresses within reasonable travelling distance from him, he was quite a bloke. RIP
  17. Thanks for the suggestion, but the guitar has traditional wiring so that's not an option.
  18. I specifically wanted a 2014 Traditional because of the 59 Tribute pickups, I was lucky in that my favourite Gibson dealer had 5 new ones in stock, despite it being 2015 at the time. It's a little ironic that I'm thinking of changing the pickups on a guitar that I bought because of the pickups. The guitar has lain in its case almost from new because the month after I got it I bought an R8, so, in essence, I've got a brand new 9-year-old guitar, which is a bit sad because it's a beauty
  19. There's an interesting Andertons video demonstrating Montey's pickups out-of-phase humbuckers and "The Captain" adds some drive when demonstrating the middle position and I thought that was a wee bit sly, at 12.42:
  20. That's a big loss, Bernie was a character who was impossible to dislike. RIP Bernie
  21. I suppose that's one option. I did try reversing the magnet on one of my guitars a while ago but I was never quite satisfied with how that went, the videos I've seen of the Greeny guitars sound far better, but of course, you're relying on other variables with that. I've previously always been a bit dubious about changing pickups because you really don't know how it's going to sound until you've actually done it.
