  1. In reality, I've had it for a couple of weeks, It's a Supro Delta King 8 and I took it to the band rehearsal last night and wow, with the boost switch turned on it sounds incredible. I had to buy a used one because here in the UK they are like Hen's teeth, I couldn't find a new one but the one I did get is in mint condition. I like it so much I'm seriously considering selling my Blues Junior and getting one of the larger Supros. It's only one watt but it was more than powerful enough for band practice (we don't have a live drummer) but sadly I don't think it's powerful enough for gigs. I love the simplicity of it, just a volume, tone, master volume and the aforementioned boost button. This is the second one-watt amp I've bought, the other was a Marshall DLS1C (it's a weight thing having to carry it into the Church hall where we practice) but that was truly awful, if you turned up the gain it sounded like a swarm of angry Bees.
  2. I found this website if it's any help: How to Spot a Fake Gibson Les Paul - Gear Talk
  3. The old guitar market is a bit of a strange one to me. A friend of mine is considering buying a 2000 Gibson SG which, if you are being kind, you could describe as road-worn, however for the price being asked you could easily buy a brand-new one. I don't get it, the guitar is not "vintage", to me it's just old and battered.
  4. Jdgm's recommendation should get you in the right ballpark, after that use your ears. Throbak pickups also do a very good guide on YouTube that's well worth a look:
  5. Sorry to hear that, I was lucky enough to see them just before the pandemic. There must be a great band reunion going on up there. RIP Gary
  6. The problem is all the western nations' wealth is built on debt, both personal and national and it's unsustainable, someday someone's going to have to pay for it. Here in the U.K for example, the price people are paying for pretty modest housing is eye-watering, people are taking mortgages that will run into their 70's, everyone's driving around in new and expensive cars and the truth of the matter is that people are living beyond their means.
  7. Mark, thank you for your kind words and yes there are some great and knowledgeable members on this forum who will always help you out. Regarding amps, assuming you're going to be playing at home or small gigs you can't go wrong with something like a Fender Blues Junior: Blues Junior™ Lacquered Tweed | Guitar Amplifiers (fender.com) but there are others for example Delta King 12 - Supro USA or Delta King 10 - Supro USA if you want something a bit smaller. It largely depends on how much money you want to spend and how loud you want it to be. I'd certainly go for a tube amp but if you did decide you wanted solid state the Boss Katana is very popular BOSS - KATANA-50 MkII | Guitar Amplifier but, if you did go with a solid state amp I suspect it will only be a matter of time before you want a tube amp. Before you choose an amp it's worthwhile trying them out in a shop with your own guitar before deciding and worth posting on here for more opinions before parting with your cash. Good luck, I'm sure your going to love your 335 and it'll become a life long friend.
  8. I'm waiting at home for a new (used) amp to be delivered. Not overly optimistic that it will arrive today which is its due day because the carrier it's coming with has an amazing reputation (for losing things!).
  9. I looked at the 59 Burst, but decided to pass on it because it's not Murphy aged🙂
  10. BBC Scotland regularly has a section where amateur photographers post their pictures, most of which are pretty good. This week the Northern Lights have been visible across most of the UK and Scotland's photographers didn't disappoint: In pictures: A second night of the Northern Lights - BBC News
  11. Mark, you have every right to purchase a 335, life's too short not to, go for it🙂
  12. I've put covers on my Les Paul Classic Antique, not soldered, just pushed on they make a perfect snug fit you don't even have to take the pickup out and you only need to pull them off to return the guitar back to original spec.
  13. The big issue with this is how the polepiece is set on pickups without covers because they are set level with the top of the pickup as default. If you've ever fitted covers to uncovered pickups you'll find there a long way short of being level with the covers.
  14. Fascinating & amusing article from one of the British newspapers about an artefact found at the Roman fort of Vindolanda in Northern England in 1992. It seems the object is catalogued as a darning needle. It strikes me that whoever catalogued it either has a sense of humour or made a terrible choice of career 😁 It’s not a darning tool, it’s a very naughty toy: Roman dildo found | Archaeology | The Guardian It made me laugh.
  15. I've got one, it's a first-rate case, the best I've ever had.
  16. I once read an article about Yairi guitars (made in Japan and mostly classical) where they leave completed guitars hung in a room playing music to them, apparently to make the wood understand it was now a guitar!
  17. I've just checked them out, they even have a Custom Shop! I wonder if they'll do you a Murphy aged pick🙂
  18. Yes Doug, I normally listen to Blues or music derived from it, but this bloke's great.
  19. I've been listening to this Islandic chap, it's not the sort of music that I would normally listen to, but I do thing he's interesting.
  20. No, it's a bit fiddly but no difficult getting them on or off.
  21. I use the "washers" from Grolsch beer bottles, the beer's awful but one has to make sacrifices.
  22. Yes Dub, I was expecting some volume difference but not as much as I actually finished up with. I never tried using it in a live scenario because I think getting the levels & tone right would have been just to much of a juggling act as I don't use any pedals.
  23. After trying reversing the magnet in the neck pickup but not reversing the pickup itself (so that it appeared as normal) I found the out of phase sound to be a little half hearted, so I reversed the pickup (as per Peter Green's). The effect was dramatic to say the least, the neck pickup became super loud because of the placement of the poll pieces I'm guessing, so I had to screw down the neck pickup and raise the bridge one. That had the desired effect but I still didn't sound like Peter Green, I can't think why☺️ The problems that I had with this mod, is when using the middle out of phase position it was a great deal quieter than when using individual pickups and as I wanted to use the out of phase sound for lead work, setting the levels for band practice just became a massive juggling act. I've now reverted the guitar back to it's original set-up.
  24. I guess I'm kind of lucky in this respect, my Wife has bought me a Gibson J15 (because she thought it sounded the best acoustic in Gibson's Memphis showroom) and an R8 (because I was born in 1958).
